maccio92··on Intel Tock-Ticks Chipsets Back to 22nm
It's not, they've fallen all the way back to 22nm while AMD is at 7nm, while maintaining healthy production capabilities of current process nodes. And that's not even taking into account the fact that AMD architected an objectively better processor
maccio92··on Walmart Requires Lettuce, Spinach Suppliers to Join Blockchain
> Digital signing of data

When you get to the heart of things, that's all blockchain is anyway. The "blockchain" part really just describes how it's organized - in a signed chain

maccio92··on Walmart Requires Lettuce, Spinach Suppliers to Join Blockchain
Decentralization is critical to cryptocurrencies, but that's just one use case on top of an entire blockchain ecosystem. Not all blockchains need to be decentralized, and not all blockchains are cryptocurrencies.

This specific instance grants assurance that neither Walmart or anyone in-between is tampering with the database.

maccio92··on Ask HN: What are the most interesting emerging fields in computer science?
It's an unfortunate characteristic of many that conflate cryptocurrency and blockchain as one and the same inseparable idea. Cryptocurrency is only one application of one type of blockchain.

maccio92··on Intel CEO resigns after relationship with employee
That's why AMD innovated on a new CPU design, because what we've been using doesn't cut it anymore. Look at their CCX architecture and infinity fabric
maccio92··on Intel CEO resigns after relationship with employee
Have you looked at the price and performance for AMD's threadripper and epyc series? I agree that we're nearing the end of shrinking process nodes, but their architecture is incredibly innovative

maccio92··on Hair Ice
There is - the material is silicon and related materials and all those things you mentioned are built with and made possible by advancements in silicon technologies. There's an IBM article on the front of this very site detailing how they are creating artificial neutrals from silicon for AI. I would argue the period we're in now will be referred to as the Silicon Age.

maccio92··on Defensive programming framework for .NET Framework
exception - something excepted; an instance or case not conforming to the general rule.

An invalid argument parameter is certainly an exception. Human readable exceptions are a much better solution than the alternatives, such as return codes or returning null. What other solution would you propose? The only thing that could improve this even more is if the parameter named itself were visible, i.e. "buffer cannot be null" rather than "Value cannot be null"
