lxglv··on Darkbloom – Private inference on idle Macs
then you are talking about low spend, not low income
lxglv··on Darkbloom – Private inference on idle Macs
weird to learn that they do not generate inference requests to their network themselves to motivate early adopters at least to host their inference software
lxglv··on Nokia N900 Necromancy
That's not a Necromancy, that's rather a Dr. Frankenstein's creature.
lxglv··on Ask HN: What is the most useless project you have worked on?
there was a whole thread on the topic: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37911900

I would also encourage that, to be honest. Maybe you learned something, maybe built some relations, maybe made a mental exercise and became a better person.

lxglv··on Instagram starts offering subscription for not showing ads for EU users
I did not have perception, that Youtube’s Premium offering drives people off.

For me it was the default option once it appeared, because it allows not get bothered and get the content I came for instead of ads coming each five minutes in some really greedy edits.

Interesting take, thank you.

lxglv··on AWS Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow
Running something on Kubernetes does not make this something highly available. It makes this something randomly restarting.
lxglv··on Russia lifts ban on Telegram
Or it may mean, that they decided to stop budgeting effort that led to almost zero result. RossTelekomNadzor was banning IP-ranges from the main cloud providers, that resulted in major outages of other services (that were not multi-clod) except Telegram.

People, who used Telegram did not stop using it since the very first day of official ban.

lxglv··on Russia lifts ban on Telegram
This should be a top comment in each Telegram privacy-related post or thread. Everyone is ok, that Google may read their e-mails and has full access to search details, Facebook might read their messages, 3-rd party ad-companies profile them through pixels, but at the same time start complaining, that FSB may read their Telegram messages (not proven btw).
lxglv··on Reasons Why Job Seekers Are Not Given Feedback
Sure, there may be, and you will have proofs that it exists and may find a way, how to handle it.
lxglv··on VxWorks now with C++17 and Rust support, alongside Ada and SPARK
Another thing that I'm really surprised about is the salary range for the C++ developers with RTOS experience. In case we compare this with frontend React developers, then difference will be more than 50% (React guys will be paid more). According to my understanding C++ development for projects that require RTOS is much more demanding in terms of skill and corresponding experience. I would also assume that there are much less developers with VxWorks experience: within my region I may find around 40 people with VxWorks in their CV on the job board against 1000 developers with React experience. I really hardly get the economics of the modern IT job market.
lxglv··on Tell HN: Stripe brought my business to a dead stop
Actually, posting here from a fresh account allows to reach a quite broad audience with over-generalized warnings for ALL small businesses to take care while dealing with Stripe. The story lacks details, names timing and etc., although most of the commenters immediately believe the OP and start blaming Stripe’s support line and support processes in IT industry in general (problems exist, sure). It may be rather considered as opportunity, that someone from Stripe offers help in such situation with description that looks like blaming and crying that Stripe is EEEVIL instead of searching for advice, how to solve the problem.
lxglv··on Cloud Filestore, high-performance file storage for GCP users
thank you
lxglv··on Cloud Filestore, high-performance file storage for GCP users
who are “the Greys”?
lxglv··on I Stop Celebrities from Blowing Their Money
I would suppose, that’s not the essential functionality reuirement, rather an ad tracking one.
lxglv··on Reverse Engineering WhatsApp Web
Out of curiosity: I’ve noticed a long-term sceptical attitude to telegram in HN audience and have seen multiple arguments against it. Something like that their crypto can’t be trusted, that it’s not time-proven. Don’t you know any good source with some sort of domain expert explanation, why shouldn’t it be used or trusted? No intention to start any flame against Signal, only curiosity regarding telegram flaws. Personal point of view is also appreciated.
lxglv··on Drones that can plant 100k trees a day
There was a discussion almost 3 years ago regarding drones, that are able to plant 36K trees per day. There was also a reference to the 1970s planting machines, that are much simple in mechanical design and are able to plant 10-20K trees per hour. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9444521
lxglv··on A Beginner´s Guide to Getting Things Done
Personally I used the same approach to start running: “just lace the shoes”. After you finish this, you are almost running.
