LLM derived AGI is possible but LLM by itself is not the answer. The problem I see right now is that because there’s so much money at stake, we’ve effectively spread out core talent across many organizations. It used to be Google and maybe Meta. We need a critical mass of talent (think Manhattan Project). It doesn't help that the Chinese pulled a lot of talent back home because a big chunk of early successes and innovations came from those people that we, the US, alienated.
Great job on this btw. I don’t mean to take away anything from your work. I’ve also toyed with AI H2H quite a bit for my personal needs. It’s actually a challenging task because you have to have a good understanding of the models you’re plugging in.
It’s incredibly expensive to produce at LEGO’s tolerance levels. No manufacturer would do it unless you can sell it at such a high margin which, to my knowledge, is basically LEGO and certain high precision aeronautic parts makers.
When I was into LEGO a few years back, I noticed there were a lot of bulk items available in Eastern Europe. I always wondered if they were either counterfeits or just grey. I couldn’t distinguish them so I just assumed they were grey because these items were not available in bulk directly from LEGO via bricks and pieces. When LEGO bought bricklink I thought they were going after fake vendors.
Nvidia owns a piece of OAI, and now Nvidia would own a piece of AMD. I am just waiting for Samsung type of circular ownership structures here in the US.
It has everything to do with it considering where things are with current admin. Also why do you think people are sacrificing so much to study in the US? It’s mostly funded. They even get stipends. We are basically paying them to get their degrees here. But you seem to think that they’re doing us a huge favor. What an odd way to think about it.
I know this is controversial but there are so many foreign students in the PhD programs across the country. Some programs actually favor non-US students. Some professors quite explicitly pick their own race despite that being highly illegal. I think higher ed in the US became a major scam.
Even if energy needs inevitably come down these guys will continue to force energy use purely driven by financial obligations. It’s the dumbest thing since subprime. We’re already seeing shades of this with Nvidia. They’re giving away their GPUs in exchange for paper to keep people on this path. But energy is not free. It’s finite.
Crime is basically your way of cheating the probabilities. If everyone is playing by the rules and you don’t, you basically made your odds better. I am not saying this is right. I am just saying this is why people deviate and commit crimes though crimes are also committed for different reasons.
We are definitely closer to the top in this market. Do people even realize what they’re predicting in terms of energy use? It’s going to be a wasteland territory sooner than people think.
I used to order things from amazon.co.jp to avoid this issue until the clowns stopped de minimis. Amazon quality varies greatly across the globe. The worst, in my experience, is amazon.de. Quality really plummeted since the pandemic. I consistently received used products from them and this led me to think it’s a cultural thing in Europe where people routinely use products and simply return them after use.
It’s not just safety. It’s also the costs. You have to print them in climate controlled environment which can get expensive. Print them looking “fine” is not the same as printing them to specification of these materials. And you print ABS/PC/Nylon for functional needs.
I would not print PC/Nylon/ABS at home. It’s really hard to make it work especially during colder months. Work with PLA to get the shape and order it online when you’re ready for advanced materials. I would also recommend HP MJF for nylons.
