lutze··on Wozniak Says `Lot of Things Wrong’ With Jobs Movie [video]
If Woz had a little more Jobs in him, he'd have told Jobs to go fuck himself when he sold Woz's work to Atari and paid him a fraction of the money.

There would be no Apple.

lutze··on NSA pays £100m in secret funding for GCHQ
Look at it from the other way too.

A foreign agency is secretly funnelling money into an institution that's supposed to be looking after my (as a UK citizen) interests.

I think it's well past time this incestuous charade was exposed.

lutze··on The History of Ctrl + Alt + Delete
I'm stuck in a cycle of continuously rediscovering this, then forgetting it again almost immediately because CTRL+ALT+DEL is so damned ingrained.
lutze··on Doug Engelbart was unable to find funding for his work
See: Woz and Jobs.
lutze··on Russia may deem civil servants’ use of Gmail, Facebook ‘high treason’
See this? This is part of the problem, stop being so stereotypically blinkered.

The rest of the world doesn't care if the US government is spying on its own citizens. The US government is ACCOUNTABLE to its own citizens (well nominally, but hey...), so if they don't like it they're in a position to do something about it.

As a none US citizen, I care that the US government is spying on ME, unilaterally and without any accountability.

This is what the rest of the world cares about. Stop pissing away what little sympathy you have by moaning like a spoiled child about the bad shit your government is doing to YOU, and open your fucking eyes to what it's doing to EVERYONE ELSE.

lutze··on All major UK ISPs prepping network-level porn 'n' violence filters
Children shouldn't be using the internet unsupervised, full stop.
lutze··on “Warning” signs at historical sites tell visitors to relax and enjoy themselves
This is remarkable, I initially thought you'd typo'd your typo and had to do a double take to spot it.

Isn't the brain a wonderful and scary thing.

lutze··on Erdogan says social media 'danger to society'
"There is now a menace called the printing press. The best examples of lies can be found there. To me, movable type is the worst menace to society." -- some fucking Pope or other.
lutze··on Jack Vance, in memoriam: 1916 - 2013
Gone to the great Rumfuddle in the sky. RIP.

96 isn't a bad innings all told.

lutze··on Eleven people across UK arrested for racist comments on Twitter
Yeah, this article's blinkered, hyperbolic and frankly smug tone is pretty amusing when you take things like the above into context.

He even sticks a "literally Hitler!" on the end for good measure.

lutze··on Teen's invention could charge your phone in 20 seconds
Not an expert, but from what I understand it's a trade off. Super-capacitors hold much less charge than batteries.

There was a very interesting article about them on HN last year IIRC.

lutze··on How To Use Social Media To Effectively Destroy Your Business
There's no such thing as bad publicity!

Wrong.

lutze··on Sydney tunnel water screen stop sign for oversized vehicles [video]
It's also easy to not see stuff when you're blind drunk.

Both of these things are illegal, it's no excuse.

lutze··on 'The IT Crowd' to return for finale special
It's not just better writing though, it's the difference between laughing with and laughing at.

BBT isn't just "not funny", it's actually rather obnoxious.

lutze··on 'The IT Crowd' to return for finale special
Is it bad that I can still recite that number from heart?

Rhetorical question, of course it isn't!

lutze··on My customer wants me to record a video of how I develop his software product
Just write a script that outputs "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" for 40 hours, see how that tickles him.
lutze··on China Cyberspies Outwit U.S. Stealing Military Secrets
'“When it comes to cyber security QinetiQ couldn’t grab their ass with both hands, so it cracks me up that they won,” Bob Slapnik, vice president at HBGary'

I love the smell of irony in the morning.

lutze··on SpaceX Grasshopper Flies High
Good answer, thanks.

I've been playing too much Kerbal Space Program, I assumed the first stage had already reached orbital velocity.

lutze··on SpaceX Grasshopper Flies High
Right, excellent.

Except the first stage doesn't run out of propellant does it, because it has to LAND again. Hence my puzzlement.

I know why multi-stage rockets are used... I'm asking why this rocket needs them, since they solve a problem it doesn't have by design.

lutze··on SpaceX Grasshopper Flies High
I don't understand the need for the intermediary stages, couldn't the main rocket just deliver the payload and then land?

As it is in that video, it's having to carry engines and fuel for 3 separate stages, for no apparent reason.

lutze··on Gearbox acquires Homeworld
It owes much more to Master of Orion and its sequel, with its races and customizable ship design. Homeworld's main innovation was the fully 3D battlefield, Stardrive is entirely 2D (not even psuedo 3D).

Not that that's a bad thing. The art is gorgeous and it has a great sense of humour. Worth a punt if you're even remotely a 4x fan IMO.

lutze··on Crytek: Graphics Are “60% Of The Game”
I thought Minecraft's inspiration was Infiniminer?
lutze··on Founders: You don't own your employees
Given the context of the blog (free time), it's only natural to assume you were talking about that too, since you don't explicitly state otherwise.

I'm perfectly relaxed by the way. I swore for emphasis, not out of emotional engagement.

lutze··on Founders: You don't own your employees
"First, telling someone what they should and shouldn’t do in their free time is a tremendous insult to them and their personal judgment. It’s also incredibly short-sighted."

Read that. Twice. Now, add these words of pearly wisdom to the end: "It's also none of your fucking business."

It's their time, not yours. If your employees aren't giving you 100% at work, you've every right to complain. But it's absolutely none of your business what they do outside of work.

lutze··on Work Hard and Play Just Enough
"But there’s different classes of success."

Two tips for life:

Never ever let anyone else define what success means to you.

Never be arrogant enough to attempt to define what success means for other people.

lutze··on IRS claims it can read your e-mail without a warrant
It wouldn't surprise me if various enforcement agencies viewed encryption as sufficiently suspicious behaviour to arrest/investigate you for some kind of "terrorism" charge anyway.
lutze··on The Minecraft Creator Markus Persson Faces Life After Fame
Yeah sorry, should have made that clear.
lutze··on The Minecraft Creator Markus Persson Faces Life After Fame
The claim is that it's less accessible for children, not that we have less freedom.
lutze··on Hacking strength: Gaining muscle with least resistance
I agree, but then neither will the program described in the blog. If your goal is just to get leaner, fitter and healthier you're better off playing a sport IMO.
lutze··on Hacking strength: Gaining muscle with least resistance
Some of this is terrible advice.

You want strength, you do high weight, low rep sets of compound barbell lifts.

Dumbbells are a body-building tool, not a strength building one.

Press machines are horrid horrid horrid. At best they don't target the important stabilizing muscles that compound lifts are supposed to. At worst they can pull your movements into unnatural ranges of motion, causing lasting damage to your joints.

If you have no one to spot you, buy a power rack. It'll work out cheaper, and you'll be better off.

Honestly though, the best way to get in shape is not to MAKE yourself exercise, it's to find something that you ENJOY and do that. Judo, BJJ, boxing, squash, tennis, football, badminton... join a sports club, have fun, and you won't even notice yourself getting fitter.
