lunfard000··on I lost everything that made me love my job through Midjourney
not only art, Obsidian is using already for voices[0]. The future is here.

lunfard000··on How big should a programming language be?
man I use C++ on personal projects for opencv (and python perfomance is pretty bad for my use case) but oh god, I don't I could ever get a C++ job, there is a universe of features I won't dare to touch anytime soon. I just use the "modern" and simple stuff and code look pretty good (imo), don't have to deal with gibberish compiler errors (except when std::format goes crazy). std::move is cool though, rvalue and lvalue is bit too much but the performance, clear "giving up" resource and dont having to use pointers is worth it (I just use it for rvalue passing, prob there is more to it).
lunfard000··on Bob Metcalfe wins Turing Award
You are may actually be right, sorry, my rant may have been misguided. "networking standard" doesnt make it free of royalties though, dont/didn't companies pay to use the Wifi protocol?
lunfard000··on Bob Metcalfe wins Turing Award
Sure, years ago. But today Ethernet is just as scammy as everyone else, we've been stuck at 1 Gbps on consumer grade hardware for more than 15 years. There are claims (unverified ofc) about their executives boasting about their stupid margins. 1 Gb switch is like 10-20 euros meanwhile 2.5 Gbps is like over 100...

would you mind sharing the go and python results running on your machine too? It is apples to orange comparation otherwise.

lunfard000··on AI is making it easier to create more noise, when all I want is good search
I started to do some cpp development again and google is just giving me wrong/outdated solutions or just unanswered question from SO, while ChatGPT is on point most of the times.
lunfard000··on AI is making it easier to create more noise, when all I want is good search
Websites are seo-ing Reddit now (shit things like: Top ten airfryer recommended by Reddit), so appending reddit is not enough anymore. In a very close future we are going to have to type the whole site:reddit.com.
lunfard000··on New cognitive skills in the age of AI tailored information
since /r/confidentlyincorrect exists, I propose to call them ci-claims :D
lunfard000··on Databricks counts being laid off as “red flag”
would it? Best case you would last 2-3 months if you are doing nothing, and you dont have to put in your cv.
lunfard000··on Show HN: ELI5 Powered by GPT-3
Tried "binary search" and looks like is stuck now (it just keeps refreshing).
lunfard000··on A command line tool that draw plots on the terminal
one use case that I can think of is for monitoring something. Let's see you have tmux open fullscreen, working in one of the panes and have an auto-updating graph at one of the corners to check the value of your stocks (?).
lunfard000··on Minikube now supports rootless podman driver for running Kubernetes
CLI is not my issue, k3s and kind wont work with podman (or any rootless container for the matter) out of the box, in both you need to do some non-trivial cgroups configuration on the OS to make it work (in k3s this mode is experimental)
lunfard000··on Minikube now supports rootless podman driver for running Kubernetes
I wish distros would stop making "docker" an alias for "podman", they are not the same thing and breaks all light-k8s implementations.(looking at you redhat)
lunfard000··on Algorithms could increasingly influence human culture
I cant use Instagram app anymore, combining ads and "because you watched ping you may like this pong" videos 30-40% content is irrelevant.
lunfard000··on SoftBank's Sale of Arm to Nvidia Collapses, Arm to IPO
wasn't OpenCL a mess even on AMD cards and isnt it almost deprecated?* And Nvidia's OpenGL drivers on windows are way better than AMD's. I dont like Nvidia especially after all the error 43 bullshit, but they are competent. Now ARM is going public, wont that make things even worse?

lunfard000··on SoftBank's Sale of Arm to Nvidia Collapses, Arm to IPO
Money? like Samsung selling their chips to Apple. Nvidia have a lot of proprietary stuff which allows them to get away even with inferior hardware. Nvidia will prob lose the AI datacenter market anyways, customs asics will just use RISC-V if Nvidia try to stop them.
lunfard000··on SoftBank's Sale of Arm to Nvidia Collapses, Arm to IPO
I didn't like much this but having ARM in the hands of financial institution which doesn't have any motivation to invest in the technology doesn't seem any better (and probably doesnt understand/doesnt care about it). In the other hand, Nvidia have a good track record creating good products.
lunfard000··on Microsoft to Acquire Activision Blizzard
MS dont care you buying their console, barely make a dollar out of it. It is all about gamepass
lunfard000··on FreeFileSync: Open-Source File Synchronization and Backup
I dont see the benefits tbh, as much as people here dislike them, a web interface would be better than its own desktop application in order to manage your homelab backups from different computers.

Also, the "Donation" edition is smelly, just be honest and call it "Pro" version to give consumer rights to the buyer.

lunfard000··on Raspberry Pi holds its own against low-cost ARM NAS
I mean, at the very least you always need a charger and a sd card, the barebone price is kinda misleading
lunfard000··on Raspberry Pi holds its own against low-cost ARM NAS
idk, maybe you get it a bit cheaper if you look around. This is from a offical store though: https://www.raspberrystore.nl/PrestaShop/complete-sets/245-r...
lunfard000··on Raspberry Pi holds its own against low-cost ARM NAS
Raspberry is not really cheap anymore. The start package (rp4 4gb + charger + sd + ethernet/hdmi cables) is 100 euros in my country.

Meanwhile you can get a GK3V mini pc on Aliexpress with a j4125, 8gb LPDDR4 and 256GB SSD for 180 euros, which probably has 3x-4x the performance of the pi.

lunfard000··on Linux Has Grown into a Viable PC Gaming Platform and the Steam Stats Prove It
I dont think they will, nothing prevents Apple pulling the same b.s than ms.
lunfard000··on Chrome users beware: Manifest v3 is deceitful and threatening
It will be interesting what Microsoft will do, at first glance they don't care about advertisement and allowing ad-block would bring a lot of users to their ecosystem. (they already have soft adblock out of the box)
lunfard000··on Tips on adding JSON output to your CLI app
come to the powershell-side, we have ConvertFrom-Json
lunfard000··on Apache Guacamole
have you tried fullscreen mode? At least on vscode-server some shortcuts only work on that mode (probably using the browser Fullscreen API?)
lunfard000··on AWS Private 5G
best thing is that you dont own the antenna, so Amz will prob rent out the remaining capacity.
lunfard000··on Remote work will break the US monopoly on global talent
maybe because people on those countries are not idiots and they know they will be paid better if they move to northen countries?
lunfard000··on A Visual Guide to React Rendering
hooks are amazing, wtf
lunfard000··on A Visual Guide to React Rendering
It is like questioning about backend using a spring boot in every single service even when it is only for a simple store and fetch json from mongoDB. If you have the know-how, why not? Jumping between Vanilla and React projects can be counterproductive. If things get more complex you are prepared, if not, nobody will mind.
