Hell yes, I also started to tweak my XFCE arch desktop to my liking.

Anything I want different now, I just tell the LLM to do it for me.

(For example I can now close lots of windows of the same type with 1 click, not 3, my whisker search now finds files and folders and I am able to run games that refused before)

I still ocasionally run into the usual linux driver issues, but not for much longer I suppose. I probably could fix some driver bugs now already if I point fable towards it and pay some attention.

In theory I could do all this before myself, but not just like that in some minutes, but in days/weeks/months ..

That would be still impressive, even though more distributed among the AI builders and all those nameless code contributers etc.

Do you like working with dry walls? I don't. I can do it, but I ain't born for handywork.
lukan··on The last time my family was replaced by technology
"as a big FU to the megacorps"

Where is the satisfaction in that?

If you jump from a bridge, all it does, is that relatives of yours will receive the bill for cleaning up the blood and remains (on top of funeral etc).

"unless you're targeting a career that requires, or expects, a degree."

Unfortunately most well paying jobs do.

lukan··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
"If I pretend to be angry that it didn’t search the web it would however do it."

You have to pretend to be angry in such situations?

Have you tried fable? (I did small experiements and was satisfied, but maybe there are reasons to switch?)

I want to get rid of whatsapp. Well, since years, but now the need increased.

On android it is possible to give permissions "once" "while using the app" "always".

But whatsapp now only accepts the full camera access. If you set "ask every time" to indeed only make a picture once and then no camera access anymore, it refuses and sends you to the permission dialoge.

lukan··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
Yeah, there even is this old archaic rule from the bible/torah/quran, "eye for an eye" that is usually considered barbaric and outdated. But here they go by 35:1 ratio.

Targeting military - yes, under certain conditions.

Targeting civilian homes and a festival - nothing legitimate about that.

lukan··on You Are No Longer Invited to Dinner
It depends who you invite. I organized a lot of parties in my youth with some that escalated and that burned me a bit. Now I am very reluctant to organize something and have not done so in a while, but when I do and it works, it is amazing. Helping bringing people together. Connecting, having a good time and people feel grateful for it.

Now with the great late summer, it would be a great time for something like this again, but I just did not felt the energy, but also am a bit sad now to not just make something happen.

" If we compare it with pelicans that are still not-perfect…"

Fable 5.1 was pretty good. Even animating it:

lukan··on 12,000-year-old Göbeklitepe burials explain scattered bones
"I’m glad that they’re all proven wrong now."

Where exactly did you see that proof?

"The new study points to a different process for much of the assemblage." "The match offers an explanation for why the fragments appear so widely scattered."

This is the language in use here. We are talking about bones that were buried 12 000 years ago, got chewed partially by rodents, crushed by earth pressure and moved around with the soil. So no indication that there was human sacrifice, but also no definite proof otherwise.

" Because there are plenty people who drink a bottle of white, red and/or rose for lunch here their entire lives."

No one doubts that, but statistics are pretty clear, that those who do not do that, have a longer life.

lukan··on When did Google get so weird?
No worries, when the police and judges use the same bad AI to verify those claims as well, all is fine. 2 bugs cancel each other out and all that ..
lukan··on Prompting Claude Opus 5.5
In my experience that tactic works well if the codebase is limited in size, or well maintained and separated. Otherwise I do notice a difference also letting fable do the execution, not just the planning for complex tasks.
lukan··on When did Google get so weird?
Hm, I also done extensive traveling, but would agree to the "most people are lonely" statement.

Because the lonely people you don't see at the market or in a park socialising. They are at home, in front of the TV or now their smartphone.

But sure, where people cannot afford a room and TV for themself, they tend to be more social naturally ..

lukan··on When did Google get so weird?
The scary (or funny) part is people use that for serious questions.
lukan··on Ask HN: Who's still keeping a DOS machine up because the business depends on it?
"Had they used the modern western technology" ... "Next time educate yourself with facts before making a fool out of yourself"

But you are aware that this thread is about a reactor in the west, that "updated" their certified hardware to a VM instead running on windows NT?

lukan··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
So where exactly did I wrote anything like that?

"your idea that people use them for no reason"

I definitely know my reasons why I still use google despite knowing they don't care about me. That does not change the complaint.

Except we read here stories of ad customers - their main buisness - here indicating they don't give a shit about them either.

They are just so big, they can afford not giving a shit at all.

It seems like it. My agents do real work and the code works.
lukan··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
No, no confession of anything.

In a democratic society, the default should be, the military just buy somewhere else, then force companies to build them the terminator. So no private company controls what the military does, they just control their product. You want the military to control private companies? There is a name for that kind of system, where this is conmon.

lukan··on Browsers situationship: When browsers agree but the spec doesn't
It is like power works since probably forever.
lukan··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
Supply chain risks are usually when someone does a attack over the supply chain. Like when the mossad planted literally explosives in radio devices for Hezbollah.

Antrophic merely said they don't allow their tools to be used for autonomous killing.

A very specific case.

So where is the danger making it necessary preventing all suppliers from using Claude at all? That only concerns those who work directly on autonomous killing and only they will have to go to Altman or Musk.

So none of that is any threat to the military - so it was just black mailing to make them do the governments will - which is something usually dictatorships do, not democratic systems.

But then don't do anything money related with it or use any important account details.
