luipugs··on Pi 1.0
Stage a coup to usurp your boss.
luipugs··on Commit description as a thinking tool
I suspect there's a prompt one can add to improve the consumption of commit messages for humans, just that the default one is pretty bad. Kind of similar to the AI generated posters a few weeks back: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49764791.
luipugs··on BYD Slashes Price of Electric Car and Becomes Cheapest in Australia [video]
$500,000? That's just the price for the garage.
luipugs··on Minimal Phone 2
Aren't long nails difficult for anything that requires finger dexterity, like in touch screen phones?

Also the parent comment reminded me of this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VjpcLplkMUs

luipugs··on Don't be the out of touch Kung Fu master
Need to get the budget for those tokens somewhere.
luipugs··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
> makes a hacker news post from an 11 year old account

> jumps through a lot of inconvenient hoops to "anonymously" publish code

Something doesn't add up there.

luipugs··on Actively exploited sandbox RCE in all Chromium versions
Stop giving them ideas.
luipugs··on Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber
Because intent supposes will which supposes consciousness, and these aren't.
luipugs··on I like 'em thick: an apology to my English teachers
You could say it is asstounding.
luipugs··on Engineers will do anything to avoid learning from history
Can you share some details of the workflows that work for you?
luipugs··on Critical Minerals: Reducing U.S. import reliance with substitution and recycling
The Ukraine war was far from the start of things. Wars were still happening in other parts of the world long before that.

As a wise man once said, we didn't start the fire. It was always burning since the world's been turning.

luipugs··on Advertise in ChatGPT
Please don't give the ad industry any more ideas. Paying for ads? That wasn't in my tech dystopia bingo card.
luipugs··on Goodbye, and Thanks for All the Bikesheds
I would have assumed code reviews would have sussed out those issues earlier in the cycle?
luipugs··on The human-in-the-loop is tired
There is no art without process though. The art is the process. Is an automatic piano more beautiful than a world class pianist? Of course not.

I am not strictly equating this to coding though. Like the GP sometimes I am driven more by the product than by being able to make it by hand. But that does not mean vibe coding, I still make sure the code is up to my standards.

luipugs··on I also filed the corners off my MacBook
My very first mobile was a Bosch. I had no idea they even made phones. I wanted a Nokia though, but I was able to get that later.
luipugs··on Show HN: One More Letter
kiters = kiteboarders. Welcome to Australia, the country where the words are made up and meanings don't matter.
luipugs··on Woman in Brazil enslaved for 55 years by 3 generations of the same family
Did they also eventually win their freedom like in the article?
luipugs··on Apple sues OpenAI, accuses ex-employees of stealing trade secrets
I swear, some people are too quick to be offended or just can't recognize sarcasm.
luipugs··on Superpowers 6
It's harnesses all the way down.
luipugs··on We all depend on open source. We will defend it together
Interestingly no Apple. *edit: Or any non-American companies for that matter .
luipugs··on Hey, n00b, we didn't hire you to complete tasks
> It makes less sense in an era when tenure is better measured in months than years.

If a person's tenure in companies is measured in months then they're signalling they're a C by your logic, or is at least raising a red flag to whoever's hiring. I may be showing my age but that sounds wild to me if that's the norm now.

luipugs··on Fable Converted Pylint to Rust
Your best result is not even an order of magnitude faster, while this repo is claiming on average almost 2 orders of magnitude faster. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence sort of thing.
luipugs··on A robot is sprinting towards you. Do you want it running on Claude or Grok?
"if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree" yada yada
luipugs··on DOJ claims xAI's gas turbines are a matter of 'national and energy security'

luipugs··on Ask HN: Has anyone replaced Claude/GPT with a local model for daily coding?
I'm not getting it. OP said they are wary of letting the agent make choices for them, and outsourcing those choices lessens their understanding of them. They could interrogate the agent on why those choices were made until they have sufficient understanding, and they can also change the solution if they want to.
luipugs··on Ask HN: Has anyone replaced Claude/GPT with a local model for daily coding?
Don't you read through all the output of the agent before committing them?
luipugs··on It's hard to justify buying a Framework 12
Same. If not for the required hardware refresh in our company I would have used it until it broke.
luipugs··on We should get rid of average CPU utilization
Or just don't put CPU limits: https://home.robusta.dev/blog/stop-using-cpu-limits
luipugs··on AI is breaking two vulnerability cultures
If the diff will just be fed to LLMs regardless then what is easier is probably a moot point.
luipugs··on Local Stack Archived their GitHub repo and requires an account to run
Are you arguing that copyleft is not open source?
