luigi23··on “Your frustration is the product”
so much easier to collect your data and having their app on your screen is extremely valuable
luigi23··on Porsche sold more electrified cars in Europe in 2025 than pure gas-powered cars
yes, because when cars were bad and chinese brands were cheap, it was virtuous to pinpoint human rights vs 'chinese cars are yucky and i want to look cool'.

luigi23··on Handy – Free open source speech-to-text app
it's trash if:

- you're not a native speaker or have accent

- using airpods mic

- surroundings is noisy

- use novel words like 'claude code'

- mumble a bit

luigi23··on Code is cheap now, but software isn't
you won't get clicks and you can't build brand with it. sad but true.
luigi23··on Google Opal
I dont think so. They also triggered SEO race where businesses pump out same bland blogposts to optimize ranking. Content made by humans for those companies was the only viable way at that time, and now new synthetic method emerges - whatever generates revenue will win. AI reels and tiktoks get views, so why bother with human generated content after the training on models have been done? Sad but true.
luigi23··on Icons in Menus Everywhere – Send Help
yearning for old apple and order, current times and genz are more chaotic. not sure if it's generational, old apple was obsessed about design, now HIG is mostly optional. they now even use hamburger on websites which was a big no in the past.
luigi23··on The effect of H-1B quota on employment and selection of foreign-born labor (2018)
this is the thing that is missed often in recent convos. h1b not only enables you to hire cheaper, but also give much bigger leverage and power over worker. maybe now there are plenty of candidates on the market, but still having immigrant on visa for cheaper is, cynically, much better deal for corps.
luigi23··on Niantic plans a “Large Geospatial Model” trained on Pokémon Go player data
Was here before comment got removed!
luigi23··on Former President Trump is projected to win the presidency
Grover Cleveland would like a word
luigi23··on Show HN: Bullshit Remover
Just so I understand: you’re talking about setting up an FTP account, using curlftpfs, and SVN/CVS for Linux users? And even with all these, you’d still need USB drives for connectivity issues? Plus, you're naming it Dropbox? Is there more?
luigi23··on The data on extreme human ageing is rotten from the inside out
selection bias. also survival of the fittest.
luigi23··on Web scraping with GPT-4o: powerful but expensive
Got it, but why is it booming now and often it’s a showcase of llm model? Is there some secret market/ usecase for it?
luigi23··on Web scraping with GPT-4o: powerful but expensive
Why are scrapers so popular nowadays?

Strawman comment
luigi23··on Procreate's anti-AI pledge attracts praise from digital creatives
its quite cynical, dont you think. you can benefit in both - morally and in business.
luigi23··on Differences in cancer rates among adults born between 1920 and 1990
no, they just mentioned it because they're aware of that but cannot control it and might affect the end result. makes sense - it used to be underdiagnosed and now with bigger push for prevention this might introduce more false positives.
luigi23··on An AI bot-war destroyed the online job market
But I don’t think this is something groundbreaking isn’t it? Similar to dating apps, when the pool is enormous It’s very cheap to keep the options open. With the automation and growing value of the personal data, everyone should keep that in mind when applying for a job. Also, I suspect there is a reason but the responders are too lazy or are too ashamed to provide it. My wild guess would be, as cited as before: this position has been allocated but it almost cost nothing to keep it open to farm data and to keep perception that the business is growing.
luigi23··on Apple Intelligence for iPhone, iPad, and Mac
it's about 15 having 2x more powerful neural engine
luigi23··on Show HN: gpudeploy.com – "Airbnb" for GPUs
very few cared about linux. it was mostly hd-dvd (later dvd) vs blu-ray.
luigi23··on Show HN: See your current Spotify song in the menu bar
They dont care if you want it or not. Spotify also doesnt provide shortcuts on ios, so its all planned. They want to farm real user actions and engagements, not applescripts.
luigi23··on How to Start Google
your mileage may vary, meaning that point from the essay doesn't apply uniformly
luigi23··on Show HN: Oration (iOS) turns pdfs into audiobooks
unfortunately it has to be finnicky, otherwise it'd cannibalize audiobooks apps (amazon got angry recently)
luigi23··on Why software engineers like woodworking (2021)
Some of my friends just started getting into it, but their reasons are a bit different. They're moving to new places and saw how pricey furniture can be, so they thought, "Why not make it ourselves?" Plus, it's a nice break from the usual desk job stuff. It's hands-on and feels like you're really making something useful, not just another software project , its all about getting physical.
luigi23··on Meta disbanded its Responsible AI team
When moneys out and theres a fire going on (at openai), its the best moment to close departments that were solely for virtue signaling :/
luigi23··on Sam Altman tweet after being fired
i just want to dump my thoughts on internet and indicate that im on the go. orthography adds extra layer of complexity and its already pretty tough for me to force myself to write aynwhere. adhd things. but yeah, its boomer artifact.
luigi23··on What does and doesn't matter about Apple shooting their October event on iPhone
because HN is predominantly american and most use iphones
luigi23··on Rust or Machine Learning: Which New Skill to Prioritize for Job Market Edge

luigi23··on United Airlines plans to board passengers with window seats first
this will give priority to economy class
luigi23··on Write more "useless" software
It wasnt useless, it was their way of telling ‘not suitable for average user because they can lock themselves in and were gonna take the heat’
luigi23··on 10 years with Hayao Miyazaki [video]
recommend ost from their anime for anyone looking for background music while working. Ghibli music has this serene and inspiring vibe which helps me stay focused: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGl75kurxok&t=724s
