lucidrains··on React Native v0.4
thanks for organizing the meetup! I attended and it was great, will definitely attend the next one
lucidrains··on React Native is now open source
I know what I'm doing this weekend!
lucidrains··on ECMAScript 6
Me too! I love Coffeescript, so glad we can finally build things with ecmascript 6!

lucidrains··on An Open Letter to Jessica Livingston About YC's Female Founders Conference
So much talk for so very little. Can we not just celebrate women in tech? We all share this world for a limited time, so who gives a fuck who wears a shinier hat. Its all a game, a game that moves our world towards a better place, a world where we can put down our hats and spend time with each other and allow our benevolent machines to take care of us.
lucidrains··on Residents in faster places tend to report feeling somewhat happier
Coming from a wealthy family, can tell you this is the truth.
lucidrains··on If money doesn't make you happy, you probably aren't spending it right (2010) [pdf]
Family first... unless if your family is that wealthy, materialistic, dysfunctional, and soulless like mine (and yes, they were unhappy, for those curious, not that anyone would change anyone's stance towards money anyways).

After growing up in that environment, I knew money wasn't the answer. Instead, I placed my happiness in learning, helping others, and doing what I believed in. Couldn't be happier now!

lucidrains··on Electronic Medical Records, Built For Efficiency, Often Backfire
There is a great chapter in the book "Hacking Healthcare" that addresses the challenges met with writing software that bests paper. I have linked it below for any software engineers interested in this problem space!

lucidrains··on CoffeeScript 1.8 released
All of my projects have been in Coffeescript since 3 years ago (over 100k lines of code). Have had almost little to no problems. Like you, feel 10x more productive when I'm using it!
lucidrains··on PicnicHealth (YC S14) Stores Your Medical Records In One Place
Yes! I am also quite excited for FHIR!
lucidrains··on Ask HN: What next? Seeking ideas for my next project
Hey entropy, would love to meetup and talk ideas. I too am a full-stack engineer in SF. Are you free today?
lucidrains··on We are in an age of “refactoring.”
ok, but if you share your apartment, you'd want it to be clean for the sake of your roommates right? if you use your car to pick up a date, you'd want it to be clean and presentable so she'd have a place to sit... it's the same idea with code.
lucidrains··on Second-Chance Med School
not really, after a couple successful demos to UMich (we knew the doctors that wanted this software), they put us in their pipelines for procurement, and that was 6 months ago! we periodically poll them to see where we are in the bureaucracy, but they keep giving us vague answers. selling to hospitals suck dude, that's what i've realized.

I am working on another medical idea at the moment, a crowdsourced medical expert system. I hope to unveil it on HN by the end of the summer!

lucidrains··on Second-Chance Med School
If there are any software engineers around the bay area who is thinking of going into medicine, please come talk to me first. Would be happy to share my experiences as someone who left after getting the degree.
lucidrains··on Why I don’t eat on Mondays
Good for you! Health is wealth!
lucidrains··on How a mathematician constructed a decision tree to solve a medical problem
Thanks Rob! Would love for you to participate and help me iterate once I release a prototype in a week or two. I have a colleague at Weill Cornell who may help test drive the system as well. Got your email in my notebook!
lucidrains··on How a mathematician constructed a decision tree to solve a medical problem
This is really interesting, do you have a link to the article?
lucidrains··on How a mathematician constructed a decision tree to solve a medical problem
Yes, it will be open sourced! I want to show engineers just how inanely dumb some of the algorithms in medicine are, and how (I believe) we can start creating publicly usable algorithms to pipe knowledge to the consumers once they get access to a bunch of data from consumer medical devices. Lofty goals, but I will attempt to execute on the idea!
lucidrains··on How a mathematician constructed a decision tree to solve a medical problem
We should get in touch, I've started translating Mycin into CoffeeScript, with the hopes of creating a crowdsourced medical expert system within the summer.
lucidrains··on How a mathematician constructed a decision tree to solve a medical problem
Yeah man, the emperor totally has no clothes. Unfortunately the entire field is insulated from disruption until we can get clinical data into the consumer's hands.
lucidrains··on How a mathematician constructed a decision tree to solve a medical problem
There is really nothing too intriguing about 'clinical reasoning'. Diagnosis is simply a collection of crude algorithms, some decision tree based, some are rule based, other's a crude criteria or point based system (poor mans Bayesian). I'm in the process of building a web app on this theme, so get in contact if you are interested!
lucidrains··on Elixir v0.14.0
Has anyone used Elixir in production yet?
lucidrains··on How can an introvert Asian engineer like me make friends?
If you are in San Francisco, come meet me, I'll be your friend ;)
lucidrains··on Show HN: Dominus – Multiplayer browser strategy game made with Meteor
Where did you hear it is not production ready? I heard it was well funded north of 10 million?
lucidrains··on Show HN: Dominus – Multiplayer browser strategy game made with Meteor
Having some experience with creating html5/js multiplayer online games (https://epicmafia.com), I'm eager to see if the Meteor stack is able to scale for this type of application...
lucidrains··on FDA launches openFDA to provide easy access to valuable FDA public data
Ok. This is actually pretty surprising and welcomed news!
lucidrains··on Introducing Socket.io 1.0
I've since switched to SockJS for all of my projects (after struggling with memory issues in Socket.io 0.9.*). Any compelling reasons to give Socket.io another try?
