longtermd··on Ask HN: Ways to generate income when you're at home without pay?
UpWork, Fiverr, ...
longtermd··on What Color Is Your Function? (2015)
I love the idea of coloring functions based on how "heavy" they are on the CPU or how long they take to execute on an "average client desktop/mobile browser".
longtermd··on Tiny websites are great
I love the original thinking in this post. If there was no React/Angular/VueJS, how would YOU design ANY system to help you code faster and more maintainable? That what I'd love to see: more original ideas to solve complex tasks, and not stopping at the first idea coming to mind.

BTW: I believe tailwindcss is fantastic at achieving and helping with the OP's frustration.

longtermd··on Do not Draw a Penis
You should collaborate with https://skribbl.io/ -- they probably have the largest scribbling dataset in the world, and have it labelled correctly + "how many % people do actually recognize this THING as what it is meant to be, as drawn by another being?" It's hard to think of any better dataset.
longtermd··on WinUI – The modern native UI platform of Windows
I don't even see any screenshots of WinUI there. Is there an obvious link anywhere with tons of screenshots of how it actually looks like?
longtermd··on Ask HN: I work for AWS. How do I encourage change for Amazon warehouse workers?
Don't fight AWS nor Amazon. Instead use the money you earn there for good, build your own "nonprofit" that does what you perceive to be good. Don't try to change others or force them to your "ideology", esp. if it's the source of income you depend on.
longtermd··on How to get stock fundamentals data with Python
To be honest, I'm surprised yahoo didn't ban web scraping in their terms of service.
longtermd··on No-code founders are on the rise. Are they making money?
The title is just extremely wrong and clickbait. There's no content or data about "rise". If anything, the default founder is no-code outside of SV. There's a sharp rise of coding-founders, just because basic coding is becoming "basic knowledge" and taught in highschools now. I won't click these clickbait indiehackers links again.
longtermd··on German government to bail Lufthansa out of bankruptcy with nearly $10B state aid
Nope. Because they have already paid all of this in taxes. It means, that the 10 bn won't get 'invested' by the government in another project, e.g., welfare benefits, infrastructure, health, or education. Alternatively, it means: nothing of all of those, but inflation will rise an additional 0.0001% (if the funding source is printing money vs. using tax payer money)

longtermd··on Wealth Inequalities Shown to the Scale
The confusion of wealth and income is big with this one. All of the comparisons, unfortunately, don't make any sense.
longtermd··on Towards Sequoia OpenPGP v1.0
Off topic af: what does the picture on their landing page symbolize? https://sequoia-pgp.org/
longtermd··on Anthos support for multi-cloud is generally available
I think that's a fantastic strategic move, even though I'm usually not a GCP/ Google fan. The idea that you have to constantly disrupt yourself, and even have to cannibalize your own revenue in business to stay alive, is well understood. An idea, that in my opinion, is generally not understood at all even by CEOs. Most would rather hold on to their last penny until getting disrupted and becoming insignificant.
longtermd··on Permanent.org – Nonprofit, secure cloud storage
"a free Gigabyte" doesn't catch anyone in the US since 1999. Try "10 Terabytes" :). Few people will use all of it at once, anyway.
longtermd··on 98.css – design system for building faithful recreations of Windows 98 UIs
Check out https://poolside.fm/ for some extra nostalgia Operating Systems.
longtermd··on Shirt Without Stripes
A pretty accurate descriptions of the State of AI ;D jk
longtermd··on Our Long Bets and Predictions about 02020
They made a Mistake at Teleportation: "The technology will exist that will allow for the “faxing” (teleportation- sending/receiving) of actual inanimate objects, such as text books, clothing, jewelry and the like."

This is TRUE, and can be easily done with 3D printers. Note that "faxing" by definition is not "teleportation", but "copying at a different location", which is exactly what 3D printing is.

longtermd··on The Decline of Usability
I truly feel like Apple and MacOS has next to none of the problems mentioned here :)
longtermd··on KolibriOS – operating system written entirely in assembly language
Exciting! Please be much more specific on your webpage "much faster" (so... 2X, or 10X, ... or just 10%)? Also for "requires only few MB". What are "few MB" for you? 1? 10? 100? :) Please be specific with all your claims and measure everything, to be more credible and useful.
longtermd··on Moving Away from Gmail
I moved to SuperHuman (SH) quite a while ago and really love it!
longtermd··on Bringing 4K and HDR to Anime at Netflix with Sol Levante
Please make 4K the standard for all Youtube videos and all streaming! <3 Let's work on this together of putting quality first!
longtermd··on Show HN: Pdf.js Express – PDF annotation, e-signatures, and form filling
The pricing of 440 USD/month must be an April's joke. It might be worth 9 USD/month compared the many competitors and free solutions.
longtermd··on The facts around Zoom and encryption for meetings/webinars
You’re right. The competitors make as bold claims ;)
longtermd··on Open UI
yes, I'd also love to see a "SPA-first" support for Chrome and Safari. Making SPAs like Vue and React first-class-citizens in speed
longtermd··on Open UI
This page is not working https://open-ui.org/components/dropdown
longtermd··on Ask HN: How to self-study physics?
Read the Feynman Lectures https://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu/
longtermd··on Letter to Myself in Late 2008
I'm extremely interested in "cutting AWS costs by 50%". We already downscaled out EC2 and RDS by about 50% by ourselves.

However, I'm really interested in hearing how you negotiate that bill again? Are there free AWS credits? The AWS Support seems really hard to reach

longtermd··on Jitsi Meet: An open source alternative to Zoom
You should really remove all these negative keywords in your URL: https://meet.jit.si/NorthernLiesImprisonExclusively

longtermd··on Stock Jump – a ski-jumping game with real stock data
How are the stock charts derived? Is this 1 day, 1 week, 1 year, ... chart?
longtermd··on LibraryThing Is Now Free to All
