> the CEO can't just write a mass email without approval from legal or other comms teams.

They can be brought in to do their job on a Sunday for an event of this relevance. They can always take next Friday off or something.

loloquwowndueo··on Prove you are a robot: CAPTCHAs for agents
> TL;DR: just ask your agent to summarize this post for you.

Holy shit - why don’t they produce an AI summary and plonk it in there for everyone to use? The energy savings across all people who’ll read the summary would be staggering!

Sensitive environment variables are environment variables whose values are non-readable once created.

So they are harder to introspect and review once set.

It’s probably good practice to put non-secret-material in non-sensitive variables.

(Pure speculation, I’ve never used Vercel)

Makes it even more relevant to have the actual app or vendor name - who’s to say they just removed it to save face and won’t add it later?
loloquwowndueo··on Vercel April 2026 security incident
The actual app name would be good to have. Understandable they don’t want to throw them under the bus but it’s just delaying taking action by not revealing what app/service this was.

That’s not how probabilities work.

“Less than 1% of our users” means 10k affected users if you have 1 million users. 10k victims is a lot! Imagine “air travel is safe, only a subset of 1% of travellers die”
loloquwowndueo··on Archive of BYTE magazine, starting with issue #1 in 1975
Most trade magazines of that era were pretty similar in size and number of ads , eg. PC Magazine. Pre-Internet they were one of the only ways to keep up with industry news, topics and products.
loloquwowndueo··on All 12 moonwalkers had "lunar hay fever" from dust smelling like gunpowder (2018)
Only 4 are still alive, all in their 90s so that’d be a long time - even if some do have cancer at this stage it’s not likely to affect life expectancy I guess.
loloquwowndueo··on Scan your website to see how ready it is for AI agents
Pointed it at my blog and it gave me a 25% score. Tempted to put that as a badge of honour on my site!

A lot of the misses are for stuff a blog doesn’t need like mcp or api catalogs. It’s a damn blog, I have no api. Unless rss feed counts.

loloquwowndueo··on US Bill Mandates On-Device Age Verification
Haha I think he was just being humorous, expletives notwithstanding.

Know what gave it away?

> enough in the bank at three to five percent

I mean lol if he’s expecting banks to be around in a societal collapse situation he’s got another thing coming, wonder how the shitbox car will do when fuel runs out in 8 weeks worldwide. Mad max baby!

Hahah calm down man. Google for “daddy chill meme”.

loloquwowndueo··on The future of everything is lies, I guess: Where do we go from here?
It’s automating the wrong thing.

I want my ai to do dishes and laundry so I can write, draw, do deep cognitive work.

Not for it to do cognitive work and write and draw while I don dishes and laundry.

There’s a black mirror episode about this.

loloquwowndueo··on Turn your best AI prompts into one-click tools in Chrome
lol I once used a similar “you’re a machine so just do as you’re told” to a prompt and it answered back: “I’m not a machine, I’m Claude a helpful assistant” and refused to do what I asked because it claimed I didn’t have the authority to make the decision I’d asked it to convey in writing.

My experience has been the opposite :) but hey.

So you were already reading. What about younger children?

That said - I fully agree, I’m surprised I don’t speak with a Star Trek accent given where I had most of my early exposure to English.

loloquwowndueo··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
Regional accents are a thing and stuff like Argentinian Candy Candy or Cuban Mazinger Z are totally childhood-defining.

> I don't want every villain in every movie have the same voice.

Sounds like your problem is with crappy, cheap dubbing, not dubbing in general.

Look at Disney animation for dubbing done right (and more so in the 20th century - these days I’m not so sure).

loloquwowndueo··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
Dubbed content is ok for young children I guess.
loloquwowndueo··on Rare concert recordings are landing on the Internet Archive
Windows, right? If so, that’s your problem. Your computer is controlled by someone else.

(Just being snarky btw lol)

loloquwowndueo··on Apple's accidental moat: How the "AI Loser" may end up winning
I think stavros means amortization on an individual level - if all software is bloated and requires 16GB to run then my expense for a 16GB stick is not caused by a single piece of software, but everything I use.

Not that I agree of course :) I’m talking more of the net negative of everyone needing to buy 16gb sticks so developers can YOLO vibe-coded unoptimized garbage. But at least I think the former explanation is what stavros meant :)

loloquwowndueo··on Apple's accidental moat: How the "AI Loser" may end up winning
One stick does. How about all the sticks needed for all the people who want to run the software?
loloquwowndueo··on Tell HN: Docker pull fails in Spain due to football Cloudflare block
It would be great if there was a webpage with clear instructions on how to do this, maybe fill out a few questions and get a printable pdf you can mail, or at least telling you how to file an online complaint. Making complaints very low friction will lead to more of those and perhaps more attention to the issue.

Snail mail uses up physical space so it might get more attention, it would be hilarious to see news reports of truckloads of complaint mail being dumped in front of the whatever office.

loloquwowndueo··on Americans still opt for print books over digital or audio versions
That’s not what the person I was replying to was complaining about. I don’t know why you put this unrelated (and perfectly valid btw) opinion as a response to me.
