lolive··on iPhone Duo
I only hope that apps that were iOS16+ compatible will stay so. Updating my iPad because there is a new marketing trick from Apple is NOT something i would like.

Savonarole in Firenze was probably in that exact state of mind: that the world was not following at all its normal pace and something very wrong was happening. But the decisions he took were absolutely wrong and eventually he had to be stopped.

So depending on your current mindset, you can think that the tech bigs are the Médicis, and the frantic opponents are new-age Savonarole.

Or that the big techs ARE actually Savonarole who bend the system to their own perception of what the world should be.

Honestly I don’t know which analogy is the proper one.

In addition to those two bangers, BBC6 and RNE also have shows to discover new musics. PS: RadioParadise is also a safe place for good music.

Mostly I listen to web radios, not always in a language that I master (hello Japanese). And Shazam plus Spotify is still a killing combo, for me.

lolive··on Mistral Patent for “Code implemented tool calls”
I filled a patent in France. That was denied by the French office as being a conceptual method More than an invention. I accepted that decision. But there is a completely unexpected side effect, explained to me by a patent advisor. I probably now can oppose that nullified patent to any patent that would implement a version of that conceptual method. Not sure of the reality of that statement, but that’s a funny backfire.
lolive··on Apple Will 'Watch Everything Burn' When AI Bubble Bursts
My comment regarding Google victory was not related to the merits of its current tooling. But to me, it is the only company with already established cash cows. and its speed of adaptation shows that it is not left behind for very long by competitors in delivering state of the art LLM models.

Google will win the AI war. I really don t see how things can be different. The true question is how much the involvement of Sergei Brin will have been a major part of that win. [but now that I work in a big corp, I can understand how one smart guy saying “shut the f..k up, managers. I show the path” can be extremely disruptive in those kind of environments. For the better!]

JSON and CSV [and a massive amount of custom-made spaghetti code] gave the impression that semantics was totally unnecessary in dataflows. Now that we live in a world where dataflows build themselves, we will need a description language that is much more robust. Probably generated from chatbot interactions, but formally defining how the consumer can discover content and mix them.

Visual representation is your WORST friend: it will make things LOOK simple even if the real thing required the utter mastery to create.

lolive··on JSON-LD explained for personal websites
I work with Palantir Foundry stack, and I awfully think that this is the best implementation of semantic web principles I could ever imagine.

And the current trend is really to connect the AI layer of Foundry with the ontology layer.

Note: after rereading your comment, I must admit that Foundry enforces data co-locality and model co-locality (==a unified centrally managed ontology). Which are NOT what the semantic web wanted.

lolive··on JSON-LD explained for personal websites
The concept will re-emerge somehow. Webpages are 99.99% of the time the formatting of a data structure for humans. LLM can barely infer that data structure from the webpage and connect it with other data structure of other pages. [truth is that the LLM algorithm does not do that AT ALL internally, but from our user experience it really looks like it does].

But when webpages die and data is accessed only by machine2machine APIs, we will no longer have this formatting for humans. Then we will need API-literate LLMs. Which means LLMs that can connect the dots between shitloads of unconnected JSONs. And if we don’t hint it for which connections are existing between that chaos of APIs, it will not be able to apply its magic. In short: we need to be able to bring JSON to vector space. And it is absolutely not meant for that, by default.
