So the plan is build products but also focus on acqui-hire possibilities. If that fails, make sure my resume benefits from my projects. While I am already making pretty decent salary but if all those rumors about FAANG salaries are true, I can double my salary easily. So I can easily recover lost paychecks.
Well that's the idea, who knows how it will play out.
But this is slowly burning me out. The boredom of not doing any real work for 8 hours is soul killing. I do a lot of busy red tape work but it is not intelluctly stimulating.
So now I will do 180 and quit my job in a few months and go indie solo founder route.
Right now, I have about dozen unused names that I bought because I was working on some ideas but got side tracked. Maybe I will finish these projects next year or next decade.
But I don't want some 3rd party deciding if I should lose my domains because I didn't write enough code last month.
While a lot of people are skeptical of the official numbers from these countries, I think they have free media and if cases were high, we would have known.
It saddens me to see so many devs especially the H1Bs getting abused by PMs.
In some countries without mandatory health insurance, medical cost is a lot lower and simpler. If major medical emergency happens, then families usually need to take out a loan. But for regular medical issues, you save for it. This includes issues like childbirth which in America very few people can afford without insurance.
I imagine, having health or car insurances gives some sense of false security, which leads to poor lifestyle choices or driving fast, which in turn causes one to experience bad health or accidents, thus using their insurance. Which causes insurance rates to rise. And one is not directly negotiating with hospital or bodyshop, those prices rises too.
I have been in software industry for 15 years and this happens all the time, being forced to release unfinished features, asked to ignore security, backups, etc. I would imagine same thing happens in other industries.
Several of my friends buy clothes from a few vetted brands because of exactly this issue.
Then I have another friend who was huge cruise ships fan. He encouraged me to go on my first cruise too. But then there was a report about mistreatment of cruiseship employees, and he is totally against cruiseships now. His actions probably won't change anything alone but if enough consumers start to act like him, a change may happen.
I hate regulations but I am of opnion that if you are a platform that other people use to make living then you should be regulated. Don't be platform of you cannot provide processes to handle appeals or able to pay massive damages in case of false positives.
For now, I will stick with webdev.
Also unlike in some creative industries, software engineers tend to have higher education and are better able to understand their economic contributions.
But this reminds me of a time when I went to movies with some younger family memeber and their friends. After the movie they asked each other if they loved the movie. To me love was really strong word. I wanted to say I liked it, not loved it but then I thought no need to be negative here. So I just said yes.
So when people ask did you like the movie, many people subconsciously say yes even if they disliked it.
If you are in a resturant with friends and get a wrong food, would you tell your friends? I am wondering because I have never seen anyone stay quite if their food order was wrong. Just wondering if it may have happened among my group of friends, and they quitely ate their food.
If Amazon ships you a wrong product, would you keep that instead of what you had ordered?
It is kind of amazing how many times UberEats, GrubHub, etc deliver cold food. Not just for me but vast majority of my friends report same thing.
As a consumer, I rather get refund so bad companies can go bankrupt before becoming too big to fail.
