lokopodium··on Gruen transfer
This is almost like paged memory with faulty cache write-back.
lokopodium··on Gruen transfer
Oh come on, Ikea allows you to go directly to the warehouse, use a computer to locate the thing you're after and get lost. It also has maps and shortcuts to get you directly to the department you're after. Costco, on the other hand...
lokopodium··on Is sorted using SIMD instructions
Generic code yields better results than SSE/AVX optimized ones. I wonder why that could be.
lokopodium··on U.S. judge says Uber drivers are not company's employees
You'd think minimum wage should be observed even if you're allowed a nap.
lokopodium··on Google Is Pursuing Pentagon Cloud Contract Quietly, Fearing Employee Revolt
I edited the above comment with the correct article.

It's pointless to argue about free election outcome without free access to media. In any western country, an investigation alleging president's friends funneling billions of tax money offshore would be in every news issue. Brazil got rid of a president over much much less. How can you call it an election if you can't get any airtime, are convicted in a kangaroo court and your brother is in prison?

That's not even funny (I'm Russian). There was zero allegiance while mass media was even half-free. After 15 years of state monopoly on TV most people are actually frightened into allegiance. Have a read: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/nov/29/24-hour-putin-...

Edit: wrong week of watching Russian TV, correct one here:http://www.businessinsider.com/russias-showdown-with-west-wi...

From what I know, contractors for questionable activities with Russian govt mostly live abroad, so much for social cohesion. No idea what they do in China.
lokopodium··on Google Is Pursuing Pentagon Cloud Contract Quietly, Fearing Employee Revolt
It would make more sense to not collaborate with Russian/Chinese governments, since those are not remotely democratically elected.

There is very little officially published about this. It appears that Github invited a senior ICE official to speak at one of their events. This, however remote, affiliation was deemed inappropriate by many, forcing Github to rescind the invitation.

First the Github/ICE scandal, now this.

When did it become disgraceful to be a part of your country?

lokopodium··on Google starts blocking “uncertified” Android devices from logging in
Except Android devices without their services are still perfectly workable.

Many security-paranoid people I know run Lineageos/plain AOSP happily.

lokopodium··on My daughter's disabled. Please don't look away from her
Also "just ask" is quite an oversimplification. I'd have no idea how to even talk about it.
lokopodium··on Guccifer 2.0 Slipped Up and Revealed He Was a Russian Intelligence Officer
Fair enough. I'm not trying to point at who started it, just why are 60 year old rules suddenly forgotten.
lokopodium··on South Korean government to shut off computers to stop its employees working late
What about those who work late away from computers?
lokopodium··on Guccifer 2.0 Slipped Up and Revealed He Was a Russian Intelligence Officer
Most of the damage was always done from far away. Field operatives are a minority in every intelligence service.
lokopodium··on Guccifer 2.0 Slipped Up and Revealed He Was a Russian Intelligence Officer
It was as much on US turf as Hanssen when he received money and dead-dropped secrets. Neither the hackers or Hanssen's handlers were not caught on US turf.
lokopodium··on Guccifer 2.0 Slipped Up and Revealed He Was a Russian Intelligence Officer
It's not anything new. KGB did poison attacks in London (Georgi Markov). CIA tried to kill Castro. KGB sponsored PLO. CIA sponsored Afghani rebels. CIA toppled Salvador Aliende. How exactly is Trump story or Skripal poisining new? Why do they suddenly shy away from country vs country action (i.e. sanctions) into indicting low-level operatives?
lokopodium··on Guccifer 2.0 Slipped Up and Revealed He Was a Russian Intelligence Officer
Everyone with ability and motivation has done this on every occasion. Going after individuals when it's obvious it's a state actor is what puzzles me.
lokopodium··on Guccifer 2.0 Slipped Up and Revealed He Was a Russian Intelligence Officer
Unwritten Cold War rules pretty much said you don't pursue the opposing officers unless you catch them on your turf.

It's obvious that the troll factory people and Guccifer 2.0 were acting on behalf of Russia with the direct approval from Putin. Why bother indicting individuals?

lokopodium··on YouTube Comedian Convicted of Hate Crime for Posting Dumb Video
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
lokopodium··on Artificial data give the same results as real data without compromising privacy
How can you prove that meaningful "actual" data can't be reconstructed from synthesized data?
lokopodium··on Lithuanian is riddled with references to bees
Funnily, Old Slavic for bear is бер, cognate to bear. However, this word became taboo too.
lokopodium··on Self-driving Uber car kills Arizona woman crossing street
It is, actuators still have their lag, probably not much different from foot-pedal combo.
lokopodium··on Self-driving Uber car kills Arizona woman crossing street
It's said she's been hit immediately after entering a car lane outside a crosswalk. Quite possibly there was no time for the autopilot to react at all. I hope all video footage for self-driving crashes is mandatorily released.
lokopodium··on Artificial data give the same results as real data without compromising privacy
They use real data to create artificial data. So, real data is still more useful.
lokopodium··on Knusperli: A deblocking JPEG decoder
The same should be applicable to MP3s. Also, the continuity measure could include derivatives as well.
lokopodium··on Rubber that can make and store power from light and vibration
This guys's research history: I love magnetic fluid and I'm not tired of trying new things about it.

It's fascinating how people's obsession with obscure things yield scientifically significant results.

lokopodium··on Rubber that can make and store power from light and vibration
They say it's magnetic rubber, which would explain movement to electricity, but light? How can magnets capture light energy?

lokopodium··on Apple Watch Adoption
Sounds complicated. Most gym rats I know just use pen and paper clipboards. Then again, I guess most gym rats are not really tech savvy/apple fashion type.
