log101··on AWS Acquires DuckLabs
1 month later: "Re-writing DuckDB in Rust with Claude Ultra". There is a curios phenomenon, big tech uses great open source projects as a guinea pig for experimenting agent-based development approaches, see Bun, AstroJS.
log101··on CodePen 2.0
CodePen is like an HTML/CSS/JS temple. Greate place to explore the limits of what native web offers.
log101··on Anatomy of a Frontier Lab Agent Intrusion: A Timeline of the July 2026 Incident
I have never seen people this hyped and excited about a security incident.
log101··on Take Two: Eshell
I wish someone could write a "The Good Parts" book for Emacs. Even after reading the manual twice, I'm still overwhelmed with the API and forget even the most basic configuration options after a month of inactivity.
log101··on Show HN: Minimal MCP server in Go showcasing project architecture
Thanks to tools like aider and claude code, these scaffold projects are getting more and more helpful. Just clone it and prompt it for your use case.
log101··on Ask HN: Have you ever taken a career break or gap year to hack?
I'd like to take this question one step further: When do you think is an appropriate point to take a sabbatical? After working for a year, two years, three etc. The reason I'm asking is that junior developers might feel the need for a break earlier in their careers compared to experienced devs.
log101··on Genie: Best AI Software Engineer
“…a human reasoning lab”

log101··on How fast can a human possibly run 100 meters?
Please don’t do it, this will surely limit out potential!
log101··on DuckDuckGo AI Chat
imho waste of engineering time…
log101··on AI-generated sad girl with piano performs the text of the MIT License
Sounds like GladOs from Portal 2
log101··on Mental Health in Open Source
Amazing timing, I was just getting into open source these days and I have the same feelings you described in the beginning when I make a contribution. The essay kindly tells us how you feel right now, proud but tired and contemplating. IMHO That’s always going to be the case for hard working people like you, but still it is interesting that you kept pushing even though you didn’t feel comfortable and confident doing all those things you were unprepared for. And even though you were able to overcome all those challenges, you still doesn’t sound satisfied with you current situation. Maybe that’s because you have even bigger dreams? I think you’ve done an amazing work and deserve a long rest. I’m sure it’ll be bit harder for people depending on you, but they’ll get used to it eventually and you’ll feel more relaxed and maybe more fulfilled by giving yourself some space and time.
log101··on Show HN: Restaurants in Peace – leave a remembrance for a closed restaurant
I knew other people felt the same way! There was this coffee shop I always hanged out, which recently "permanently closed" as the owner died RIP. It is really hard to explain that feeling, which I literally can't. But awesome idea!
log101··on Smart Programmers Write STUPID Code (2022)
I'd prefer BORING instead of STUPID. I don't want to see coworkers talking about writing "stupid code" all-day.
log101··on Svelte is surprisingly easy to learn
That simplicity, and we could say the same thing for React, makes it the worse candidate for developing apps. The building blocks are so small that it is almost impossible for juniors/mids to write well-written/well-structured code.
log101··on Ask HN: How to get most out of iPhones' computing power?
No not yet, but that’s right .)
log101··on YouTube no longer suggests videos if your ‘watch history’ is turned off
Thankfully! Best feature of the Youtube history. I've always hated irrelevant suggestions. There is always a search bar if I wanted to explore. right?
log101··on Don't be clever
I did exactly the same thing lately, calendar had to be delayed 2 weeks at the end, almost got fired .)
log101··on Run Llama 2 uncensored locally
Finally, I was just trying to find similar models yesterday! Seems like "evil" was not the correct keyword .)
log101··on Kevin Mitnick has died
Ghost in the Wires has had a huge influence on me choosing a programming career. So sad, rest in peace.
log101··on Netscape and Sun announce JavaScript (1995)
That explains the Java part.
log101··on Metaculus
It reminds me of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series
log101··on Get a personal teacher
As a voluntary computer science tutor, I couldn’t agree more! I haven’t had any tutor before so I can easily compare. Their 6 months = My 2 years…
log101··on Launch HN: Infisical (YC W23) – Open-source secrets manager for developers
Not related but who or what tool designs these "startup pages"? I need it for my own work.
log101··on I want to lose every debate
> They lend me their shoes and glasses, so I can walk a mile with their viewpoint and experience it for myself.

I love this qoute and completely agree with it, it's always enlightening to "really" try to understand other people, without evaluating whether they're right or wrong. But the problem arises when you both start acting and your ideas clash. And you need to decide which is the "best" way.

log101··on Piero della Francesca's symbolic egg (2013)
Their sacredness is not related to metaphysics, it is not originating from their existence itself. As you said it is just because one certain spider is believed to do an important thing. For example AFAIK spiders are not used as figures in Islamic Culture, they don't have semiotic meaning. So Ostrich eggs being anti-spider doesn't necessarily mean they are evil/unholy.
log101··on I still use Flash
It was a pretty insightful article, I didn't know how a flash game worked internally and how it could be reimplemented! I think it is also relevant for those migrating their projects to newer technologies, I always found this process fun(except there is a deadline) :)

(Edit: I love your games and used to play a lot when I was a kid)

log101··on Ask HN: How influential can physical appearance be in professional environments?
Here it is asked whether appearance makes any difference in professional setting, but comments seem to be diverged from the question. Young people seem to exaggerate the role of their appearance, it might make a slight difference when you first trying to find a job, but after that all that is left is your experience and talent. I can't imagine getting fired for being ugly or landing (and then staying at) a job for being attractive.
log101··on Show HN: I may have created a new type of puzzle
I love it!
log101··on Adobe to acquire Figma for $20B
Noooooooo!
log101··on Purring is a love language no human can speak
It might sound odd but I can purr by exhaling while closing my lips and putting my tongue at a certain position. This has interesting outcomes, such as understanding why cats purr! Yes because I also do it from time to time and somehow I can imagine the situations one might have that need to purr. That's why I was bit puzzled while reading the article because the purring is an understandable act to me, not scientifically but psychologically.
