lm2s··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
I’ve seen someone explaining why it’s not as easy with semiconductors: Airbus can spread several different factories for different components around the EU. For semiconductors that’s not as feasible. Thus countries would fight which one would have the semiconductors factory. I think it was more or less this argument, which seems to make sense.
lm2s··on Jev Based Code Review
I think your engineering process is fundamentally broken if you are generating PRs with 230 files changed so regularly that you need to bolt on more AI. You’re solving the wrong problem.
lm2s··on Ten Ways NAS Is Getting Enshitified
Of course no fiddling is a primary point. That’s probably _the main point_. Sure you need _some_ configuration/setup, but it’s in a completely different ballpark to a custom built solution.
lm2s··on U.S. pulling ocean sensors a 'shock' for Canadian research as El Niño nears
Now this would be more credible to me.
lm2s··on Building a coding agent in Swift from scratch
Interesting, I'm also building one in Swift :D Seems like a good learning experience.
lm2s··on I built an AI receptionist for a mechanic shop
Yep this is what I’m seeing as well. The poster has a bunch of videos to sell an image of expert and courses.
lm2s··on I built an AI receptionist for a mechanic shop
This post feels a lot like an ad for courses.
lm2s··on Model Collapse Ends AI Hype
At this point does it matter that there’s apparently no reasoning and it’s not the path to AGI? To me it seems like even as it is, it’ll be a huge disruption to everything, and that it’s not a bubble in the normal sense. Over evaluated, maybe, but there’s still a lot of value.
lm2s··on Step 3.5 Flash – Open-source foundation model, supports deep reasoning at speed
Loved reading the reasoning[0] for the recent "Walk or drive to the carwash" trick.

lm2s··on Slop Terrifies Me
Yes, that’s why they are on the race to building the very advanced robots. To prevent the violence towards them.
lm2s··on TÜV Report 2026: Tesla Model Y has the worst reliability of all 2022–2023 cars (2025)
In what world is this "The 2026 TUV Report doesn't mention which defects were responsible for the Model Y's disappointing performance." acceptable?

Why are they not publishing which defects exist? Not only it make more credible, it would also warn people of what to look for.

lm2s··on Apple introduces new AirTag with longer range and improved findability
Funny story: I actually forgot my backpack in the train at Zurich HB and it went to Basel and back again to Zurich HB, where I was able to get from the train. All the while I was nervously looking at Find My, seeing it travel and just hoping it wouldn’t be stolen.
lm2s··on LG UltraFine Evo 6K 32-inch Monitor Review
I bought one, then returned it the following day. I cannot comprehend how LG is shipping these monitors and people are buying them. The matte finish on the screen is very bad. So bad that you see colorful grains (maybe 0.05-0.1mm each) all over the screen. Particularly noticeable on light content. I had seen some people complaining about it online, but never would’ve imagine that this was the actual issue and it’s still mind boggling that they are producing and shipping these monitors.
lm2s··on Children and Helical Time
Beautifully written. Thank you for this.
lm2s··on It's hard to build an oscillator
For anyone interested in this kind of stuff with a music oriented gist, a while ago I found this awesome YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@MoritzKlein0/
lm2s··on The Effect of Noise on Sleep
Would love to know what kind of noise and sound level was used for this test. Was it a continuous monotonous noise (such as white/pink/brown noise) at a fixed volume? Or was it some random noise that would "pop-up" randomly?

Does anyone know?

I would imagine that a noise that would randomly "pop-up" would be worse. But would be curious if that's not the case.

lm2s··on Compressed music might be harmful to the ears
Does anyone know if they are available and where the used audio could be downloaded? Would love to understand how much compression they put in the audio vs the original.
lm2s··on Social Security Administration Moving Public Communications to X
X might well become the WeChat of USA.
lm2s··on Volkswagen reintroducing physical controls for vital functions
Interestingly almost everything VW will reintroduce is already physical on Tesla, no? The only thing with no physical buttons on Tesla are the temperature and fans. Or am I missing something?
lm2s··on US egg prices increased 22% in 2025 and 202% in 12 months
Is this a serious comment? Bird flu is happening right now in EU.
lm2s··on US egg prices increased 22% in 2025 and 202% in 12 months
It’s not, bird flu has also been detected 1-2 days ago in Portugal near where I live.
lm2s··on "Sugar rush" in children seems to be confirmation bias
This is really weird. It's something I feel as an adult when I consume too many sugary things. Could it be related to something else in those sugary things (candy, sodas, ..) instead of sugar? That'd be interesting to find out.
lm2s··on Road planners embrace the diverging diamond interchange
For the space that these diamond intersections use, wouldn't a roundabout also fit in that space and be a better option?
lm2s··on Hackers discover how to reprogram NES Tetris from within the game
Ask any parent how much time they had free (and didn't realize) before having kids. It's quite interesting how much time we have free and not really realize.

Not saying that work doesn't take out a very big chunk of it, it does. But we still have more free time than sometimes we realize.

What we many times lack, is perspective and commitment.

lm2s··on Open Sourcing DOS 4
I did that with GTA, translating it to Portuguese. It was then that I learned that I could overwrite the strings with the Hex Editor, but not insert anything because it would stop working. And thus began my dive into computers.

Great memories, thanks for making me remember it.

* Actually now that I really think about it, it wasn't with an Hex Editor, it was with Edit! Fun times.

lm2s··on Top Israeli spy chief exposes his true identity in online security lapse
But the book was released 3 years ago? He made this mistake on purpose 3 years ago to have some way of exiting his role without having to resign?
lm2s··on European crash tester says carmakers must bring back physical controls
On recent models they removed the stalks and put blinker buttons in the steering wheel.
lm2s··on Children need risk, fear, and excitement in play
Another way to teach them about hot things is to have something that is uncomfortably hot but won't burn if you touch it for a few seconds*, warn them that it's hot and remove the fingers quickly but let them touch it anyway. They won't burn themselves but will understand what is hot and will understand when you tell them that it's hot.

The side effect of this, is that then they might be scared of things that are only slightly hot. But that's something easier and less risky to deal with IMO and they'll eventually understand that there's different levels.

*babies/toddlers have a skin that is a lot more sensitive, so this should be taken into consideration.

lm2s··on U.S. workers say banned weed killer in 50 countries is giving them Parkinson's
This one hits close to home. I had a very close family member die because of a Parkinson-like decease not long ago. He had the misfortune of inhaling quite a bit of herbicide after dropping a bag in an enclosed space and ~10 years later he got the decease. Since there was no history of Parkinson or Parkinson-like deceases in the family history, the doctors conclusion was that it must have been a toxic induced decease (not sure how to pronoun this exactly) and the large amount of herbicide inhale in that day was probably the cause.
lm2s··on What's new in Llama 2 and how to run it locally
It might the time mentioned at the bottom of the page since the author isn't sure that the GPU is being used:

>How to speed this up—right now my Llama prompts often take 20+ seconds to complete.
