llomlup··on Apple's iPhone sales in surprise drop
From the article: > Apple boss Tim Cook blamed a "pause" as customers wait for the next iPhone.
llomlup··on Ryzen is for Programmers
Are you, primarily, a developer? Did you find enough scenarios where i7-6950X feels justified, aside from rendering, encoding where this CPU really shines? What does the rest of the setup look like?

Thanks!

llomlup··on AMD Ryzen 5 1600X vs Core i5 Review
Intel's multicore CPUs (hexa-core and octa-core chips) have been available for for Intel's socket B/R systems, which are the HEDT grade. These systems came with a price premium, which isn't exactly the case for R5 and even R7 builds.
llomlup··on AMD Ryzen 5 1600X vs Core i5 Review
Finally, multicore for the masses. A 6C12T based workstation is also a sweet spot for development work.
llomlup··on Ask HN: I'm 20, naive and want to save the world. How?
First, while it's a noble goal, to save the world requires a position of power. So, your goal is to obtain some power. The problem with power is that it corrupts, and it may happen that once you yield significant amount of power, you may not want to use it as you may have originally intended to, because it might be too risky and as a result, you could lose it.

Second - thus, your goal now is to maintain the achieved level of power and look for ways to enlarge it.

Keep in mind that many people don't really care about the good in the world, let alone saving it. Their perspective is a personal one, I'd say even a selfish one.

llomlup··on Stephen Hawking to Unveil Today New Space Exploration Project Called “Starshot”
Here's the live event starting in an hour: http://livestream.com/breakthroughprize/starshot
llomlup··on SpaceX Launch Livestream: CRS-8 Dragon Hosted Webcast
Quite unreal.
llomlup··on SpaceX Launch Livestream: CRS-8 Dragon Hosted Webcast
Of course they do, why wouldn't they? The way they're doing it, seems more spontaneous.
llomlup··on SpaceX Launch Livestream: CRS-8 Dragon Hosted Webcast
Yeah, it's absolutely an amazing thing to watch.
llomlup··on SpaceX Launch Livestream: CRS-8 Dragon Hosted Webcast
Watching the webcast feels like being at some blockbuster movie premiere. There's a largish crowd following the launch and applauding on every launch stage completion. Not that it's a bad thing per se, it's rather the opposite, it however, feels quite weird and staged as opposed to launches done by ESA, Roscosmos or even NASA.
llomlup··on GitHub is down
No issues for me, just merged a pull request.
llomlup··on HoloLens IRL: What It's Like to Use the Microsoft HoloLens Development Edition
I'm in a process of renovating a house. I can easily imagine using HoloLens to help with making decisions on interior decorations, furniture placement, bath elements, it could just that great when you're starting with an empty space and need to put things in it. The only drawback with a HoloLens system is that when you own one, you probably don't need many real things, some virtual ones can act as placeholders.
llomlup··on Google Cardboard Plastic
A truly revolutionary gadget. :)
llomlup··on Model 3 Unveiling [video]
Something isn't right there. The cockpit doesn't seem to be finished. Compared to Model S and Model X cockpits, this one isn't on par. Where are screens behind the wheel, what about the middle console, AC, wheel controls? http://cdn2.autoexpress.co.uk/sites/autoexpressuk/files/styl..., seriously?
llomlup··on Xamarin now free in Visual Studio, and Xamarin SDK being open-sourced
Like I said. Brilliant.
llomlup··on Xamarin now free in Visual Studio, and Xamarin SDK being open-sourced
It could be also that Xamarin didn't want to use pricing it has no control over, e.g. what Microsoft dictates for commercial versions of Visual Studio. I assume that "contact us for a quote" would take you to the MS online store through their sales personnel anyway.

edit: typo

llomlup··on Xamarin now free in Visual Studio, and Xamarin SDK being open-sourced
You'll probably get a refund if you ask. Please, let's know the outcome.
llomlup··on Xamarin now free in Visual Studio, and Xamarin SDK being open-sourced
This is cool. They updated the pricing page: https://store.xamarin.com/. Hint, it's free.
llomlup··on Ubuntu on Windows
Although I've been a primarily C# dev for years, I gradually moved to Ubuntu, and then to OSX, all because of the better terminal/s. I like Macs, but OSX, its window management system, finder, is really bad. Having bash environment available on Windows is an incredible feat and a reason alone to reconsider Windows again. Hopefully, it won't be limited to W10.
llomlup··on Scala School
I shared the same sentiment the first time I picked up Go. Coincidentally, we also share the same background (I've been a C# developer for years). However, I hold no longer the same sentiment toward Go. Yes, it forced me to think dramatically different than it was the case before, but nowadays Go is just a breeze to work with. Hence, I even do coding challenges in Go just because it's fun.
llomlup··on Every Country Will Have Armed Drones Within Ten Years
I guess the title should say "Every developed and some developing countries". Other countries have troubled economies that barely allow to have armed forces, let alone to purchase a new hardware.
llomlup··on Learn Git in the Browser
Nice tool. I keep suggesting it to people wanting to learn git.
llomlup··on Ask HN: How many "self-taught" programmers and how did you do it?
I had no computer until I was 18 (couldn't buy one :/), so in order to compensate, I stayed in the school's computer lab whenever I was allowed, where I played mostly with TurboPascal and BASIC. Just after the high school, I started volunteering in the local IT company, doing some VB stuff. After 3rd month they have employed me on a full-time basis. 11 years FF, I am in Germany where almost everybody working in the IT has a degree, developing PKI-related products in .NET, and before that I rejected a CTO offer.

I still learn and read a lot, I have always one course going (most recently on Coursera).

llomlup··on Hyperloop speculation – launch assist for electric aircraft
After ruling out underground tubes, electric aircraft and coast-to-coast travel, teleportation seems to be the only option left. And I haven't really expected that.
llomlup··on Watch Out For The Balkans
Agreed. Also in Balkans, due to weak economy and lack of state support, devs won't easily risk giving up their jobs in order to run a full-time startup (no VC's to fund projects there).
llomlup··on Watch Out For The Balkans
Many development shops in Balkans provide near-shore, off-shore services to European and US customers. Those companies have experienced significant grow in short time, e.g. from 5 to 50 employees in just two years or so. A stretch to higher numbers > 200 people isn't strange as well.

However, a Skype/another $1 billion business level success is yet to be seen.

llomlup··on Edward Snowden submits asylum applications
I would have asked Serbia as well. Although they're a small country, they could resist US because of Snowden. They have been bombarded by NATO and later, they've been forced to accept a secession of Kosovo.
