llao··on Walmart Grocery is now offering a $98 per year ‘Delivery Unlimited’ subscription
Does topical discussion of Amazon come up at other places you frequent? If not, this makes sense.
llao··on On Dat
Having to stay on a website 24/7 to get new content sounds not very usable or user-friendly.
llao··on Desktop Neo – rethinking the desktop interface for productivity
Honest curiosity: How many gestures do you regularly use? How many buttons does your mouse have?
llao··on US Customs Database Of Traveler Photos Was Hacked And Stolen
You are vastly over-exaggerating. According to https://aviation-safety.net/statistics/period/stats.php?cat=... , even when limiting to the period between ~1970 and ~2003, it is about 2 per month on average. The total sum of fatalities is just over 1000 people.

This is nothing to justify the massive surveillance.

llao··on Google's Captcha in Firefox vs. in Chrome
It would not be funny if even just one person ended up with that so I hope not. A bot would not end up in that situation anyways, either the earlier commands were already evaluated or your proposed remote kill would also not work.
llao··on Always Own Your Platform
Oh how cool is that, I never even heard that term before. Thanks! It does look quite complex though, I have to learn about proxying and nginx.
llao··on Google's Captcha in Firefox vs. in Chrome
The topic itself is definitely super interesting and relevant. But the submitted post is pretty much a meme.
llao··on Always Own Your Platform
Yes and that makes things magnitudes more complex than just serving a static HTML page.
llao··on Always Own Your Platform
You are not doing something wrong, you are simply not designing for high-load. Loading things dynamically on every request is perfectly fine for almost any blog.

Moderation is offtopic. Putting comments on a different system seems like overzealous, premature optimisation...

llao··on Always Own Your Platform
A blog typically comes with a comment function. That's something dynamic which requires lookup in some sort of database. Your page is purely static and does not even have pagination between posts. Hosting that is trivial and nothing to boast about. Your comparison is really unfair and needlessly nasty.
llao··on Google's Captcha in Firefox vs. in Chrome
Surely the same is true if you block these things in Chrome?
llao··on Google's Captcha in Firefox vs. in Chrome
While relatable, this is just a low effort post more suited for Twitter or Reddit.

For a fair comparison OP would need to use clean browser profiles on fresh IPs. Like this it is just fan-service for Google Captcha victims (like me).

llao··on Pictures show cracks in Ayrshire nuclear reactor
That's another thing destroying civilization much faster than nuclear waste. Not sure why you mention it in this thread on nuclear waste.
llao··on PDF Is the World's Most Important File Format
Then why would they hijack the top comment about widespread PDF support instead of making a separate top-level post when the whole submission is about PDF?
llao··on Mozilla is giving up on their IRC server
Thank you! I wonder if there is a way to see the % of votes from subreddit members vs others. Memes and similar sh*tposts can really ruin a subreddit in weeks.
llao··on How to organize a study group, book club, online group or event
Of course not, just like my forum would not be open for people who post flame-bait like yours.

Behaving like a decent human being is an implicit, obvious rule.

llao··on Setting Up a Pi Hole Made My Home Network Faster
Please add "Pi-Hole" to the title, this is just the umpteenth post about that and the title is clickbait.
llao··on Boston Dynamics’ new robot stacks boxes [video]
I think that was a carefully orchestrated action for PR.
llao··on A solar-powered, self-hosted version of Low-Tech Magazine
It seems to be purely about aesthetics and ridicules other things said on the page. JPEG would not only be quicker to decompress but could also be much smaller for a similar "geeky" look.
llao··on An audio message improved our conversion rate by more than 50%
None of that nonsense if you browse with javascript disabled by default. It is a soothing experience.
llao··on PROCJAM’s Seeds zine – Issue 3
That's the perfect use case for a feed. Noticing when something new is available.
llao··on An overflow error costing 500M dollars (1996)
How did they get to know what had happened? Was it reconstructed after the crash? If so, then why was it not simulated beforehand? Or did they get live data during it?
llao··on Show HN: HTML5 Video Player in TypeScript
Probably patented.
llao··on Preserving a floppy disk with a logic analyzer and a serial cable
It's a hobby.

Other people care about collecting small colored pieces of paper, or tweak their cars, or go on hikes, or paint.

llao··on GIMP and GEGL in 2018
Ctrl-E, Ctrl-Q, Alt-D

If you need a more simplistic tool, try Pinta.

llao··on Thunderbird in 2019
It is weird to see it at blogs.mozilla.org then…
llao··on Marble Marcher: ray-traced real time game on the surface of evolving fractals
What a super well done video! Really benefits the game itself. Clear, concise, intriguing and so positive. Can't wait to try this when I have time.
llao··on What Is Going to Happen in 2019
Wow, I haven't heard about that site before. Was ready to bash it for being yet another get-rich-quick Cryptocoin scam but it is actual real money (I believe?) and an academic project:

> PredictIt is a research project of Victoria University of Wellington. In order to take full advantage of the research opportunities presented by prediction markets like PredictIt, we make our data available to members of the academic community at no cost. PredictIt’s market data offers researchers a wealth of information that can be used to further our understanding of a wide array of subjects in fields of study as diverse as microeconomics, political behavior, computer science and game theory. PredictIt is excited to support the work of our researcher partners as they push the boundaries of human knowledge.
