listentojohan··on Ask HN: I will become a father tomorrow, what advice could you share with me?
Congrats. 3 things that I found the most useful: - Know that it will get better. The first period, and periods after, will suck. But it is also very much worth it. When things are at the absolute worst, just remember that this too shall pass. - We got an octopus teddy from Jellycat - lifesaver! Baby’s hands will pull out the pacifier when they sleep - they wake up - you wake up. The baby could hold on to the tentacles instead of the pacifier, meaning everyone slept better. - Prep meals when possible. Cooks stews and similar for the freezer for those hard times when you can’t even think of cooking. Will make it easier to get a good meal.

Bonus: sleep whenever possible, and bring the baby to see friends so you don’t become a hermit.

There's Tomorrow - and they're hiring. https://www.tmrow.com/
listentojohan··on Psytrance Guide
My first though was Ishkur's guide to electronic music as mentioned in another comment, and which hasn't updated in ages. I then go into the wikipedia, and along to twitter, and see that there's been a countdown going on today - hoping it's a launch of a new version... https://twitter.com/Ishkur23
listentojohan··on Ask HN: What discontinued company/product do you wish was still around?

listentojohan··on Facebook’s patents show a commitment to collecting personal information
It's preposterous. I don't think there should be any patents. At all. Maybe copyright.
listentojohan··on Chatbots were the next big thing: what happened?
Thank god. Too often, they just work as a hindrance to get the help you need.
listentojohan··on The rise of the pointless job
He or she is just living off of the tips, and of the selling of perfume and mints.
listentojohan··on Twitter also sold data access to Cambridge Analytica researcher
I find that the whole premise of Twitter, is that the data is public.
listentojohan··on Python, Go or Haskell?
The data science team at my workplace mainly uses python, while the rest of all development is done in Go. Works mostly fine.
listentojohan··on Picture of a Single Atom Wins Science Photo Contest
Awesome pic - and just as mind blowing. Is there a 4k version of the pic?
listentojohan··on UK mass digital surveillance regime ruled unlawful
I'm not exactly convinced this will change anything. It's the same for Denmark, and even though it was also ruled unlawful, it just continues. They are even planning on expanding it, and sharing data across public inst. without approval.
listentojohan··on In-N-Out managers earn triple the industry average
I love their burgers. But their fries. I had to give up. And I love fries! It was like cardboard, which felt so weird after being able to see the process...
listentojohan··on I bought a Switch from Nintendo and they threatened me with legal action
After a lengthy lengthy process, I recently only got things moving forward with UPS, after emailing the CEO directly (found the email online, and briefly listed the situation). Soon after I got two calls, and it was fixed relatively fast (still had to follow up twice...).
listentojohan··on The two questions I ask every interviewer
One of the good interview experiences I had, included going through a project I had previously done, framing the problem, how I'd have worked through it (with class/function level whiteboarding), and what could be improved. It was a project from a previous job, but too high level to be replicated. But could see how going through work from a previous job could be problematic (no code was shown).

listentojohan··on Math education: It’s not about numbers, it’s about learning how to think
The true eye-opener for me was reading Number - The Language of Science by Tobias Dantzig. The philosophy part of math as an abstraction layer for what is observed or deducted was a nice touch.

listentojohan··on How I didn't become a SoundClouder
Also incentivise the company to select a problem that is related to the actual work that they do / need done.
listentojohan··on New Skype Update Is Horrible
I'm surprised by the amount of comments simply stating it's your own damn fault. It seems that for the OP, and for me, that this might have been the very first email that OP had. At a young age most probably. While it's not a given that emails are stored indefinitely for you online - MS didn't exactly warn or spell it out, that it at some point, at its discretion, would simply delete the emails.
listentojohan··on European Commission fines Google €2.42B for abusing dominance
It's pretty much spot on.

listentojohan··on Uber banned in all of Italy
The problem with rating systems for traditional taxi-services is that they are most often without effect. There is no penalty or change if a driver is rated badly.
