I saw the future and it was in the clouds. Useless bum by night. Ham radio (160m & 6m), CW > 30wpm. Still learning all the neat stuff, never give up.

lightlyused··on Digital pregnancy tests have an internal paper test
I wouldn't say super important. I'll probably get down voted for my opinion, but if we had proper sex education for everyone and valued women's health care than this wouldn't be an issue.
lightlyused··on Airline pilots landing at LAX report “a guy in jetpack” flying alongside them
That is a friend of mine's site. If you live near an airport and have a good internet connection volunteer to provide a live feed.
lightlyused··on Ham radio is not dying, it's evolving
There are allocations below 1.8 MHz now.
lightlyused··on Postal Crisis Ripples Across Nation as Election Looms
It could be said that it is harder to suppress the vote of the other party when everybody has equal access through mail in voting.

You can put another container inside the instant pot to hold the masks. That is how you make things like cheese cake in them.

I seem to remember a similar story from another site. I'm thinking it was thedailywtf.com, but I can't find it.
lightlyused··on The Uncertain Future of Ham Radio
Wow, didn't except a downvote for that comment. This isn't reddit folks. Having seen a demo of digital voice on HF by Bruce Perns K6BP, I'm sold that digital voice is a good addition to Amateur Radio.
lightlyused··on The Uncertain Future of Ham Radio
If you can spend a bit more, get an HT that includes DMR.
lightlyused··on Gitlab phished its own work-from-home staff, and 1 in 5 fell for it
At work, failing clicking on a test phishing email can result in a dismissal if you do it too many times in a year.

This is such a good video about 5G and rf in general.
lightlyused··on 15 years later: Remote Code Execution in qmail (CVE-2005-1513)
Remember the code was written when 32bit OSes were the norm , 4GB of memory was HUGE, and internet connections were sloooooooow. So a reasonable assumption at that time was that this will never happen. (Raise your hand if you've said the same about your own code.) I'm sure there is lots of old code still running with the same issues, just that the qmail code seems to be audited a lot. Thankfully it follows a pattern that makes things like this easy to mitigate.
lightlyused··on 15 years later: Remote Code Execution in qmail (CVE-2005-1513)
"we send a very large mail message that contains a very long header line (nearly 4GB)"

4GB header? Who would let an anonymous person on the internet send you an email with a 4GB header.

Figure out how to do it with reasonable limits and then I might worry.

Wow, thanks for this. I hope they can get that fixed in the next version.

lightlyused··on First trans-Atlantic contact made on 432 MHz
BTW, wasn't my station, but a friends I help with.
lightlyused··on First trans-Atlantic contact made on 432 MHz
I've done US east coast to Australia and New Zealand on 160m, with 5 watts and a vertical. Well, the vertical was 90' of tower and had 40,000 feet of wire underneath it and was feed with 1 5/8" hardline, but still.
lightlyused··on First trans-Atlantic contact made on 432 MHz
Yea, ft8 is pretty cool. I've been able to work Europe on 6m during the summer E season (and hear Japan) along with some amazing dx contacts under marginal conditions on HF with it just using a simple dipole antenna.

lightlyused··on Microsoft Wins Pentagon’s $10B Contract
No it was caused by poor grid management at First Energy. If your high voltage lines start to sag because you don't know how to distribute your load and you don't maintain your right-of-way because all you want is profit that is what you get. Ohio is now bailing these idiots nuclear plants out on its citizen's dime, along with coal plants that should have been shut down years ago.
lightlyused··on Show HN: See a Satellite Tonight. No Telescope Required
Yes, I've seen many satellites from the city. I even caught a iridium flare randomly one night. A good time is about 1/2 hour after sunset.
