lfkdev··on Steam Machine launches today
chmod +x makes it executable. Also, at this point just use a trainer
lfkdev··on Exe.dev
Come on guys, it literally says 'ssh exe.dev'
lfkdev··on Tips for stroke-surviving software engineers
No, at least in Germany (pretty sure other western countries too) you are covered after stuff like this. You won't be rich, but enough housing food and your camera.
lfkdev··on Feed the bots
Not sure if I can follow you, why would credentials known by anyone stop bots?
lfkdev··on Recent AI model progress feels mostly like bullshit
Thats not really 'simple' for an LLM. This is a niche information about a specifc person, LLM's train on massive amount of data, the more a topic is being present in the data, the better will the answers be.

Also, you can/should use the "research" mode for questions like this.

lfkdev··on Palantir, MicroStrategy and Axon are now in the Nasdaq 100
Not sure if its that simple. MicroStrategy is buying BTC since its ~10k, which sounds easy but actually requires some insane strength for actually holding it until today 100k+. They actually believed in the asset and got rewarded for it. Banks investing in Gold is pretty much the same.
lfkdev··on Wazuh – open-source Security Platform
Agent based is not really a big burden, most monitoring systems work like this (Prometheus). Companys use Ansible etc.
lfkdev··on Wazuh – open-source Security Platform
As far as I know it's just a node exporter, similar to prometheues node-exporter
lfkdev··on How 'Factorio' seduced Silicon Valley and me
"lost a weekend" - it's called having fun. You loose a week if you work for someone else.
lfkdev··on AAA Gaming on Asahi Linux
"We're going to be blunt: Hacker News is increasingly a haven for alt-right trolls and hateful abusers"

In the years i've been on hackernews, not once i've had the feeling even in the slightest that this is the case. This is crazy.

lfkdev··on Social Web Foundation launches, supported by Vivaldi
Which are Opt-In. It doesn't hurt to have optional features for people who want them.
lfkdev··on Social Web Foundation launches, supported by Vivaldi
Brave is solid. Opensource with some nice features
lfkdev··on Cohost to shut down at end of 2024
presumably unclassifiable aws costs
lfkdev··on Dokku: My favorite personal serverless platform
1) Install Ansible

2) Create a playbook which pulls from your GIT, sets the DNS and installs Caddy (or apache+certbot or whatever) (~5min)

3) Run Ansible

You now don't need docker, can change to any other cheaper hoster any time you want and you don't have the limitations of "serverless" services

lfkdev··on Dokku: My favorite personal serverless platform
What you are actually searching for is called ansible
lfkdev··on Google is the only search engine that works on Reddit now, thanks to AI deal
Yeah awesome, reddit was one of the last useful results beside the spam blogs and ai generated articles.
lfkdev··on Ask HN: Why are people paying so much for Vercel?
How is the biggest configuration management not a transferable skill? And what has this todo with shops?
lfkdev··on Ask HN: Why are people paying so much for Vercel?
You could do just the same with Ansible and Hetzner for 3$ a month
lfkdev··on EasyOS: An experimental Linux distribution
Debian family is actually much bigger for servers in most of Europe. RedHat seems to be more of an American thing (of course you'll also find redhat in eu and debian in usa, but as a general rule)
lfkdev··on RESTful API for executing Ansible playbooks remotely
I'm with you that RPC is better suited for action-oriented APIs - but flask-restx gets the job done well and I know more about it, which is enough for me to simply stick with it. I also like swagger. I'll consider RPC for my next project though
lfkdev··on The weirdest QNX bug I've encountered (2021)
What is going on with the comment section on this post?
lfkdev··on EasyOS: An experimental Linux distribution
Cmon, we're not in 2005 anymore. Linux Desktop is fine for almost everyone even casual user with all big distros.
lfkdev··on Trading cards with e-ink displays (2023)
I know everyone who dares to say anthing about NFTs gets downvoted, but I'll do it. In this case, making the cards an NFT can make this really cool. Some sort of global immortal database where the rarity etc. is defined. Could also have nothing todo with crypto if the dev/publisher pays for the servers.
lfkdev··on Developer posts secret key on GitHub, loses $40K in 2 minutes
What you as a single person trust or not doesn't matter in this case. Enough people already decided to "trust" Bitcoin, that why it's worth 70k. I'm not promoting anything, thats just how money works. There is simply no Intrinsic value.
lfkdev··on Developer posts secret key on GitHub, loses $40K in 2 minutes
We have an end of the world scenario in this case, "money" in form of paper or metal won't have any value whatsoever then. Money in itself only has value if people trust the value of the system, which is given for example in Bitcoin.
lfkdev··on Underscores are stupid? Get a Japanese keyboard (2012)
Just get any VIA keyboard, easy to remap everything
lfkdev··on German state ditches Microsoft for Linux and LibreOffice
Ansible could easily do this
lfkdev··on Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prison
True, I know he caused so much pain for many people. And I'm really not saying he should not receive a big punishment.
lfkdev··on Sam Bankman-Fried sentenced to 25 years in prison
True. But americans love to waste their tax money and put harmless (in a physical violence sense) people like him behind bars instead of doing something useful for society. In 10 years he'll be free and start the next scam with the couple of millions he's probably hiding somewhere.
lfkdev··on Claude 3 beats GPT-4 on Aider's code editing benchmark
Just use the API, do as many requests as you want
