lezojeda··on Ordinary Abundance
I've found that camping and hiking have the amazing benefit of restarting many of the daily pleasures like a good bed, a hot shower, a nice hot elaborated meal, a set of fresh clean clothes, etc.

So, +1 to the recommendation

lezojeda··on Proof of care in the age of AI
I'm 100% sure an AI grifter will see this and start creating blogposts with AI-generated images of handwritten text.
lezojeda··on Why Vanilla JavaScript
And he ended up... creating frameworks himself. I fail to see the whole point of the article tbh. It's a rant against JS frameworks/libraries and the frontend in general all to end up admitting he did the same?
lezojeda··on The Junior Hiring Crisis
Some juniors are even using AI for communication in Slack channels or even DMs. It's so uncanny.
lezojeda··on The Programmer Identity Crisis
What do you do if the manager enables it?
lezojeda··on "Vibe code hell" has replaced "tutorial hell" in coding education
It's basically a scheme letting less scrupulous people offload work on others while at the same time making good impressions to manager, PMs and CEOs who want to automate our job and fire us.
lezojeda··on The email they shouldn't have read
It's so easy to demand a name and shame when you won't be the one facing potential social and economic consequences of doing so.
lezojeda··on Deregulation in Argentina: Milei Takes "Deep Chainsaw" to Bureaucracy
>Inflation expectations were strong and justified. Government deficits were out of control. And the population was truly ready to bear some pain for the sake of reform

We went from 25% inlation where prices changed every single week to discussing whether the government will be able to lower inlation from a monthly 2% (still high, o course). The goal post was moved but I'm just glad not to have prices change every week, it was complete madness. And the 2% is the average, of course, you can find some prices the same as they were 2 months ago.

lezojeda··on Third place
Every time I see someone asking where to meet people to date and then another person mentions gym you get a tons of comments bashing them about how the gym is NOT a place to find a date/gf/bf and you should absolutely not bother anyone. I mean, I understand the point, but the same is said sometimes about universities, random extracurricular classes, etc. so... where is people allowed to meet? Then we all scratch our heads wondering about the loneliness/depression epidemic and the atomization of society.
lezojeda··on MDMA and the Quest for Connection in a Fractured World
Never had a really good trip on mushrooms, I really envy all those that can enjoy them. I always end up digging up the worst traumas and feeling no reason to live.
lezojeda··on The End of the Googleverse
I've stopped trying to use the quotes operator because it clearly started ignoring it many years ago. It's very frustrating.
lezojeda··on The core problem with hamburger menus
It also has the typical annoying dialog open 2 secs after opening the page.
lezojeda··on South Korea to give $490 allowance to reclusive youths to help them leave house
When you have to add so many rules and regulations you know it's not going to work. You can't force human interaction, is something that naturally happens (through common interests, goals and ideologies, spending lot of time together, etc.) or it doesn't.
lezojeda··on The art of auto engineering
But if you add the verification to the asking process you might as well just skip GPT altogether... It becomes a waste of time asking if you have to check every thing you ask it.
lezojeda··on The teen mental illness epidemic is international – Part 1: The Anglosphere
Add increasing concentration of wealth in less and less people, increasing job insecurity due to technological advances rendering many jobs completely useless (and transfers even more wealth to those that are already haves and removes it even more from have-nots), the instant access to compare yourself to millions of others around the world...

I seriously can't understand why some people scratch their heads around the youth's mental health crisis. I'd be baffled if they weren't depresesd.

lezojeda··on I lost everything that made me love my job through Midjourney
To those who are in our 20s and 30s they just answer "be a capitalist, become an entrepeneur, use GPT to build a business".

Never have seen what the answer to people in 40s and 50s with family who can't do a career reset. I guess they'll just have to take a huge pay cut and deal with it, I don't know.

lezojeda··on We are ‘greening’ ourselves to extinction
Because burning coal is still cheaper than wind turbines, for example.
lezojeda··on Do we live in a society without a counterculture?
>There’s routine cases of institutional actors like teachers and their unions trying to groom kids into being “trans”, without talking to the parents.

Can you cite more than one example when and where this has happened?

lezojeda··on We are ‘greening’ ourselves to extinction
Unironically this is how most of the first world thinks while expecting us from the third to completely change our lifestyles and don't we even dare to try to develop the same way you guys did.
lezojeda··on Ask HN: Why Is Everything Declining?
People express this pattern many times in history because it was indeed better to live in some eras than in others.
lezojeda··on Macroeconomic changes have made it impossible for me to want to pay you
You sound pretty envious.
lezojeda··on Cruel optimism and lazy pessimism
>Many of my (completely average looking) friends have found success in online dating, but they’re not broadcasting it to the world. They also avoid talking about it with people who are struggling with online dating because those people don’t want to hear about other people doing well.

Are they really _average_?

lezojeda··on Southwest cancels 5,400 flights in less than 48 hours
They are already pretty resentful at us because we have such high salaries compared to the rest of the population... I bet that nobody is willing to give any penny more to their IT departments
lezojeda··on MIT faculty adopts “Statement on Freedom of Expression and Academic Freedom”
The mental gymnastics here are astounding.
lezojeda··on MIT faculty adopts “Statement on Freedom of Expression and Academic Freedom”
>Leftists are forced to lash out at the false definition of civility that lets people say "I dunno, trans people are icky, let's just not let them pee in public," but doesn't let people say "that's fucked up, where are trans people supposed to pee then?" Because these counter points don't get platformed nearly as much, either because of conservatism or, cynically, because what they have to say is less surprising / offensive / infuriating and thus they won't generate as much attention / clicks / eyeballs / outrage / engagement.

They just want us dead, literally, read it a hundred times. Whether is being killed or suicide, it's the same. Sadly we are an absurd minority (<0.2%) and the tides are already turning for their relief. I gladly don't live in the USA, I would be planning to leave if that were the case

lezojeda··on The Homeownership Society Was a Mistake
I've read the first paragraphs and skimmed the rest, not gonna lie. But for what I understand it speaks mostly from an investment point of view.

I've been renting for 3 years, and I want my own place to do whatever I want regarding building around/inside it, not having to deal with the owner, things that break down and don't certainly belong to me, not having to deal with arbitrary rent raises (and the huge stress of having to move out somewhere else) to etc. etc.

It's not just an investment thing, it's about having something of your own instead of living in someone else's property and abiding to its desires and (rightfully so) conditions.

lezojeda··on Wendy Carlos: The brilliant but lonely life of an electronic music pioneer
Being trans myself, I start to feel that the tolereance upward trend I noticed while growing up has stopped and even coming down in some cases/niches. I started transitioning in 2020, live in a relatively tolerant country like Argentina but feel that it's not like 5-10 years ago. IMO it has to do with the global economic downturn and political polarization, I think there is a correlation between tolerance and wealthiness
lezojeda··on The Right to Be Lazy (1883)
Social status is indeed cultural, but the search for it comes from deep instincts found in a lot of other mammals besides us. Trying to go aginst the search of a higher social status is trying to stop gravity.
lezojeda··on Plaid Layoffs
I honestly think they are starting to use a template or a generated text via some kind of service like ChatGPT
lezojeda··on Drowning in AI Generated Garbage: the silent war we are fighting
