lexy0202··on TypeScript at Google
I'm still reluctant to use TypeScript given that it has a serious type narrowing bug that is two years old! You'd think Microsoft could have sorted this out by now.

lexy0202··on Lessons from Optics, the Other Deep Learning
What the author refers to as "randomization strategies" is in fact regularisation: a set of techniques to prevent over fitting.
lexy0202··on Have We Forgotten about Geometry in Computer Vision?
Yes.
lexy0202··on What happened to Python?
This. Running a script which takes hours to execute, only to find you have a TypeError on the last line just before you get the results you need is really frustrating. Static typing is a must-have imo.
lexy0202··on Tiny-dnn – A C++11 implementation of deep learning
> I can probably write vanilla JS or Python code that does that in 10 lines or so and would finish in around 5 seconds.

Really? There are certainly frameworks that you can use to achieve this performance in that amount of code, but I would be really interested to see that in vanilla JS/Python.

lexy0202··on Microsoft to shut London Skype office putting 220 jobs at risk
Disclaimer: I worked for this company.

StarLeaf (https://www.starleaf.com/) is a great alternative for businesses.

lexy0202··on A Simulation in Emoji
It would be great if you could have simulation objects inherit from one another - e.g. if you're making a weather system to have a generic cloud, and then have thunder cloud and rain cloud inherit from cloud.
lexy0202··on The strange fate of a person falling into a black hole
Light (read: any electromagnetic wave) cannot escape a black hole beyond the event horizon. Therefore this wouldn't work.
lexy0202··on A400M Airbus Flier crashed because of software issues
I have done a quick and rough translation of the German article into English. Hopefully this is better than the Google Translate version: https://gist.github.com/alexcoplan/0018e3320f99a612c737
lexy0202··on The easiest way to use Docker on your Mac
This hangs and hogs the CPU on "Starting Docker VM" for me.

lexy0202··on Quick tip for developers who use OS X
Because it essentially acts like quick look for the terminal.

lexy0202··on Ask HN: Which hosting company to use for a small SaaS product?

lexy0202··on Ruby on Rails vulnerable to mass assignment and SQL injection
Very good explanation - thanks.
lexy0202··on How to Fold a Julia Fractal
Once you get over the 3D header this article is amazing.. the visualisations are incredible.
lexy0202··on Doom3 Gangnam Style in WebGL
And suddenly the true purpose of WebGL became clear..

This is pretty awesome, would be better if it was in sync with the music though? It gets out after a bit.

lexy0202··on Ask HN: Has anyone else seen this Facebook phishing attack?

lexy0202··on HN, why do you auto-capitalize posts?
I would have thought that the kind of people who post on HN are going to be better at correct use of English than those on your average Facebook/Twitter stream.
lexy0202··on I switched back to PHP after 2 years on Rails (2007)
Because Ruby isn't designed purely for making websites. You at least need to use Rack (or a similar API) to hook into a server.

PHP has a lot of features built in which make it almost comparable to a framework. This is because it is designed for making websites out of the box, Ruby is not.

lexy0202··on Tell HN: Let's Be Civil

lexy0202··on CTF: root this box
There has to be some server involved - people can send broadcast messages and the fs maintains state between machines.

It looks like a JS console directly onto a server.

lexy0202··on Who is DDOSing GitHub and why?
I'm guessing that that was probably a joke?

lexy0202··on Opal - Ruby to Javascript compiler
Can you interact with the dom inside opal?
lexy0202··on Have I broken Try Ruby?
I believe they use a timeout to handle infinite loops, but in 1.9.3 it doesn't actually loop anyway, you just get [[...]], and it throws an exception if you try to call a.collapse (or similar).

I'm guessing the problem would most likely be with their version of JRuby.

lexy0202··on Have I broken Try Ruby?
Have filed a bug report on their support system.
