lewaldman··on Poll: What is your primary editor?
I was a VIM guy for some 3 or 4 years... but then... I wanted to learn LISP. Aaand... you can't try to learn LISP without Emacs.

So, Emacs + Evil Mode and some months latter, I'm a full converted.

My last play-out with Emacs was org-mode... still learning it's awesomeness.

lewaldman··on Poll: What is your primary editor?
AwesomeWM + Conkeror... Switched to it and never looked back.
lewaldman··on AWS Key Management Service
Could any one point me what's wrong with nominal users and keys managed by system automation (AKA Puppet/Chef/SaltStack)?
lewaldman··on One Thing Well – A weblog about simple, useful software
Surely you mean AwesomeWM.
lewaldman··on Can the World Really Set Aside Half of the Planet for Wildlife?
> Let's be frank. I don't need you. So if I see you being mugged/raped/beaten, should I just go on my merry way or should I help you?

Yes... you should unless is someone that you care enough to risk abandon every loved one that you have by dying for a stranger.

I'm an extremelly pragmatic a-hole when we are speaking about eco-nonsense.

We will not change on time. We will destroy the planet. This is fine as we are, acording to Darwin, the current fittest animal in the planet.

So... what's the worst that can happen? We will be extincted by ourselves (carring several "not-good-enough-for-evolution" species with us... but, they weren't good enough so, who cares?)... and this my friend, is also fine.

And to close... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NL8HP1WzbDk

"The Planet is fine... we are fd" :)

lewaldman··on Quake-style dropdown Mintty console using AutoHotKey
Same here but binded to F1 and always running it's own tmux session with a root logged terminal, a regular one aaaannnddd a Cmus openend! :P

Nice one about the IRC... will put it on the tmux fourth tab! :D

lewaldman··on Packetbeat: Open-source application monitoring
This would be kibana+elasticsearch+logstash :P
lewaldman··on The Nix project – Atomic upgrades, rollbacks and multi-user package management
Was thinking about install it as my main desktop environment... Went to check the packages and no AwesomeWM.

Any one knows how hard is to add a package?

lewaldman··on Wikipedia redesign
It counts as duplicated content.

A 301 is a redirect. It sends to the client the instruction to reload the page in the given Address.

A rewrite happens only on the server side. So for the client it's like two different sites with the same content, and this hurts your ranking.

Now... Ok that I didn't explained that on the parent post (didn't thought it was needed), but is it enough reason to a downvote? :P

edit: fixed grammar.

lewaldman··on Wikipedia redesign
SEO. And it's just one reason.
lewaldman··on A small router for Openresty
Could you elaborate a bit?

Actually, use nginx as a router sending traffic to different back-ends/applications based on urls is my main usage.

lewaldman··on Nginx 1.6.0 stable released
Nginx+memc+cosistent_hashing+memcache :)
lewaldman··on Project Ara – Google's modular phone project
I think you guys are missing the point here.

The point is: A barebone model for 50 bucks that you could transform in a high-end device expending more money on it when you can afford it.

Also... need more battery life? Why not replace that extra RAM memory module for battery one? Or even... why not to replace the 4 Gb RAM module for one with 1Gb + more battery?

lewaldman··on Confessions of a Full Stack DevOp
Wow mate, don't get me wrong (I'm a SysAdmin/DevOps guy) but...

From where I came and from my background... RPM/DEB packaging is a SysAdmin job.

And... In a properly built infrastructure, what is recompile python 3.3 if not just repackage it?

lewaldman··on SQLite vs MySQL vs PostgreSQL
>If all you are doing is reading single rows from a single table using an index, then yes Postgres is overkill and other solutions may perform better

Honest question... Why someone with this usage would use a RDBMS?

Would be a poor choice IMHO.

lewaldman··on Moto 360
Honestly, I really like the design. :)

Simple, round, small.

With this round steel case, you could even exchange the wristband for a brown lethear one and get a more mature look (all this for only 30 bucks).

lewaldman··on Moto 360
I think all depends on your usage...

I personally never bath with a watch on and never go swimming with this particular watch (I have another one that I use mainly for outdoor activities. A Casio rated to 100 meters).

I really dig watches, and when you start to collect some of them you actually find it's quite fun to chose the right one for the right ocasion! :)

lewaldman··on Moto 360
Lenovo Series W + Linux?
lewaldman··on Android coming to wearables
Define "nature".

Afaik several species beyond our own do oral/anal sex.

lewaldman··on Moto 360
How about Tissot? (I'm by no means really understand about swiss watches, just curious)
lewaldman··on Moto 360
This was, by far the best cost/benefit watch that I found latelly: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004VR9HP2/ref=oh_details_o...

Also, Swatch have some very nice ones, with a VERY good price.

lewaldman··on Moto 360
I usually take it out and put on the table.

One thing that I learned after years of scratching the glass on several watches is that you should take it off often.

Sleep with watch, and bath with watch are just two of the no-go. :)

lewaldman··on Designing and building a keyboard
WOW! Last week I was on forums checking out about coverting a rubber dome keyboard to mechanical...

Now you got me thinking!!! :D

lewaldman··on Why good managers are so rare
My take on Good vs Bad managers is very, very simple:

"Good managers are like sea captains. Bad managers are like a slaves overseer."

The last pearl from my manager was: "If you can produce 100% in 6 hours/day you would for sure produce 150% in 9 hours/day (Together with a puzzled look after I pointed that no, we are not a screws factory)."

I don't need to mention that the entire team is aggressively looking for new positions on other companies (BTW a it is/was a VERY nice team).

lewaldman··on Save more with Google Drive
Exactly what I'm thinking to do.... Going with ownership.

A couple of bitsynced folders, synced to a home storage (and other computers, shared with friends, etc...), that I can backup with Tarsnap.

Simple, reliable and MINE! :P

lewaldman··on Popcorn Time – Watch torrent movies instantly
So finally, I as a "Internet Gueto" citzen can finally watch all the content that I really want to pay for but can't???

This is AMAZING news!!!

lewaldman··on Why Puppet, Chef, Ansible aren't good enough
Were would be Salt on that bag (http://www.saltstack.com/)?
lewaldman··on What is a Web Framework?
Should not be the total replacement for all because?

Also, you could use LUA with nginx to increase the flexibility (if the lack of it was what you mean).

lewaldman··on What is a Web Framework?
Couldn't resist!!! :P

Apache? Python? Why!?

Nginx maybe?

  http {
    upstream database {
        postgres_server  127.0.0.1 dbname=test user=test password=test;
     }

     server {
         location / {
             postgres_pass   database;
             postgres_query  "SELECT * FROM cats";
             rds_json on;
         }
     }
  }
I'm actually using it... (and planning to use for much deeper things tho).

lewaldman··on We Have Luxurious Jobs but We Are Not Aware of It
And when one of the things that you enjoy more is the IT/Infra/Dev work that you do?

Them you should deserve a very nice home office, with all the monitors, computing power that you would want, and, of course, a remote job to enjoy all that! ;)
