leojg··on Making and Selling a Stair-Climbing Dolly
Sorry, what's the revolutionizing about this? Not do disappoint you but my mother already has a cart with those 3 tiny wheels and she uses it to buy groceries every day. In fact she bought it at least 3 years ago.
leojg··on China prepares mission to land spacecraft on moon's far side
I really like the Chinese approach to space exploration. They go slow but steady and focus on interesting stuff.
leojg··on Ask HN: Best Place in Latin America to Be a Digital Nomad
In terms of connectivity and living expenses three are more or less equal.

As an Uruguayan I would say that Montevideo is nice, but there is not much natural beauty around, the same for Buenos Aires, but Santiago is in the foot of the Andes, so in that it has more to see.

Also Montevideo is quieter than Buenos Aires but Santiago is much more well organized than both. And the only one that don't have a metro train system, so the public transport consists only on buses that get quite crowded on rush hours.

leojg··on Ask HN: Which non-programming books are a beneficial read for programmers?
+1 for the Stormlight Archives I would add the rest of Brandon Sanderson Cosmere books:

Mistborn Trilogies Warbreaker Elantris etc.

leojg··on Ask HN: Why aren’t ‘team retrospectives’ a thing in ‘traditional’ industries?
We do scrum(sort of) and the last retro I had was last year... so, not only in "traditional" industries
leojg··on We'll pay you $3000/mo to build your startup on Dark

leojg··on Stock and Bond Markets Dethroned: Private Fundraising Is Now Dominant
Public companies tend to focus on making money instead of innovation?

They become slaves of their quarter reports and lose the ability of investing in long term projects?

Maybe a bit exaggerated? :D

leojg··on Ask HN: How do you find freelance work?
Glad you like it :)

I understand, thanks for the answer

leojg··on Ask HN: How do you find freelance work?
Hey, I checked you site, great work!

Only issue for me is that you only support stripe for payments and is not available in my country, Uruguay.

Why is that? Why not leave the payment chanel free? Or use paypal or something else?

leojg··on YouTube and Reddit roll out new restrictions including channel and sub bans
The issue here is that the internet consist basically in monopolies. Its even more alarming when you consider that many of those monopolies are in the hands of just one company. (Google)
leojg··on Why Is Giving Birth So Hard? Revisiting the 'Obstetrical Dilemma'
This is true, at least in my country there is a high amount of C-sections and studies show that most of them are done for the money.
leojg··on Ubuntu 17.10: Return of the Gnome
Because of the big toolbar? When I first saw it I assumed it would be mobile oriented.
leojg··on Theories of civilisational ‘collapse’ grow less convincing when scrutinised
This article confuses civilization with culture, you probably can't have the first without the latter. but culture by itself won't do great public works, wont even develop a written language.

Civilization means cohesion to a greater level than a mere culture.

leojg··on Android Oreo
Isn't his device the nearest near device to him?
leojg··on Bing/yahoo/duckduckgo are gaining on Google?
The problem I have with ddg is that their non english and local searches are lacking. Those are the only reasons why I stick with google.

Anywats, I used to use ddg for english non location dependant queries for a while

leojg··on AMD Ryzen 3 1300X and Ryzen 3 1200 CPU Review

leojg··on Successful Solo Founders
For what I know Bezos was a wall street worker, probably wealthy but no near millionaire. He borrowed 30k from his dad to start amazon.
leojg··on Jeff Bezos Surpasses Bill Gates as World's Richest Person
Yeah! He makes money! Such an asshole.
leojg··on Ask HN: How can I sell my hacker house business?
Hehe yes, I didn't remember the term in english, in my country a pension gives you a bed sometimes shared and sometimes on a private room but no food, but they have a kitchen where you can cook.

Anyways from what the OP describes his business is much more intensive and involved with his guests.

leojg··on Ask HN: How can I sell my hacker house business?
What is the difference with a hostel or a pension? For what I understand this is just that but with a fancy name
leojg··on Volvo signals 'end of the solely combustion engine-powered car'
why not both? hydrogen cells seems to me as a great tech with a lot of potential.

They can be used in situations where electrical chargers are not avaiable.

leojg··on CIA Targeting Linux Users With OutlawCountry Network Traffic Re-Routing Tool
Probably young linux enthusiast Billy, who switched from windows a week ago because a friend installed him ubuntu, he went into some random internet forum and copy pasted a bunch of commands on the little black(or redish?) and white screen to improve "performance"
leojg··on Chinese companies building numerous overseas coal plants
I believe that renewable is the solution, more so now that the price has become viable. My country for example went from being oil dependant to produce energy to be almos 100% renewable in less than 5 years by building hundreds of eolic turbines.

But we have a small population and our economy is stable, there are other places where we can not expect to do this.

leojg··on Chinese companies building numerous overseas coal plants
Totally agree. As a citizen of a not (so) developed country I saw all this complains as hypocritical thinking from the developed nations that for centuries did the same but now that the rest of the world tries to catch up start crying.
leojg··on Ask HN: What are some good practices on remote work?
This stuff seems like utopy to me. Here if my machine gets f* I have to ask for a replace and setup everything again, losing at least a day :(
leojg··on Advantages of a refurbished computer against Used Computer
A refubrished computer can be of two types:

It was used as an exposition device in a store, so it's "new" but with some wear of being turned on all day, etc. When is removed from display it is checked and if everything works fine it is put on sale.

Or it's a returned device that had some faulty component that has been replaced.

The advantages compared with an used device is that refubrished are more or less "new" and have warranty.

leojg··on How we invented new ways to teach Japanese
I agree, I think that an online course on its own is not enought to really learn a language, I view them more as a vocabulary and grammar source.

The context or everyday interactions have to be learned in some other place like forums, conversations, movies, etc
