le-flaneur··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
Slowly putting my photography online again at https://flaneurphoto.com - in the middle of composing soundscapes for some of the works.

Finally getting around to organising my photo archive and setting up a metadata extraction pipeline that makes sense for me.

(At the day job, curious about adapting app layouts to accommodate the iPhone Duo and address the various Android foldables at the same time, too).

Simple and does what it says on the tin. Nice!
le-flaneur··on My brand new digitizing workflow using a 25 year old film scanner
I've been using a Coolscan 8000 and a 2007 iMac for 17 years (prior to that, I used a Mac Mini for a short while) and only last year had to replace the scanner motherboard after an international move. To continue to use Nikon's software, the iMac is still on 10.6 Snow Leopard.

I shoot 35mm and medium format and the Coolscan pulls extraordinary detail from the negatives - vastly better than the best flatbed scanners I've ever used.

One of my favourite cameras. Used the 645 + 645NII for years.

Autofocus really helps mitigate my poor vision.

Is there a good resource about Arabic typography for non-Arabic-speaking designers and developers?
le-flaneur··on Artificial intelligence is being used to predict gambler behaviour
The article had VERY little to say about AI. Nothing described in the piece is anything more than what physical/online retailers, Amazon, Facebook, et al do to retain customers and drive sales.
le-flaneur··on Ask HN: What old, discontinued desktop software do you still run?
NikonScan scanner software for their professional negative/slide scanners (I have a Coolscan 8000).

It’s free, does a superb job and excellent for batch scanning. Never took to the alternatives, so it still has a place on an older iMac.
