lazlee··on What AI developers could learn from Charles Bukowski?
"Fuck AI! Just drink."
lazlee··on Weird Nonfiction
I was hoping for an article about actual weird non-fiction or "creative nonfiction", unfortunately the author focuses on fiction pretending to be nonfiction which at the end of the day, is still fiction. His label of what he calls "weird nonfiction" is seriously misused here.
lazlee··on What it's like to dissect a cadaver (2022)
While scrolling, I misread that as - "What it's like to dissect a cab driver" - and was like, huh?

I guess it's time to renew the prescription for my reading glasses.

lazlee··on My daughter (7 years old) used HTML to make a website

lazlee··on My daughter (7 years old) used HTML to make a website

Great job, Naya.

lazlee··on 'The Egyptian Book of the Dead' Review: An Ancient Guide to the Afterlife
My favorite translation of the Book of the Dead is Awakening Osiris by Normandi Ellis. Not a literal translation but a reinterpretation of the original text Truly beautiful and full of spirit.
lazlee··on Which Writers Will We Remember?
You under estimate the lasting power of a good ghost story.

You need a good example? Edgar Allan Poe.

lazlee··on Which Writers Will We Remember?
I hate to say it ... Stephen King.
lazlee··on Glykon, was an ancient snake god
Alan Moore's deity of choice.
lazlee··on New Sony Walkman music player
Cool. It's been so long since they disappeared in my neck of the woods that I have stopped looking. I'll check this out. Thanks.
lazlee··on New Sony Walkman music player
I second that. I'm a commercial painter and more then once I've had my sansa mp3 player fall into a paint bucket. Fish it out, clean it up and the damn things just kept on working. Instant brand loyalty after that. Shame they stopped making them.
lazlee··on Occupational Hazards of the Second-Hand Book Trade
Oh, I didn't know amazon had bought them out. The whole project was first developed by a local second hand bookstore here on Vancouver island.
lazlee··on Occupational Hazards of the Second-Hand Book Trade
I've never used discog but abebooks.com might be like what you are describing.
lazlee··on Godot Engine Release Management: 4.0 and beyond
Godot Engine Game Development in 24 Hours, Sams Teach Yourself: The Official Guide to Godot 3.0

Which I believe is co-written by one of the founding devs.

lazlee··on Cybersickness Could Spell an Early Death for the Metaverse
I support the idea of vr tech but do I want to be nickel and dimed to death in Zuckerberg's mall-tee-verse. Nope. Not a chance. I hope the venture ruins meta taking fb, and zuck down with it.
lazlee··on Bruce Willis Sells Deepfake Likeness Rights So His 'Twin' Can Star in Movies
Now launching: make Bruce Willis act, sing and dance by simply entering text into our new AI created text to film generator.
lazlee··on Slab City reaches its boiling point
Yeah, I'm old and on a mobile phone but goddamn that is some tiny, awful colored, hard to read font.
lazlee··on W4 Games formed to strengthen Godot ecosystem
Yup, just googled. My bad. Ill show myself out - no need to call security. :-)
lazlee··on W4 Games formed to strengthen Godot ecosystem
Oh. I was sure I saw a talk by it's creator saying he used Godot. Pardon me, if that was wrong
lazlee··on W4 Games formed to strengthen Godot ecosystem
Baba is You
lazlee··on Replayability in game design
The quickest way to kill replay ability in games: cut scenes that you can not skip.

If the player has seen the scene once, there should always be the option to skip it.

lazlee··on Hollywood doesn’t make movies like ‘The Fugitive’ anymore (2018)
I love PKD but having read most of the biographical material about him and a large chunk of his exegesis ( a journal that he kept after experiencing a break with reality late in his life) I'd put my money on deeply patanoid, mentally ill individual.

But god bless him, he certainly did leave us with some marvelous tales designed to make us question the world around us and ourselves.

lazlee··on How James Patterson became the world’s best-selling author
One summer I got stuck in the back woods of Alberta with nothing to read but a plastic grocery bag filled with James Patterson novels. I read everything in that bag and not for one second did I believe one word of anything that he had written. Gawd, what an awful experience. I'll never read another book by that lame ass hack again.
lazlee··on Poll: Are you going to leave Twitter after Musk's acquisition?
Dude is probably trying to get Musk on the phone right now.
lazlee··on Poll: Are you going to leave Twitter after Musk's acquisition?
That you still believe there is truth in anything that Trump says is absolutely mind boggling. Given the chance, Fat Boy would be back on twitter in a heartbet.
lazlee··on Poll: Are you going to leave Twitter after Musk's acquisition?
If he replatforms Trump or brings in fb-esque name transparency (ie real names only) then I'm out. Till then it's lets wait and see.
lazlee··on How can I get my boyfriend to stop digging his tunnel?
Dude, the first rule of tunnel club ...
lazlee··on Michelle Yeoh, martial arts and the multiverse: inside the year’s wildest movie
Saw it last weekend and loved it but still can't decide how much. Swiss Army Man was basically a screwball comdedy filmed like an art movie so when the wtf moments happen they stood out as WTF? Everywhere is very comic booky (almost too comic booky for my likeing) and it contains just as many wtf moments (if not more) but because of it's comic book nature the wtf stuff doesn't stand out as sharply as it did in Swiss Army Man. It all kinda blends into one big ball of crazy. Nonetheless, still lots of fun, lots of laughs.
lazlee··on Ask HN: Is Facebook Dying?
God, I hope so.
lazlee··on Tell HN: I let my 6-year-old daughter design my website
