lastUsername··on How I'm able to take notes in mathematics lectures using LaTeX and Vim
It is scientifically proven that handwriting is better for your memory because it forces you to process the material more than note taking on a laptop.

lastUsername··on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Rise Like a ‘Speeding Freight Train’ in 2018
Exactly, China emissions are also the result of European and American companies producing products in China for all the world.

lastUsername··on Bayer to retire Monsanto name
Read the second part of the message and you will understand that the first part is ironic.
lastUsername··on Sucking carbon dioxide from air is cheaper than scientists thought
"The Paris Agreement’s inclusion of 1.5°C has catalysed fervent activity amongst many within the scientific community keen to understand what this more ambitious objective implies for mitigation. However, this activity has demonstrated little in the way of plurality of responses. Instead there remains an almost exclusive focus on how future ‘negative emissions technologies’ (NETs) may offer a beguiling and almost free “get out of jail card”. This presentation argues that such a dominant focus, evident for 2 and 1.5°C, reveals an endemic bias across much of the academic climate change community determined to voice a politically palatable framing of the mitigation landscape – almost regardless of scientific credibility."

Please read: https://kevinanderson.info/blog/duality-in-climate-science/

The problem here is cultural, not scientific.

Real science about climate change is not politically palatable, NETs represent an easy way out.

lastUsername··on Home Depot stocked shelves with empty boxes in its early days
It was a standard practice to have empty boxes shops in the communist block. The reason was the same, but it was a structural and permanent one.
lastUsername··on Bayer to retire Monsanto name
This is true. But, unlike Monsanto, that's not what you think first when you hear Bayer.

That's a fundamental difference.

lastUsername··on Bayer to retire Monsanto name
Good marketing move, Monsanto has a very bad doppelganger.

If they continue with Monsanto ethic it will not take too long to have that doppelganger attached to Bayer.

lastUsername··on EU Proposes to Ban Plastic Straws, Stirs, and Cotton Buds
We need to eliminate all the single use plastic objects. This is a good first step.
lastUsername··on What Did Ancient Romans Do Without Toilet Paper?
I stopped used toilet paper 2 years ago. I just use a bidet, water and the right soap are much more gentle and you are cleaner.

It's a win win.
