Not good.

Ursula sounds like a selfish cnut, too.

What dehumanizing stereotype did you read?

I suspect the reason what I wrote is hard for you to read, and elicits that reaction in you to find some story that might contradict my statement, is because people need to think of themselves as good people. It's too much of a cognitive dissonance and shameful to think otherwise.

May we teach our children the only thing that truly matters is how we regard the dignity of people.

I find most successful Americans I meet are so self-obsessed they are left with an incredibly low capacity for empathy for those in lower classes than them. Wild how they think they are so different than Nazis.

I won’t touch Meta models. I simply don’t trust or like Zuck and especially Wang
lasky··on AI Has No Wisdom and Neither Will You
We are teaching machines to do the work.

Capital always prefers machines.

lasky··on NASA’s Mars Sample Return mission is dead
This article reads like self-pity propaganda from the institutions and scientists who benefited from the old NASA funding model and now see that model being dismantled.

The underlying program was in trouble. NASA had already concluded before Isaacman took over that the existing Mars Sample Return architecture had become a roughly $8–11 billion project with samples potentially not reaching Earth until around 2040.

So yes: NASA killed the bloated $11B / 2040 version of Mars Sample Return.

Isaacman is pushing NASA’s Mars program toward cheaper, faster, modular missions, greater use of commercial spacecraft and launch providers, and infrastructure that can support both science and eventual human exploration.

That makes the “NASA is abandoning Mars science” framing fake news. NASA is abandoning a specific, extremely expensive architecture.

Isaacman has explicitly left open the possibility of retrieving Perseverance’s samples through a different approach.

The real question is to what extent the new model will actually deliver the samples faster and for dramatically less money.

who cares. AI will translate brain waves to binary within 5 years.
lasky··on iPhone Duo
big milestone. the iPhone design engineering group might be one of the most hardcore and intense engineering orgs in modern technology.

lasky··on AI, Tools and Transformation
AI will make the asset holders more productive and profitable.

It will raise the level of personal agency + stable family resources required to avoid crises and homelessness.

Society will increasingly organize around preventing class warfare.

lasky··on Why Young Men Are Abandoning the Workforce
50% of new jobs created in the last year are "pink-collar" aka healthcare, social services.

lasky··on OpenAI’s head of ethics leaves less than a year after joining
Ethics… at OpenAI…

The same company that refuses to acknowledge that it let its own greed and temptation to own the entire economy abandon its non-profit Manhattan Project? At the expense of disrupting the economic well being of 95% of humanity?

lasky··on Mark Zuckerberg attacks 'closed' AI rivals as Meta returns to open models
Mark is not doing this for the money or power.

Mark genuinely cares about your mental health.

He does not want to rewire your brain to be dependent on his models, like he did with FB/IG.

We can see it in his empathic eyes.

lasky··on Ask HN: Do we even need code anymore?
I like this analogy. But am having trouble applying it here.

switchboards? gone.

horses? still around but basically entertainment.

handmade clothes? luxury good.

Each and every one of us has a software factory at home. Wild!

Does it even make sense to call it software anymore ? It’s basically liquidware.

lasky··on Ask HN: Do we even need code anymore?
not me.
lasky··on Ask HN: Do we even need code anymore?
Yes.

If all you need is a comprehensive suite of evals / unit tests to determine if something functions correctly, and AI can quickly figure out how to change it so you get to the end result, then... seems like we won't need all these programming languages.

lasky··on Ask HN: I'm lost. How can I define ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)?
Ask Claude what customers have this same problem and not solving it is costing them money
lasky··on Ask HN: Do we even need code anymore?
why can't AI solve that too?
lasky··on Ask HN: Has anyone replaced Claude/GPT with a local model for daily coding?

claude code in CLI with codex CLI plugin. /remote-env when I'm out

lasky··on You weren't meant to have a boss (2008)
I think it's about how much agency you need/want your job to give you in that specific moment/season of your life.

starting a business is agency-maxxing.

you trade that in when you're an employee for some amount of perceived economic safety. at least, that's supposed to be the deal. that's harder to come by these days.
