lasc4r··on John McAfee found dead in Spanish jail after court approves extradition to US
I suspect all of the drugs are pretty popular in Russia.
lasc4r··on Earth Has a 27.5M-Year 'Heartbeat', but We Don't Know What Causes It
Maybe not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Density_wave_theory
lasc4r··on America’s bald eagle population continues to soar
Eagles eat the dead cows on our farm. As I understand it from 1 minute of google searching Turkeys do not partake of dead flesh. Much more gentlemanly if you ask me.
lasc4r··on Ethereum Isn't Fun Anymore
So the killer use case is a scheme to avoid capital gains taxes? Sounds about right.
lasc4r··on Uber discovered they’d been defrauded out of 2/3 of their ad spend
>One could argue that advertising for large brands with name recognition could be less valuable.

It is without a doubt, and this is what the Freakonomics advertising episodes are mostly about.

lasc4r··on Moderna Covid vaccine candidate almost 95% effective, trials show
You sound like a child. No one is panicking, the problem is it's killing people and hospitalizing even more people to the point of overrunning hospitals.
lasc4r··on Moderna Covid vaccine candidate almost 95% effective, trials show
>Have you ever heard of anyone catching diphtheria?

Nope, I wonder why.

lasc4r··on What Impossible Meant to Feynman
I imagine during a regular class he was Professor Feynman, during Physics X he was just Dick Feynman.
lasc4r··on Farms, More Productive Than Ever, Are Poisoning Drinking Water in Rural America
They can negotiate better prices for the feed they buy as well. Or they just own a feed supplier. That's by far the largest single operating cost they have to deal with.
lasc4r··on Denmark to ban petrol and diesel car sales by 2030
Cherry picking isn't really needed, infrastructure and health care are a disaster here.

edit: For some perspective, there are 240,000 water main breaks every year in the US, wasting over 2 trillion gallons of treated drinking water.

lasc4r··on Facebook Gave Device Makers Deep Access to Data on Users and Friends
I've been reading studies about how facebook makes you depressed for years. Facebook may have had a golden age around the time of the Arab spring, is that the narrative you're referring to?
lasc4r··on Seaweed in Cow Feed Reduces Methane Emissions Almost Entirely
I believe grass fed cattle produce more methane actually.
lasc4r··on Rural Kansas is dying
That sounds highly infeasible.
lasc4r··on The Quest for the Next Billion-Dollar Color
Or they didn't realize they were ever exposed to toxins, and they just think they got moody over time or that poor memory they have is normal aging.
lasc4r··on Democracy Index 2016
this is almost as bad as a strongly worded internet comment.
lasc4r··on There’s a Global Race to Control Batteries–and China Is Winning
Interesting perspective, but they are a growing global power and still growing quickly. They might actually have a more effective government than western style democracies, but I hope that's not the case. It will be interesting to see what this century hold for China compared to India.
lasc4r··on Ending Bitcoin Support
That's 25 million per hour, we must have very different definitions of what a small city is.
lasc4r··on Regarding the NiceHash security breach
Bitcoin transactions are done on a distributed ledger that everyone can see. 4700BTC went from NiceHash -> Hacker
lasc4r··on More Than a Million Pro-Repeal Net Neutrality Comments Were Likely Faked
The 37% is accurate for peak usage. What makes it more complicated to measure is that Netflix and Google have private networks, CDNs that are uploading all of that data during peak usage, which is much closer to the user geographically. They've basically spent billions of dollars to unclog the internet backbone already.
lasc4r··on Amazon, Facebook and Google can all be beaten
If I had a hot dog cart and sold $500 worth of hot dogs, but the hot dogs cost me $100, to me, that's not making $500.
lasc4r··on Amazon, Facebook and Google can all be beaten
is "making per day" profit or revenue?
lasc4r··on How does a site find you are behind a VPN?
My best guesses are that there are patterns that pop up from the IP addresses of VPN connected users that give it away. Weird devices, weird timezones, the more popular the website the more people from the VPN will be connecting and the more obvious it will be from the sheer numbers.

But those VPN IPs are not secret, if I can download a list from of damn near every internet ad server and block the vast majority of ads, it wouldn't surprise me is there was a list out there of VPN IPs.

lasc4r··on Used GPUs flood the market as Ethereum's price drops below $150
Yeah I was just checking this myself, nothing great there. I did look to see what my 1070 was selling for recently at various online sites. Looks like they did spike in value starting in June, going from $380 to $500 and being sold at fewer places.

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fKp323/msi-geforce-gtx-1070...

In a couple weeks maybe prices will be back to normal or even drop lower.

lasc4r··on The Boring Company [video]
We need some solar frickin' roadways!
lasc4r··on How Juicero's Story Set the Company Up for Humiliation
Same meaning in the US, at least for me.
lasc4r··on Wall Street's Frantic Push to Hire Coders
Did you get the job?
lasc4r··on A Man Who Stood Up To Facebook
Pretty sure more than 1% of Muslims don't completely reject ISIS. Definitely not Al Qaida.
