lambdaba··on Four causes for 'Zoom fatigue' (2021)
The Fridman - Zuckerberg VR interview really convinced me of this, if you haven't seen it, check it out, it's incredible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVYrJJNdrEg
lambdaba··on Alcohol-free booze is becoming big business
the liver makes glucose (called gluconeogenesis), this happens regardless of diet
lambdaba··on Alcohol-free booze is becoming big business
There is no biological requirement for dietary carbohydrates.
lambdaba··on Alcohol-free booze is becoming big business
Carbohydrates are not biologically required in the diet.

There is, I recently read about the enormous quantities of alcohol that the average American drank in the 1800s. They didn't live as long (but not by that much, considering they didn't have modern medicine), but they were physically active, had healthier social ties, and weren't exposed to the myriad of other poisons most of us are nowadays.

Just curious - why is this flagged?

There is a recommended upper limit, your comment makes it sound like sugar is a requirement. I think some people might still believe you "need" sugar, I certainly grew up with that notion.

The edge that functional languages give you is expressiveness, the more complexity you have in the business logic, the more that compounds.
lambdaba··on One surprising psychosis treatment that works: Learning to live with the voices
That's amazing, congrats!

I've also come to believe a mix of metabolic therapy and targeted supplementation (particularly B vitamins, chiefly B3), yields much better results than medications. And it seems the medical profession is slowly waking up to it too.

lambdaba··on Oldest known wild bird lays egg at 74
There is a lot of low quality chicken, both fish and chicken have very little fat. And their fatty acid profile is not ideal.
lambdaba··on Oldest known wild bird lays egg at 74
No, there are people following a leaner version of the diet who have no such issues. I eat moderate protein though (80-100g).
lambdaba··on Oldest known wild bird lays egg at 74
Only beef, it's a variant of the carnivore diet that excludes common autoimmune triggers, like eggs & dairy.
lambdaba··on Oldest known wild bird lays egg at 74
Same here bro/sis, eating only beef was transformative for autoimmune issues I had for years. There was simply no alternative that would give me a good quality of life, just heavy medication with awful side effects.
lambdaba··on Firefox Is the Superior Browser
how do they compare? I have TST set up exactly how I want but I'm open to new options
lambdaba··on Firefox Is the Superior Browser
true, I only wish Firefox could bridge some of the performance gap, but frankly, it's pretty fine as it is

- Firefox Sync is much better than Safari/Chrome options, you can close tabs remotely, sending tabs is instantaneous and never fails (Chrome IME was flaky)

- as the article mentions, a lot of mobile addons, including Stylus and the *Monkey userscript addons, I have cloud sync set up for both and it's nice to have userscripts running on all platforms

- Tree Style Tabs is still the best UI for managing tabs in any browser I've used

- browser UI customization via userChrome.css file, and user.js for persistent about:config flags, every time you set up a new Chrome profile, have to set up flags manually

- it's fast (enough), ironically I switched from Chrome after I started have inexplicable slowdowns that I couldn't solve by disabling extensions or a new profile, since the Manifest V2 moment was upon us, I took the opportunity to give Firefox a try again

lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
rates of cancer are going up in younger people nowadays
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
this is even counter to mainstream medical opinion
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
same here! Thanks for bringing up memories of sugar grapefruit. My parents' generation used to sugar their strawberries...
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth
Obviously yes, so is most chronic disease, but bring up people being healed by lifestyle & diet intervention and prepare for relentless attacks from both doctors and laypeople.
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
Okay, but the parent was implying that would discredit the interviewee. One thing I've observed with people that have an important message to disseminate is they are not fussy about what the medium is
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
what a dumb remark, what does it matter who the host is
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
everywhere, cancer & chronic disease rates go up as diets get westernized

> minimizing red meat

could you provide the evidence that convinced you that red meat is detrimental to health?

lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
I'm sorry about your parent.

I didn't mean to dunk on Steve Jobs, but I'm sure even he would agree he had an eccentric and extremist personality and the bit about fruitarianism seems very relevant esp with happenings like [Ashton Kutcher being hospitalized when he tried to mimick it](https://www.theguardian.com/film/2013/jan/28/ashton-kutcher-...)

relevant quote:

> "First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to, like, severe issues," Kutcher told USA Today. "I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was like doubled over in pain. My pancreas levels were completely out of whack. It was really terrifying … considering everything."

lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
I doubt modern fruit, optimized for sweetness, has a very favorable vitamin-mineral/fructose ratio.
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
He didn't just eat some fruit, he ate ONLY fruit and JUICED it. He MEGADOSED on fruit.
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
"Not much evidence"? That is so far from the truth.
lambdaba··on Fructose in diet enhances tumor growth: research
He was following "fruitarianism" on and off even before his diagnosis, I think it's reasonable to suspect it had something to do with his cancer, but I wasn't aware of those details, so thanks for providing them.
