Keep it up Andreas and don’t give up ever , your story is inspiring to many.
la6471··on Google’s 80-acre megacampus will take over a chunk of San Jose
After all the WFH we did and the highest ever revenue or productivity experienced by these companies , I wonder what deep logic entices upper management to encourage more in-campus working vs remote working? Have we not experienced enough devastation in the last one year or more to seriously consider more sustainable options in the long term?
la6471··on Five Oregon counties vote to leave state, create 'Greater Idaho'
Yes they can vote to leave the state but they should also not get any of the tax dollars from the more densely populated counties that stay behind. Thank you , Sayonara!
la6471··on Five Oregon counties vote to leave state, create 'Greater Idaho'
Yes they can vote to leave the state but they should also not get any of the tax dollars from the more densely populated counties that stay behind. Thank you , sayonara!
la6471··on Last year, more people in San Francisco died of overdoses than of Covid-19
If you see it up close and personal the devastation that COVID can bring , you would probably also be over-cautions too.
la6471··on The OODA Loop: How Fighter Pilots Make Fast and Accurate Decisions
Unfortunately people bring this hyper competitive mentality in meetings and other situations where collaboration would be more beneficial than competition. I am specifically referring to the impulse some people have in making quick decisions without due diligence , just to stay in charge or for other ulterior motives. And when the majority acts like that more reasonable voices gets drowned in the din. While heathy competition is good we also need to be vigilant about not taking it too far to the point where we lose the way.

la6471··on An experiment in giving cash to recently homeless people [video]
Please consider sharing more when you can. Also please reach out to all the government run programs to get all the help you can. At least that way the taxpayers money is put to good use. And don’t give up.
la6471··on Flexible working shows 55% high performers compared to 36% for 40 hours/week
Yes what matters is productivity. It is better than sitting 8 hours in your miserable cube in the office , spend 2 hours in commute and get stressed at that and not able to focus properly and churning out low quality code than you can do in 4 hours of quality focused time.
la6471··on Finding new species in the Western Ghats
Beautiful
la6471··on A 25-Year-Old Bet Comes Due: Has Tech Destroyed Society?
“ But Sale, who for years had been churning out books complaining about modernity and urging a return to a subsistence economy” - from the FA. While certainly modernity and technological progress has negative impact on certain parts of the human population (being in part blamed for societal isolation etc) , for the majority of human population technological advances has been a great leveler and a blessing. Over the last decade this has raised billions of people out of property line and in general increased the health and lifespan of most of the population. Even advanced societies like us have benefitted from it , though there is some negative effect. But to lobby for dialing back technological progress for the entire humanity - it is a very symptom of inequality that has been the result of industrial revolution and previous history and the privilege that certain societies enjoyed over others. We need to use technology itself to level the playing field , ensure wellness and happiness for everyone. What Sale and his fans need is not less technology but more looking inside - spiritual journey. But they have no right to demand policies to reverse technological progress for rest of the humanity.

la6471··on Chemotherapy with light; only one injection required
It’s really great. Hope it is soon available worldwide.
la6471··on Judge refuses to reinstate Parler after Amazon shut it down
It’s really simple. I can decide to do business with you or decide not to do business with you. Also I don’t understand what is preventing Parler from simply hosting a forum? Unless it is because none of the hosting companies want them? So that is it. Let’s stop regurgitating on this forever. Let’s move on.
la6471··on QAnon Is Destroying the GOP from Within
No , what we need is basic common sense. Too much of anything is bad and as a nation we have a historical tendency to take things to extreme. We need to understand and acknowledge each other’s point of view and realize there is a sane middle path based on due diligence and rational investigation.
la6471··on Do You Love Me? [video]
Did you read the comments on the YouTube video itself? Outside this techie HN bubble the real world people think of these robots dancing on their jobs anr lifeless bodies. Forget your home countries , but this is how most people in USA thinks about the technological progress as well. And on top of that I am wondering when AI will be parsing these YouTube comments in another 10 years it will just interpret the massive hate that the YouTube comments show for robots and AI and don’t be surprised if it sends some rouge instructions to these robots to annihilate human beings in self defense. It sounds like a absurd joke I know but for some reason it seems to me one of the many possibilities.
la6471··on Can a Worker-Owned App Pull Drivers from Uber and Lyft?
To compete with apps like Uber and Lyft you have to continuously add features , scale and be reliable. While producing an app similar in function to Uber is quite possible , I think the biggest hurdle comes from adoption of the app and continuous iteration at the speed of Uber.
la6471··on Amazon disallows pointing out paid reviews
Can you please post the link of the webcam here with the paid reviews.
la6471··on Elon Musk moves to Texas
Except that the man himself made some comments to let others know he is not happy with California not bending over backwards to his whim.
la6471··on The Tragic Tale of DEC, the Computing Giant That Died Too Soon
The article had good Chronological data in form of DEC’s history but the analysis of its epic fall , falls short of a well researched article. However the subsequent HN discussion is just awesome.
