l8rlump··on HP LaserJet Tank – Refillable laser printer
Or, if you're HP, you market something that seems like the best of both worlds, and then gouge the value in two years with a firmware update, and/or shenanigans with consumables.

That's what I expect with the machine in the OP.

l8rlump··on HP LaserJet Tank – Refillable laser printer
I'd love to read more about this!
l8rlump··on HP LaserJet Tank – Refillable laser printer
Feel free to provide it if/when you can.

On Linux I use Postscript with a PPD from https://www.canon.com.au/support/sims-content?pid=e3b6d5519f...

Most Canons also understand PCL6 too. I guess you've checked your own machine though.

Embedded Web Services / EWS is their name for their web configuration interface. I don't think it has anything to do with GP's concerns.

l8rlump··on How fast is 12th Gen Intel Core?
I haven't made the switch yet as my old Lenovo is still hanging on. Would you mind expanding on your gripes with MacOS, in particular the comment about responsiveness?
l8rlump··on New MacBook Air with M2
Sorry if I missed it, but I was sure they would have introduced touch screens along with M2. Normally I don't care for touch, but surely it would be good for running iOS apps more seamlessly.
l8rlump··on Raspberry Pico-based 100-Msps logic analyzer
This is great. Is there some tutorial of this caliber for Pico's PIOs?
l8rlump··on What happened to the lab-leak hypothesis?
Hi. Re (1), did anything ever come of the story about the scientist who discovered some of the deleted genetic sequences on Google Cloud (https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/23/science/coronavirus-seque...)?

> for whatever reason taking the supplement seems to work better than exposing yourself to sunlight

On the other hand, this was an interesting read recently:

l8rlump··on Show HN: An open source alternative to Evernote (Self Hosted)
I'd like to try this but it seems that there are limited options to import from Onenote. As far as I can tell, you can either try converting to markdown with an older version of Evernote (IIRC with limitations such as text formatting being lost), or use one of a few users' hacky solutions involving Pandoc. Is there an easier/better way?
l8rlump··on Inkscape 1.2 released
This is the obligatory post suggesting Affinity Designer.

It also appears they're running a 50% off sale:

(No affiliation. I just notice it comes up in a lot of conversations here about Inkscape)

l8rlump··on When buying the dip doesn’t work: An analysis of the dot-com crash
Anyone have any book recommendations for learning economics?
l8rlump··on Reversing hearing loss with regenerative therapy
I think I've read something about the brain being able to use harmonics of the frequencies in question to "reconstruct" what's lacking. IIRC this is how Waves MaxBass works. This could be an added effect of your tube gear, which will be generating more harmonic content.
l8rlump··on AltWinDirStat
Quite a bit more charming than Neuwinderstadt.

l8rlump··on Cat Printer
I don’t see much reference to “BPA free” anymore. Why is that?
l8rlump··on Show HN: Wordle over DNS
May I ask what is your favourite site for playing Wordle in Danish? I know someone who would enjoy that.
l8rlump··on Still-active phreak numbers, all safe and free
In Australia back in the day, you could dial 199 on a pay phone which was the ring back number. Hang up, let it ring twice and then answer it. If you did it right there would be a warbling tone in the earpiece and you could then make any call for free.
l8rlump··on Ten Years of ThinkPadding
Thanks for introducing me to invidious just now!

I guess the diffusion is a bit like a sub-pixel sized blur, but you can’t reduce reflections in software though.

l8rlump··on Firefox 96
This would explain why, recently when I opened MS Edge, it sucked up all my bookmarks from Firefox and then signed me in to itself using my Microsoft account - all automatically and without my permission.
l8rlump··on Hacking a VW Golf Power Steering ECU
No personal experience, but maybe start with the "mix" playlist from Haltech's YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPjIS9Tg83M&list=RDCMUCU8HZc...
l8rlump··on Hacking a VW Golf Power Steering ECU
I haven't had much luck. Sometimes you can find stuff with a search engine or PM someone on a forum with a similar setup and ask them nicely to share their tune. But it should be said, it can be dangerous to flash configs from random sources to your ECU. I recently also rediscovered this (https://www.totalcardiagnostics.com/toad), which ostensibly "Contains 14,000+ optimized car ECU map files" and software to reflash. No idea on the quality or utility though.

As far as I'm aware for Subarus, Taxtrix Openport 2.0[1] is popular with modders and seems to have good software/workflow. Through this article though I discovered the Panda[2]. It reportedly does J2534 and I wonder if this means it can use the same workflow. The price of the white Panda is attractive.

I'm not sure if Openport is still actively developed. Oh, and stay away from the cheap clones. They're reportedly not good[3][4].

Does anyone have experience with the Pandas for remapping and use as a diagnostic tool?

l8rlump··on Display-switch: Turn a $30 USB switch into a full-featured multi-monitor KVM
Thanks. I also discovered winddcutil, for those of us on Windows with Dell monitors too old to be supported by Dell Display Manager.

l8rlump··on Kodi: An Open Source Home Theater System
I have configured mine to go to file manager when I press 'f' on the keyboard. You may not have a keyboard attached but it might be worth your while.

I've found OSMC to be great, even on RPi2. I tried LibreELEC recently and couldn't get live TV to work acceptably with a USB TV tuner (glitchy). I ended up somewhat going down a rabbit hole of USB isochronous/asynchronous/buffering settings but just went back to OSMC.

You can also use apt to customize OSMC because it's based on Debian[1].

The maintainer, Sam Nazarko seems really helpful too.

l8rlump··on Omicron variant more resistant to vaccine but causes less severe Covid: study
Not the OP, but for me, I'm led to believe that vaccine trials usually go for 7 years, so there's that hesitancy that yes, the sample size is huge, but the normal time hasn't elapsed. Also don't forget that at the beginning of the rollout, the rigour was much less. Thankfully so far so good (depending on who you talk to), but time makes things clearer, and down the road things will be even more clear. Combined with:

* the perceived scaremongering and desperation of some governments and media;

* Being a cancer survivor and not having clear, trustworthy research on effects on this subgroup (they're using genetic instructions to hijack our own cells and produce a foreign protein? That sounds really clever but it also reminds me of cancer)...

alarm bells were ringing, right or wrong. I'd welcome any information that helps with my concerns. It's a genuine wrestle.
