l2silver··on How to write stuff no one else can
I love articles like this. Short, concise, and filled with interesting and unique tips instead of the usual cliche dribble. I particularly loved the outlining of Zack's methods.
l2silver··on How to hire low experience, high potential people
It's easy enough to find high-potential people. The problem is how long they'll stay. If they stay for a couple of years, great, I'll take it. But anything less than that, and you're probably not recuperating the cost of hiring and training them. And the training cost can be extremely high if it involves the time of more experienced employees.
l2silver··on MBAs who can't find jobs
The article mentions MBAs graduating from top schools not being able to find a job in a tough job market, but obviously this problem is as old as time for MBA graduating any given year. One of the issues is that the MBA is a money maker for these universities, so why not graduate as many people as possible.

The other issue is what people expect from these MBA programs. They see it as a way to get career flexibility, but in reality an MBA really opens up two spaces: Consulting, and becoming an executive in the field you're already poised to become an executive in.

Anyone else a bit skeptical?

l2silver··on Ask HN: Oh my god Is anyone on this plane a computer programmer?
Haha, that's amazing. Simple but effective, and not a bad cause either.
l2silver··on My friends who cheated in interviews are getting promoted (2022)
This is gonna be a weak comment because I can't find references, but whatever.

I remember listening to a podcast recently that compared boys and girls in school. The takeaway was that girls generally try to do all of the work, whereas boys were far more likely to take short cuts to success. And this was the reason why boys were doing better in university and afterwards. The conclusion of the podcast was that we should be encouraging girls to try to take the same shortcuts as boys. It's a learned skill to know exactly what needs to be done to get what you want.

Maybe that's what's going on here. Rules, whether we like it or not, can be broken.
