l0nwlf··on How I (almost) got an internship at Google
Lucky him, atleast he got to face tech interviews. As for me I never got the chance to prove myself.

I got my call, was inquired about my projects and current offers by HR and then got a rejection letter next week. After I inquired, it turned out that my low GPA [ 7.03/10.0 ] was the cause. They want academically bright freshers with shining GPAs and with strong CS101 skills.

l0nwlf··on James Gosling joining Google
Ken Thompson, Guido Von Rossum, James Gosling : Good going Google.
l0nwlf··on Small C Projects
To make a Lisp interpreter you need to know Lisp. But I liked the idea of writing a shell.
l0nwlf··on [Follow-up Results] Your favourite text editor/IDE?
As told by the blog author in the comments:

" HTML + CSS3 is Turing complete (github.com) – http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2300836 "

l0nwlf··on 2011 MacBook Pros Crash Under Load
Mine is 2009 model and I have yet to face this issue. Although my Optical drive died this January and it throws out DVDs when inserted but that is the only problem I have faced so far.

EDIT: Was just stating that 2009 MBPs have no such issues IMHO.

l0nwlf··on Angry Birds creator Rovio to IPO in New York?
"Bounce Evolution" is supposedly the best game available on N900. Although N900 itself was never a successful platform but the game had immersive quality, just like Angry Birds.

l0nwlf··on Apple's Role in Japan during the Tohoku Earthquake
Apple did far better then Microsoft atleast.

l0nwlf··on Twitter explains why developers shouldn’t build new clients
Just yesterday I was unable to access twitter from my university. It blocked me by saying something like 'API calls exceeded'. A university have generally a single IP address and thousand of users. What will twitter do about this ?
l0nwlf··on Why Nokia failed: 'Wasted 2,000 man years' on UIs that didn't work
>Nokia has always "gotten" the phone side

True, but my current phone N900 is weaker in terms of a phone. It is a hacker's delight with a real terminal, apt-get etc but the phone experience I never really enjoyed much. My earlier phone N95 was better than this.

l0nwlf··on Why LaTeX is Superior to Office
Just 2 hours back I though of writing my project report in LaTex, but then after 1 hour of tinkering I switched back to MS Office because I needed to get work done today.

May be if I'll have some spare time, I will learn it and write my next report in LaTex.

l0nwlf··on How Facebook plans to bust up the SMS profit cartel
Yes, they do. In India the average price of sending an SMS is 1 rupee, the same as making a call for 60 seconds.

EDIT: Which carrier ? Unless you buy SMS pack, the default rate per SMS is rupee 1. Am talking about Airtel and BSNL. I think the article too mentions this. Quoting it: "The wireless companies all told Kohl's antitrust committee that while the price of individual texts was going up, consumers were paying far less per text by buying huge bundles for flat rates."

l0nwlf··on Why Data Structures Matter: left, right folds, btrees
I highly value "Programming Pearls" by Jon Bentley in this regard. He proposes a problem and then solves it in naive way followed by the right way/ways. I realized the importance of choosing correct data structure for a particular problem from that book.
l0nwlf··on The need to code
Not counting 7 years of GWBASIC on MSDOS, my first experience was with LOGO in class II. REPEAT 360 [FD 1 RT 1] for making a circle, nostalgic. :)

EDIT: Downloaded BASIC from http://www.weihenstephan.org/~michaste/pagetable/recompiler/... and now writing some silly codes.

l0nwlf··on If iPads are “post-pc devices” why must I sync with iTunes before I can use one?
Command-C / Command-V is copy-paste. Also I do use TotalFinder as a finder replacement. :)
l0nwlf··on Python now uses Mercurial
There is a reason Python is paired with Mercurial.

Hg is written in Python. As for why Mercurial was chosen over Bazaar, it came down to popularity. As the core developer survey shows, hg was preferred over bzr.

l0nwlf··on If iPads are “post-pc devices” why must I sync with iTunes before I can use one?
Adding few more.

- No cut-paste.

- No tabs in Finder.

- The missing delete key. (Backspace is renamed as delete)

- The not-so-modern Terminal. (hence the wide usage of iTerm)

l0nwlf··on Libraries in C++ for ACM
You can always bring codes in the form of printouts. And these libraries are mainly for practice problems on ACM UVA Online Judge.
l0nwlf··on Libraries in C++ for ACM
These are standard data structures and algorithms coded in C++. Pretty useful for programming competitions.
l0nwlf··on Indian government blocks Typepad, Mobango and Clickatell
It opens in my office (Bangalore, India).
l0nwlf··on Hardest captcha ever?
Stack Overflow should use a tougher version of it. Will weed out some noise.
l0nwlf··on Algorithms, A Dropbox Challenge and Dynamic Programming
Could you link to those Project Euler problems, where you have been using this code ?
l0nwlf··on Want Better Quality? Fire Your QA Team
But he misjudged that something else (America) with his original destination (India).

Quoting from wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus):

"Amerigo Vespucci's travel journals, published 1502-4, convinced Martin Waldseemüller that the discovered place was not India, as Columbus always believed, but a new continent"

l0nwlf··on The Boy Who Stole Half-Life 2
I wonder why Valve didn't offered him a job. He was naive but talented and passionate about gaming.
l0nwlf··on Is Google A/B testing with Gmail ads?
The odd thing is I haven't seen this "irritating pink ad" in any of my colleague/friends Gmail's inbox. Wonder what may be the reason ?
l0nwlf··on Don't waste your time by cd-ing in the terminal
Silly me. I almost always do the same, but never thought of creating a function. Thanks anyways. :D
l0nwlf··on Don't waste your time by cd-ing in the terminal
Unrelated but a nice alias "tree".

alias tree="find . -name .svn -prune -o -name .DS_Store -prune -o -name .git -prune -o -print | sed -e 's;[^/]*/;|___;g;s;___|; |;g'"

It shows your directory listing in the form of a tree. Easier to visualize.

l0nwlf··on Twitter Suspends UberTwitter And Twidroyd For Violating Policies
> According to Twitter, UberMedia infused twitter streams in their apps with ads.

But what problem should twitter be having ? If public dislike the ads they won't use it probably. If they are doing so, they are probably OK with it. There are lots of ads-free client out there.

l0nwlf··on How to become Batman
I thought Gotham was a fictional city.
l0nwlf··on How to become Batman
> But the real problem is that Batman exists to solve a problem; Gotham has a massive crime problem, way beyond what we see in any major city in the world. And it is a city where number of crime bosses, criminal geniuses and psychopaths exist, and where they can act fairly freely.

Gotham was created for batman IMHO and not vice-versa. If someday batman dies, spiderman won't come from New York for load balancing. Why is that almost all the super-heroes have their arch-enemy in their nearby locality. They also share the same trait. For example spiderman villains are mostly mutants and nagraj villains are mostly snake which takes humanoid form.

l0nwlf··on C++ in Coders at Work
And why should developer bother to know how to deal with pointers ?

And since when does writing "Hello World" in C teaches you how to use pointer and how to deal with it.
