kylelibra··on Ask YC (dang and kogir): How about some transparency?
Does HN have any set community guidelines written out?
kylelibra··on Redesigning the United flight search interface in Photoshop
These redesigns are always nice to look at, but there are usually a lot of functional considerations they ignore.
kylelibra··on How to name your startup in 3 easy steps
This is really solid advice. Here's the Archimedes reference in case you didn't remember it immediately like me: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eureka_(word)
kylelibra··on The New Aaron Swartz Documentary at Sundance
Here's a teaser trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3izOJ7zX5I0
kylelibra··on Engineer: Egyptians built pyramids by piling rubble and attaching bricks later
Questionable source imo.
kylelibra··on Oracle to Amazon: It’s on
Seems like this can only be good for consumers.
kylelibra··on What is it like to be a geek in a prison?
Why would you disable pinchzoom?
kylelibra··on Tim Draper Wants To Split California, Turn Silicon Valley Into Its Own State
The reasons:

1. It is about time California was properly represented with Senators in Washington. Now our number of Senators per person will be about average.

2. Competition is good, monopolies are bad. This initiative encourages more competition and less monopolistic power. Like all competitive systems, costs will be lower and service will be better.

3. Each new state can start fresh. From a new crowd sourced state flower to a more relevant constitution.

4. Decisions can be more relevant to the population. The regulations in one new state are not appropriate for another.

5. Individuals can move between states more freely.

kylelibra··on Bill Gates takes part in Reddit's Secret Santa
How celebrities behave on reddit seems to be a good indication of how they actually are in real life.
kylelibra··on An Engineer’s guide to Stock Options
Good point, so I guess 2* would actually be some sort of factor of your willingness to take risk.
kylelibra··on An Engineer’s guide to Stock Options
Is there a good formula for figuring out taking a lower salary in exchange for options? For example:

.

Current Salary On Open Market = X

Startup Salary = Y

Option Value Today = Z

.

4(X) = 4(Y)+Z(2)

this is obviously the big IF, if people are saying think of it as windfall, maybe 1.5??

kylelibra··on Reddit’s empire is founded on a flawed algorithm
If the same post is at the top of reddit and hackernews at the same time I'm pretty sure the internet implodes and life as we know it comes to an end.
kylelibra··on Poll: How many hours a day are you looking at a screen?
There is functionality for doing polls once you hit a certain karma threshold.
kylelibra··on Rejecting Billions, Snapchat Expects a Better Offer
February 2013 - 60 Million Photos Per Day

November 2013 - 350 Million Photos Per Day

That's some serious growth. Seeing that much growth over a nine month period probably has a huge influence on why they think a better offer will come around.

kylelibra··on American Energy Data Challenge
Getting paid for an idea? It's every MBAs dream come true!
kylelibra··on Things You Should Know About AWS
Surprised it doesn't exist already.
kylelibra··on Wanna buy my startup Buddy Beers?
$40k? Seems steep.
kylelibra··on Workplace Equality Is Good for Business
Tim Cook's point carries over to customers as well. For me, knowing a company is taking a progressive stance on human and civil rights goes a long way towards how I view them.
kylelibra··on Bitbucket Offline
Bitbucket twitter account claims it was a result of routine file maintenance and it has been resolved, but they will continue to monitor: https://twitter.com/bitbucket
kylelibra··on Bitbucket Offline
How long has it been down?

edit: so it looks like it went down between 9:30 and 10 am EST.

kylelibra··on The SaaS Valuation Bubble
I agree with what you're saying. Something needs to be off by much more before I'd personally call it a bubble. Interesting read regardless.
kylelibra··on The SaaS Valuation Bubble
I think the title is a bit misleading, but good points raised and good data to back it up.
kylelibra··on Dems demand refund from ObamaCare website contractors
My understanding is that many of the problems were caused by things forced on the developers.
kylelibra··on Apple Just Cannibalized the MacBook Air
I was kind of wondering about this as well, the line between the smallest low end Macbook Pro and the high end Macbook Air is blurring. Perhaps they will eventually roll all the Macbooks into one product line again?
kylelibra··on Ask HN: How do you store and organize your startup ideas?
Evernote / Trello
kylelibra··on Banksy artwork vandalized in New York
Bystanders beat the guy up after he vandalized it and then they tried their best to restore it: http://gothamist.com/2013/10/17/banksy_bed_stuy.php#photo-1
kylelibra··on TechCrunch Has Redesigned, Again
Personally I think TechCrunch's content is the issue, not the design. Although this design is much improved, I'd also like to see them make some editorial changes. Step in the right direction regardless.
kylelibra··on Show HN: I suck at remembering names, so I built an app to help
Rapportive is another app that people might find useful if they have this sort of problem. It is a plugin for gmail that pulls in social media profiles to attach a name to a face when emailing with someone.

kylelibra··on Poll: How many Bitcoins do you own?
Total bitcoins in existence ~12M

Bitcoins claimed to be owned by people participating in this poll ~35M

kylelibra··on [dead]
This seems like a good way to grow adoption. If more web developers build for Firefox first, it follows that clients/customers/company employees would also be encourage to adopt it.
