kwamenum86··on Twitter Introduces Innovators Patent Agreement
No company in their right mind should sign this. This throws the baby out with the bathwater. There are actually legitimate uses for patents and if you're working on something non-trivial your company might want to (and might even be obligated to in order to do right by shareholders) use the patent offensively.
kwamenum86··on Instagram is "worth" more than the New York Times
Putting the word "worth" in quotes kind of makes this article "worth" nothing, doesn't it?
kwamenum86··on Facebook acquires Instagram
When VCs make money they generally don't reinvest it, which is why they always look for 10x in the long term rather than 2x in the (very) short term.
kwamenum86··on In Manhattan Pizza War, Price of Slice Keeps Dropping
Thanks for sharing. That actually adds a lot of context to the story.
kwamenum86··on Show HN: A Way To Hack HN's Karma
I'm guessing this security hole is a regression because I could have sworn I tried this before. But I don't remember for certain.
kwamenum86··on Show HN: A Way To Hack HN's Karma
Not necessarily. You could make the CSRF request on, for example, 80 percent of the views to make it look legit. You could even take a more sophisticated approach and start by automatically upvoting for 100 percent of logged in users just to get on the front page and dampening once your story rises in the rankings.
kwamenum86··on Aziz Ansari releases DRM-free standup special for $5
Uh no. I've seen Aziz's standup live. I thought it was terrible. But not surprised to see no one else agree - he is really popular with some folks.
kwamenum86··on Man Supposedly Flies With Custom-Built Bird Wings
I was looking at that video too and thinking it doesn't look or feel natural. It's a good trick and actually a good demo. I think the physics are kind of off in the final video though.
kwamenum86··on Aziz Ansari releases DRM-free standup special for $5
Normally, I'm a huge Aziz detractor but I think this has a shot at being more successful than Louis CK's special. I think Aziz is more popular with children of the Internet.
kwamenum86··on Yammer CEO won't hire anyone from Yahoo who doesn't quit in next 60 days
"Engineer won't ever work for Yammer"
kwamenum86··on CSS px is an Angular Measurement
I think the important part is that setting something to be 1000px wide does not mean it will take up 1000 pixels on a 1000 pixel wide screen.
kwamenum86··on Kara Is Self-Aware
Yeah...I know. I'm just saying I found it deeply engaging and if they made a movie out of it I'd watch it.
kwamenum86··on Kara Is Self-Aware
I'd watch that movie. The CG wasn't perfect but it was far from zombie-like. The primary problems were subtle stiffness here and there and a feeling that the words were being lip-synced at certain moments.
kwamenum86··on Google promises a unified social and mobile game platform
My first and only thought is "Google will fuck this up"
kwamenum86··on Square Register
This could be a game changer. Restuarant management software is a space that needs innovation as well - I'd be surprised if they don't roll something out that incorporates both payments and reservations.
kwamenum86··on StackOverflow
That's not evil. Youtube is at the mercy of "big content " and they have to comply with copyright claims. They're not in the business of judging whether a something can be copyrighted - that's a job for the courts.
kwamenum86··on Pushing Files to the Browser Using Delivery.js, Socket.IO and Node.js
"With zip.js files could be deflated, or inflated, within the browser."

That's what gzip is for.

kwamenum86··on Show HN: JavaScript Instagram-like Filters
Cool! It really is an awesome project otherwise. I'll definitely play around with this as some point.
kwamenum86··on Show HN: JavaScript Instagram-like Filters
Web workers are not well-supported yet: http://caniuse.com/#feat=webworkers

The most important omissions from that list are IE < 10. Using web workers if present and falling back on a different strategy are probably the right way to go because web workers will finish more quickly.

kwamenum86··on Show HN: JavaScript Instagram-like Filters
You should rewrite a "pseudo-non-blocking" implementation of these filters. Right now they block the UI thread for too long, which limits how useful these can be. Web workers in one option, although it's not widely supported. The better option is to use setTimout or setInterval to break of the processing work into chunks, which is supported in all browsers. For example, run the loop n iterations then run the next n after a 15 ms delay. The way you've implemented the processing right now makes this lib unsuitable for use on the clientside.
kwamenum86··on Wikipedia's list of lists of lists
Ha. That's actually pretty funny. To state the obvious: that's impossible. If the list omits itself, it's incomplete. It it includes itself, it's invalid.
kwamenum86··on Wikipedia's list of lists of lists
As someone else in this thread mentioned, the page has a link to itself in the L section, which means that we can't (and don't need to) go a level up. Like any good metalist, this list contains itself.
kwamenum86··on Pinterest knocked off by Samwer brothers
The idea is to get traction before the original company can. The idea has already been validated in one market and in theory introducing it to another market will work as well. When the original company is ready to expand to those other markets then they'll have to consider buying the clone. It can work for any type of company really.

kwamenum86··on TVs are all awful
"code to the standards and to hell with anyone who breaks them"

I think bug in this case just means that the software does not work as intended even though it follows the spec.

kwamenum86··on Dear Congress: It’s Not OK Not To Know How Search Engines Work, Either
"Bing: A Microsoft & Yahoo Production?"

This reminds me of mistakes I've seen semantic analysis engines make. I'm not totally sure if this is a triumph of computing or a failure of Congress.

kwamenum86··on Show HN: I Created the Inverse of Angry Birds

kwamenum86··on Show HN: My Zappos/Twilio hackathon entry
Cool. But I think most people would be able to guess who sent the text based on who is likely to be buying shoes for them.
kwamenum86··on Billions worth of value created by tech startups with designer co-founders?
Instagram's Mike Krieger actually wrote quite a bit of code at Meebo (he is listed solely as UX). But point taken.
kwamenum86··on Mint.com turns 404 ad page into date ad for developer
Watch from tokyoflash.com. Nice.
kwamenum86··on Modern Web Applications are Here
Yes and no. If you have a templating solution that works well on the client and server then this shouldn't add much complexity. Rendering the initial view on the server has the added advantage of supporting javascript-disabled clients too.

I muddled my point by mentioning Twitter - it was very nearly a non sequitur. They're supporting two paradigms but not because they want to. My understanding is that they don't have a single solution that works equally well on the client and server so they are using two different solutions.
