kvakerok··on Fable and the end of the free lunch
But how would that be different if she wrecked it following some other online recipe?
kvakerok··on I set a trap for a book-marketing scammer (2025)
Most of the people live in the world they invented, where they are the protagonist, naturally young girls want to talk to the protagonist, even when he's 70. You'd have to dismantle their whole worldview to disabuse them of the protagonist idea, but by 70 it's often too far gone and requires facing a million mistakes they have conveniently swept under the rug with the fairytale they've told themselves.
kvakerok··on Claude Opus 5
And common sense.
kvakerok··on Canada plans 'nuclear renaissance' with up to 10 reactors built by 2040
We can't generate power out of thin air and the coal/natural gas powerplants got shut down what do you propose?
kvakerok··on Canada plans 'nuclear renaissance' with up to 10 reactors built by 2040
The idea is great, the timeline is super unrealistic. We'll see those reactors in 2070 the earliest, more likely in 2080.
kvakerok··on I want everything local – Building my offline AI workspace
What is even a point of having a self hosted gpt5 equivalent that's not into petabytes of knowledge?
kvakerok··on Uber Just Reinvented the Bus Again
My city is several years into on-demand bus routes. It's a clusterfck to say the least.
kvakerok··on The time bomb in the tax code that's fueling mass tech layoffs
And there I was wondering why R&D was getting moved to Canada.
kvakerok··on Software-Defined Radio for Engineers (2018) [pdf]
Are you piping to influx db through ignition?
kvakerok··on Teslas monitor everything – including you [video] from WIRED
Jailbreak your Tesla
kvakerok··on Microsoft is killing Skype
Pre Microsoft Skype was malware-grade good. I still remember sysadmins imploding in impotent rage as it near effortlessly evaded their firewalling attempts.
kvakerok··on Teslas monitor everything – including you [video] from WIRED
In your car you have an expectation of privacy. Public transport is by definition a public space and thus has no expectation of privacy. Whole different ruleset applies. Anyone can monitor you on a bus. Without your consent too.
kvakerok··on Kafka at the low end: how bad can it get?
Coincidentally another SCADA module we made was handling bi-directional RabbitMQ comms. Not everyone is a one-trick pony :)
kvakerok··on Elon Musk Says He'll 'Fix' Community Notes on X After It Disagreed with Him
Nah, power forces you to operate in a different paradigm as does absolute power to an absolute degree. It's a known psychological factor, called "professional deformation" or even "occupational psychosis".
kvakerok··on Why can't we remember our lives as babies or toddlers?
I remember everything. Eidetic memory. Things before vision developed are obviously blurry or fully dark from before birth. What do you want to know?
kvakerok··on Elon Musk Says He'll 'Fix' Community Notes on X After It Disagreed with Him
"Absolute power corrupts absolutely."
kvakerok··on The most underreported story in AI is that scaling has failed to produce AGI
Now we're back to Chinese room debacle
kvakerok··on Kafka at the low end: how bad can it get?
Yep
kvakerok··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
You can absolutely give read only access in COBOL systems. That's just lazy administration and IT security on a shoestring budget.
kvakerok··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
Doesn't feel like it's growing to be honest.
kvakerok··on Egg prices are soaring. Are backyard chickens the answer?
"We can't build a bigger coop - Joey's going into soup."
kvakerok··on The most underreported story in AI is that scaling has failed to produce AGI
> You’re still anthropomorphizing what these models are doing.

Didn't we build them to imitate humans? They're anthropomorphic by definition.

kvakerok··on Kafka at the low end: how bad can it get?
You haven't seen the worst of it. We had to implement a whole kafka module for a SCADA system because Target already had unrelated kafka infrastructure. Instead of REST API or anything else sane (which was available), ultra low volume messaging is now done by JSON objects wrapped in kafka. Peak incompetence.
kvakerok··on Aluminum batteries outlive lithium-ion with a pinch of salt
Came here to ask about energy density, but it seems the article answered it without answering it.
kvakerok··on Homemade AI Drone Software Finds People When Search and Rescue Teams Can't
The same could be said about many people.
kvakerok··on A dishwasher can make or break a restaurant (2017)
Hungry people tend to not care at all who smiles for show and who actually cares, as long as the food is served. Just my 2 cents, but I get where you're coming from.
kvakerok··on Ask HN: How can I find something worthwhile to do?
Lookup "Steal my ideas". There are people all over the place sharing interesting to implement ideas. Most of us don't have enough time in the day to implement them all. Enjoy!
kvakerok··on Show HN: Kaskade – A text user interface for Kafka
Kafka is a stream processor. If you want a messaging queue, use something like RabbitMQ.
kvakerok··on Show HN: Kaskade – A text user interface for Kafka
If you have to manually delete data from topics, you are doing Kafka wrong. The whole point of it is high speed data throughput, so that something automated does it for you downstream.
kvakerok··on Show HN: Kaskade – A text user interface for Kafka
I'm not even going to ask why. Just start following the repo...
