ktosobcy··on JetBrains reported a net financial loss first time in its tracked history
While the revenue is up so is the cost... and looking at what they've been doing I'd argue they are just burning money on questionable investments.

"Hey! Look! We grew to power by making perfect, powerful development IDE! Let's get a bunch DeZiGnErS on board to dumb it down and piss off everyone"

Yes, I HATE their new UIs (we are on the second take where we had NewUI and now it's Islands)... ClassicUI has almost 1m downloads because it makes the UI _sane_ and while I renewed my subscription for AllPack this year I've done it griting my teath... will see next year if I'll stick…

ktosobcy··on Mistral Large 4
Awesome!

All things considered I'm more inclained to pay for EU-based AI in the end (supporting local company and most likely being more aligned with EU regulations…)

ktosobcy··on America.gov
Just mildly annoyed with almost annything comming from "THEUSA"
ktosobcy··on America.gov
Other languages do have it ("estadosunidos", "estadounidense").

Just like "Usanians" like to appropriate the name the rest of the world should to the same and start using "Usania" which is way more adequate…

ktosobcy··on America.gov
"Usania" and "Usanians" - seems fitting...
ktosobcy··on America.gov
"america" name appropriation is getting mildly annoying...

For a while now I've been promoting "Usania" and "Usanians" - seems fitting...

ktosobcy··on Ask HN: Alternatives to GitHub
Each time I end up on SourceHut I'm immediatelly put of… it's probably fine but the UI (for me) is just difficult to work with…
ktosobcy··on Ask HN: Alternatives to GitHub
I miss something like GitHub but - hosted in the EU - without "FOSS only" limitation like codeberg.

I know I can self-host forgejo but would be nice to have something like forge.eu (even paid!)

The data of almost 19 million Polish citizens has been leaked in an “unprecedented" cybersecurity incident in which online patient records were targeted, the country's digital affairs minister has said. The information was stored on the MyDr platform, which is one of Poland's largest providers of confidential electronic patient records and is used by doctors, clinics and medical practices."

(it's roughtly 50% of Poland population…)

ktosobcy··on Microsoft Edge is about to lock out older ad blockers, just like Chrome did
> it's hard to swallow pill but Chromium is popular for a reason

yes, google pushing hard "download real browser" for years on their main page didn't have anything to do with it… oh the benevolent monopolies doing what's best in user interest! /s

ktosobcy··on Microsoft Edge is about to lock out older ad blockers, just like Chrome did
<surprised pikachu> time for everyone using Chromium-based crap xD
ktosobcy··on Qwen3.8-Max: A New Bar for Coding and Cowork
Yeah… but last 5 years happened and UE is now in the overdrive to decouple from Usania :D
ktosobcy··on Qwen3.8-Max: A New Bar for Coding and Cowork
Yeah, but the world is not limited to the US so who cares…
ktosobcy··on The End of an Era
What annoys me the most about current day and age is PROLIFERATION of everything…

Not so long ago the author / creator would have to be very skillfull and prolific to write-and-write-and-write… nowaways I fee like I (we?) are drowning in more and more content…

I'd take back substance over volume :/

ktosobcy··on JEP 401: Value Objects (Preview) merged to OpenJDK master
You shouldn't be. I do like Java a lot, and recent changes (and speed of those) just makes it more and more better.

And I appreciate and I'm under huge awe to the amount of though put into the evolution -- instead of just cramming every new shiny thing they ponder it a lot to arrive at the most sensible option while trying their best to maintain backward compatibility -- kudos!

ktosobcy··on Self-hosting Kimi K3: 20% more hardware cost, 20% better task resolution
Recently I started playing with LM Studio and local models and found out that `gemma-4-26b-a4b` is suprisingly capable. I don't need elaborate akin to "create complete app to do X" or "refactor the whole codebase of bazzilion of LOC" but rather "how to go about doing thing X" or for language study (explaining nuances of phrasal verbs or subtelties of vocabulary in other languagues) and darn -- the results are rather good (to the point that I use it mostly nowadays)
ktosobcy··on Donate to GrapheneOS
That's the thing - I do prefer microG approach (or spoofing it altogether).

However, ideally - we should strive to have a generic interface (for location and push) to which (privacy preserving) implementations could be provided (akin microG) instead of saying everything is dandy and just propping up Play Services more "because there is nothing wrong by having to install them and we sandbox it"… meh…

ktosobcy··on Our position on open-weights models
Fuck hypocrites with "Usania good" attitude… ffs xD
ktosobcy··on Show HN: Scala Tutorials – interactive Scala 3 lessons in the browser
Why?

Too convoluted, doesn't care about compatibility at all, absurdly slow build system and obnoxious "community"?

ktosobcy··on Europe's Ultra-Rich Could Fund a Substantial Part of the EU's Budget
Can we stop parrotic absurdly stupid "unelected bureaucrats" mantra? EU and it's bodies is not more "unelected" than in any other government body -- in the UK people don't vote for the PM, members of Lords or civil servants ("unelected burocrats managing money")… same goes for most of other countries…
ktosobcy··on Europe's Ultra-Rich Could Fund a Substantial Part of the EU's Budget
In general more integrated EU with easier flow of capital and easier investments…

ktosobcy··on Europe's Ultra-Rich Could Fund a Substantial Part of the EU's Budget
EU needs more integration ("federalisation") as internal borders amount to something like 40% tarrifs… :/

ktosobcy··on Removing React.js from the codebase and adapting Htmx for UI interactivity (2023)
To paraphrase: "I think HTMX is a great fit for <majority of websites on the internet> save for a few that want to be an _APP_"… :)
ktosobcy··on Decathlon Germany adds Wero payment option to decathlon.de website
There are similar payment options across the EU. There is Bizum in Spain which works in similar way (and also offers phone-to-phone transfers).

There is EMP association (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Mobile_Payment_System...) which both BLIK and Bizum and bunch of others (I'd say majority of Europe) are members of that are already working on integration and Spain and Italy already work.

https://www.corporate.sibs.com/europa-the-future-of-payments...

Basically with Wero on decathlon.de the DACH is discoveryng local-digital-payments and are excited about something that the rest of Europe enjoyed for a long while ;)

ktosobcy··on Kill The Cookie Banner
Comission wanted that, Google lobbied hard to NOT have automatic sigal… go figure…
ktosobcy··on Kill The Cookie Banner
Uhm…

Would be lovely and would happen if it weren't for… wait for it… Google and whole effed up ad-busines:

F*ck google and other BigTech…

ktosobcy··on Corporate America Has Suddenly Decided to Stop Blowing Money on AI
I'd say no more than in Usanian models?
ktosobcy··on Future euro banknote design proposals
Current (bridges connecting) is very nice IMHO. I would change the dimensions maybe (I hate that the bills are taller than wider).

From the proposal I like birds way more - no issue with national associations and "birds cross borders beyond nations".

ktosobcy··on Future euro banknote design proposals
> Curie is Polish-French. Callas is internationally beloved and Greek.

Erm... by this logic either: "Currie is French" or "Callas is American"

Also: you meant "Skłodowska"? :P

You see the issues here? ;)
