ktallett··on Show HN: Mochi Invaders – Like Space Invaders but for Practicing Japanese Kana
It looks decent. A project like this is always a great way to learn how to do something. May I suggest as your knowledge increases you could potentially build sentences in furigana across the lines as new ways to learn Japanese further.

The goalposts should focus on being able to make a coherent statement using papers on a subject with sources. At this point it can't do that for any remotely cutting edge topic. This is just a distraction.

Considering these LLM utilise the entirety of the internet, there will be no unique problems that come up in the oLympiad. Even across the course of a degree, you will have likely been exposed to 95% of the various ways to write problems. As you say, retrieval is really the only skill here. There is likely no reasoning.

In that regards I would agree but that to me suggests that prior hype was unbased though.

You mean as in the previous years questions will have been used to train it? Yes, they are the same questions and due to them limited format on math questions, there are repeats so LLMs should fundamentally be able to recognise a structure and similarities and use that.

ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
Speed limits aren't required by nature, we happen to have built machines that are deadly and need control.
ktallett··on The year of peak might and magic
The story still holds up really well. Plus if you can't deal with the classic graphics there is StarCraft remastered.
ktallett··on Debcraft – Easiest way to modify and build Debian packages
Not something I've used but I do enjoy these programs that make things that can be a pain in the ass slightly easier.

There is also a great remake with a new engine, that of course requires the original assets.

I would agree in general for the base model macbook airs, as you go up the range the value just isn't there anymore when in comparison. I still do not see the battery life for my use case. There are too many other flaws for me (repairibility, quality of software decreasing massively, issues with screen quality in everyway bar colour/vibrancy) though that means I won't choose them anymore as much as I adored Apple for many years and am still a fan boy over classic macs.

I have. I had one for over 20 years. They are not what they were.
ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
The law in this case is against the point of humans. We are an explorative species that should not be constricted by luck of birthplace.
ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
No person is illegal as borders are arbitrary, enforced by other humans, not by any real natural divide, hence why they change.

Let's not bring religion into it, but I am sure you are aware of leaders who were voted in that were/are unsuccessful or made horrific decisions or choices. Israel right now have leaders that wish to wipe out another group of people entirely, it doesn't make them right because they won the popular vote.
ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
The popular vote doesn't mean right.
ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
Medical information is not government data that can just be shared.
ktallett··on Why is AI so slow to spread?
Ah! So that's a tooth!
ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
No government agency should get access to any private data without the appropriate protocols in place. Even more so considering the many issues surrounding ICE and their actions already, this will not improve things. Let alone the moral problem of trying to deport people which have been used by American companies for cheap labour to build the nation they want and supposedly are. Now of course that is ignoring the ludicrous view that undocumented migrants are the key issue, as opposed to so many other home made issues in the US, such as unfair wealth disparity, and a lack of fundamental basic rights for citizens.
ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
You may be on the wrong side here.
ktallett··on ICE is getting unprecedented access to Medicaid data
What bastards?! How dare they help keep those migrants that are essential for many key jobs in the US healthy?!

HP have a better webcam (Higher res and better colours), Z Book and Framework have the same keyboard basically, the software is no where near as good (far more locked down), considering M series have been out for 5 and many had very speedy failures I doubt 8-10 years especially for the base models on low ram. Multicore scores (so for any form of simulation or parallel computing) work M series are not even in the conversation in comparison with the latest AMD and Intel. Another key issue is due to architecture change, their reusability once they become unusable in their current form means its Asahi or nothing.

Repairability is non existant, a battery and some ports is not anything to shout about.

I have used Macs since the early 90's when they were repairable, pretty much consistently and I still have to on occassion but they have dropped the ball on every aspect. From the late 90's repairability and innovation have gone downhill. The late 00's to the early 10's brought it back and ever since then bar the odd thing that is pretty but less practical, just look at the touch bar and the removal of ports.

I have had Thinkpads, ZBooks, and other laptops such as Lets Note easily as long as a macbook and yes some of the pretty may be missing but that isn't what I focus on in devices.

It has some benefits, the battery life (you aren't getting 15 hours from it doing a normal workload), keyboard, cameras, are pretty similar to many other laptops. Linux exists so a pale imitation isn't needed, its not light, and there are plenty of as good if not better back up options.

What about the overall quality of the software and hardware being rather poor? No repair-ability, a limited OS now, low quality glass covering the screens, lack of long term support for many laptops now?

ktallett··on Why is AI so slow to spread?
The issue is AI doesn't state it doesn't know. It tries to come up with a credible sounding answer no matter the topic like that insufferable guy at a party. You need to know when you don't know something to be trustworthy, currently you still need to evaluate the accuracy of what is offered.
ktallett··on Why is AI so slow to spread?
Ok.....What does he use it for? Without context, that's a nothing statement.
ktallett··on Why is AI so slow to spread?
Tech only spreads when the average user can get use with their average interactions. Having to tailor prompts to be so specific is a flaw. Even then it is at times absolutely useless. AI to be genuinely useful needs to accept when it doesn't know and state as such rather than creating waffle. Just as in life, I don't know is far more intelligent sometimes, than just making something up.
ktallett··on Why is AI so slow to spread?
Shhhhhh! Are you saying that not every app or platform needs to have AI shoehorned in for the purposes of appealing to non-technical funders who are lured by any buzzword?
ktallett··on Apple bans entire dev account, no reason given
Fairphone and a Framework is just fine. What exactly do you do that suggests there is no alternative? I can see absolutely nothing Apple does that no other laptop can.
