ktallett··on How to save a life without knowing CPR
Seems tricky to both give CPR and hold up their legs at the same time.
ktallett··on How to save a life without knowing CPR
Yes, I can help.

Why am I holding their legs in the air?

Well I read it on hacker news once.

Hacker news, oh it collates techy/stem blog posts and articles.

I don't know if the author of this post had any medical credentials.

I can see why it doesn't look like they knew what they were writing about.

ktallett··on How to save a life without knowing CPR
Yeah I doubt you would look like someone who could be trusted with saving a life if you did this in an emergency scenario
ktallett··on How to save a life without knowing CPR
Lay them down and hold their legs up.
ktallett··on UK Government Body Kept Files on People Criticizing Prevent Program
Well I am on the list as are millions. The prevent program was and only ever will be a citizen tracking program in disguise. Won't somebody think of the children or think of the what the "terrorists" may do. (Terrorists being anyone who disagrees with us).

Your wife and kids are holding you back. Your clients are your family now.
ktallett··on Four CHI '26 papers I wish I wrote
So many papers from conferences like these fascinate me. Of course you get those who are clearly doing research that was easier to get funding for but then you get questions like these where people obviously have some interesting viewpoints on the world.

Computing within limits is another conference that I'm often reading all the papers for whilst being in awe.

ktallett··on As A.I. makes law firms more efficient, clients ask: 'Where's my discount?'
I'm sure many law companies have a trillion spare to invest in data centres. I don't think anyone would be upset if AI broke the standard charges for lawyer fees.
ktallett··on Advice to a Beginning Graduate Student (2001)
The key is to make the most of the opportunity and don't take poor treatment as the norm. It is always unacceptable. Plus at some point you will potentially be the world's most knowledgeable person on your very niche area, appreciate that and run with it.
ktallett··on Silicon Valley 'sex assault list' with 'over 100' names circulated
Considering the Epstein connections, why is it a shock that it is still happening? People in that position often feel they can do anything they want, including sexual assault. The fact so few end up being investigated is disgusting.
ktallett··on The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art (2024)
> All of them will. It can save nearly 100% of costs for art production. Nobody can afford not to use it, unless they aren’t developing the game to make a profit.

This is not correct. Your profit doesn't have to be relative to what another company makes. It would only be affected if games passed the savings on to the customers. You make more profit if you do use it potentially but it doesn't mean you don't make profit if you choose to go the traditional route.

ktallett··on What happened to the Snowden archive
Had he stayed in the US whatever could he have done? The US are not known for their ability to accept wrongdoing.
ktallett··on What happened to the Snowden archive
Why does it post the Intercept in a bad light?
ktallett··on I tried the new Fairphone, a phone designed to be repaired
The issue I found was that you couldn't replace every single part of the phone, and also they never did the actual upgrade components that was promised. Instead just making more phones which in my view goes against the point.
ktallett··on Japan's book scene is moving from bookstores to libraries
Japan already has a range of cafes that let you read books, manga, or listen to music
ktallett··on Why So Many AI Researchers Think the Machines Could Kill Everyone
The easy way would simply be to air gap them. The controls should be on site only.
ktallett··on Why So Many AI Researchers Think the Machines Could Kill Everyone
Is it because they will get funding to stop the risk even if the risk never existed in the first place to any significant extent? Are most of these wild declarations not exclusively for market value and funding?
ktallett··on I fixed a tractor using John Deere's self-repair service. Farmers aren't sold
The EU are the reason most companies in the US have an actual way to repair anything. US companies in general have not changed a thing based on the US law.
ktallett··on Bomb Sense (2021)
It is interesting reading about all these game mechanics that I am aware of through sight and play but never considered the thought behind it. Twinkle Star Sprites is up there in my favourite games of all time, never usually a fan of that style of game, but the graphics and the complexity but simplicity got me hooked. A classic arcade style scoring where you have to try and do better each time always clicks.
ktallett··on Apple Watch Ultra 4
I completely agree with you, I was just trying to avoid being attacked by a certain group. I assume it's the processor as it isn't designed specifically for battery life etc.
ktallett··on All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it
I am not a Tao hater but also not a fanboy but this is spot on! He is right, I don't love AI in many states and feel it is used for pointless task, however the beauty of that helping hand supporting you do tasks that you have no idea how to do is the magic in it. As a child we all asked questions regularly of what if we did this instead of this, why do we do things this way, why not try something else. Work and adult life gets us stuck in a rut, so anything that gets us out of a rut is welcome.
ktallett··on All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it
To do the first one perhaps, although how many have really explored locally in full. To have fun is all dependent on your view on life and have human to human experiences can be had any time you step outside the door. Just talk to people and be friendly.
ktallett··on Apple Watch Ultra 4
Blows them away? I haven't seen anything that is not just one or two features that other watches don't have. But all the.features require the watch to be on.

Data accuracy most certainly is not in relation to GPS which often cuts distances on the Apple Watch.

ktallett··on Apple Watch Ultra 4
Two days is so poor for a ultra watch. The fact it won't last a full weekend let alone any significant hike just means it doesn't fit the market it is aiming at.
ktallett··on iPhone Duo
That is a huge market that they are ignoring.
ktallett··on iPhone Duo
I never trust the later with Apple. Too often have they failed to deliver. Why release this without the obvious benefit?
ktallett··on iPhone Duo
As a reading device that is great, but as a phone that is wide.
ktallett··on Flights cancelled at UK airports due to ATC issue
You won't get compensation for ATC issues, but you will be reimbursed.
ktallett··on Caltech Mathathon – first hackathon ever devoted to research level mathematics
Also true. HN is not the peak of human intelligence.
ktallett··on Nathan Fielder's Elizabeth Holmes Doc Met with Shock and Awe at Secret Screening
SBF. Lance Armstrong. Both in a similar vein and both as fascinating.
