kss238··on Plane drops to 928 feet after autopilot set to 0 altitude
That's what the parent says, and what the BBC inplies, but not what the UK report says. The pilot reacted at 1300 ft. It took another few seconds of falling to recover at which point they were at 928 ft.
kss238··on Plane drops to 928 feet after autopilot set to 0 altitude
> Luckily, after descending 500ft in about 18 seconds, audible warnings in the cockpit alerted the crew that things were going awry and they very quickly remedied the situation.

If you read the UK Government report that is not what happened. The plane was at 1500 ft when it began to descend. At 1300 ft the warning sounds activated and the pilot reacted but it took another 300 ft of descent before the pilot was able to fully recover from the descent.

Poor reporting from the BBC.

kss238··on Amazon says wage hike ‘more than compensates’ for loss of bonuses
The bonuses were incentivized. It was based on monthly attendance. The stock grant program was not though. You might be confusing them.
kss238··on Rice University Says Middle-Class And Low-Income Students Won't Have To Pay
You're wrong and misunderstanding the website. That is only the minimum they guarantee for each income bracket. Someone earning $65,001 will have substantially the same finaid package as someone making $65,000. Go try out the npc and see for yourself.
kss238··on Georgia says switching back to all-paper voting is logistically impossible
Voter ID disenfranchises the poor, otherwise I don't think anyone would have an issue with voter id requirements.

kss238··on How Israel, in Dark of Night, Torched Its Way to Iran’s Nuclear Secrets
The article says Iran was hiding and saving these documents so that when the 15 year ban on nuclear material expired, Iran could startup it's nuclear program from where it left off.

A conspiracy requires that two or more people agree to commit a crime. How would this apply to Ice?
kss238··on Amazon Workers Facing Firing Can Appeal to a Jury of Their Co-Workers
That's not true in California and likely in many other states.

>[A]n employer may terminate its employees at will, for any or no reason ... the employer may act peremptorily, arbitrarily, or inconsistently, without providing specific protections such as prior warning, fair procedures, objective evaluation, or preferential reassignment ... The mere existence of an employment relationship affords no expectation, protectible [sic] by law, that employment will continue, or will end only on certain conditions, unless the parties have actually adopted such terms.

kss238··on Pfizer blocks its drugs from being used in lethal injections in prisons (2016)
I think the commenter means it shouldn't be an excuse for state governments.

Although I didn't see a specific excuse state governments are using to hide their suppliers, just that the state governments are being "secretive".

kss238··on Walmart will begin offering to subsidize college tuition for its U.S. workers
It's only for 3 university's and two programs at those schools. I doubt it'll have any effect.
kss238··on So Your Startup Received the Nightmare GDPR Letter
Classic slippery slope. If any one complains of a single law being overly broad it obviously means they want every law repealed, right?!?

What exactly do these publishers do that causes them to charge so much? Aren't they just hosting some pdfs and keeping editors on staff to look over the papers?

kss238··on Keyless Cars and Their Carbon Monoxide Toll
How is beeping every five minutes any different than what cars do currently? Cars with push to start are already required to beep when the key is taken out of the car.

If you add a special switch, that increases costs. Why should car buyers bear extra expenses for less than 100 deaths a year?

Should we require special bathtub sensors that beep when they detects still water because hundreds of people drown in bathtubs each year?

kss238··on Keyless Cars and Their Carbon Monoxide Toll
Have you never turned your car on before you left to heat up the passenger compartment?

kss238··on A new set of vulnerabilities affecting users of PGP and S/MIME
This is what I thought as well. The EFF warning was specifically against decrypting messages so I think it's unlikely to be a protocol vulnerability. But my experience with software exploits is limited to reading publications about exploits.
kss238··on Math problems that challenge the world
Joe was arguing that the restatement of the CH was incorrect, not that CH Has/hasn't been solved.

And on your point, Z=L is not a widely accepted axiom. Per wiki,

>Although the axiom of constructibility does resolve many set-theoretic questions, it is not typically accepted as an axiom for set theory in the same way as the ZFC axioms.

kss238··on Alphabet's Median Pay Nears $200k
I don't think companies are required to and this statement from the WSj article:

seems to imply that it is not.

kss238··on Autonomous braking: 'The most significant development since the safety belt'
If the cost of installing airbags could instead be used to install some other safety feature, say aeb in all vehicles, and if that feature saved more lives than airbags do, then it would be better to not have airbags.
