kristofferR··on Improving GPT‑5.6 Sol in ChatGPT, expanding GPT‑5.6 Luna access for free users
90+% of queries are probably so common/evergreen that, if a cheaper model made all the different language varients and ways of asking the question into one query, they could be cached quite effectively.
kristofferR··on AI financial advice is surprisingly good, especially if you ask right questions
I built my own financial dashboard and used Enable Banking Accounts API, it's free to use for such limited usage, and they support most European banks at least.

And Vibepollo solves many issues Apollo has
kristofferR··on Moonshine: Lets you stream games from your PC to any device running Moonlight
Vibepollo is damn great, best solution on Windows by far. Totally painless and damn smooth, don't diss it because of its vibecoding.
kristofferR··on Is this the end of the once-mighty GoPro?
That's fine for flat videos, but 360 videos usually need processing before they're usable. I'm unsure if there are other software options that handle Insta360 360 videos well.
kristofferR··on Kimi K3, and what we can still learn from the pelican benchmark
The Chinese just saved the world economy by draining their absurdly enormous oil storage reserves nobody knew they had, wouldn't surprise me if they had lots of hidden compute too.
kristofferR··on Librepods: AirPods liberated
Microphonics = cable noise, like when the cable drags against your zipper.
kristofferR··on Librepods: AirPods liberated
Not to mention the microphonics
kristofferR··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
What a party pooper the current US government is... I'm not excited right now at all, while normally a new GPT release would be so much fun to test out.
kristofferR··on Anthropic says Alibaba illicitly extracted Claude AI model capabilities
Why would they use Max 5x instead of Max 20x, which is cheaper relatively speaking?
kristofferR··on Is AI ruining our skills? Early results are in – and they're not good
It's hard, but I try to verify it as best as possible by doing multiple independent runs, often one with GPT-5.5 and one with Opus, and then verify that they agree. When I'm as certain as possible I release it and rely on feedback when something doesn't work properly.
kristofferR··on Is AI ruining our skills? Early results are in – and they're not good
Yeah, this describes me perfectly. I can't really program, but I'm now building a bunch of different projects and submitting PRs that people seem to appreciate.

https://github.com/kristofferR

One of them, a Home Assistant integration for controlling adjustable beds, would be borderline impossible to do well manually - I've vibe-reverse engineered the Bluetooth protocols of more than a 100 Android apps.

kristofferR··on Hyundai buys Boston Dynamics
Hyundai EVs are great though, the Hyundai Ionic 5N is probably the best EV there is (for car enthusiasts).
kristofferR··on Claude Fable 5: mid-tier results on coding tasks
This seems like the exact project you should try out Codex Security for. It catches a lot of stuff:

kristofferR··on LLMs are eroding my software engineering career and I don't know what to do
Running a couple of "scan for potential refactors"/"any duplicated code" prompt threads is already a long way there.
kristofferR··on SimCity 3k in 4k (2025)
claude --dangerously-skip-permissions -p "get this all installed https://www.thran.uk/writ/hdid/2025/12/simcity-3k-in-4k.html"
kristofferR··on AI is just unauthorised plagiarism at a bigger scale
I'd rather have AI slop appear on the top of HN than regurgitated old low effort thoughts like this.

There's absolutely nothing new or interesting here that hasn't already been said better by a thousand different random HN commenters.

kristofferR··on New York, California pension leaders oppose 'extreme' SpaceX control structure
That's what I'm saying, they pretend that the only way to fix SS is to cut services/replace it, because actually fixing it without cuts would involve removing the lobbyhole/cap that makes their rate close to zero.
kristofferR··on New York, California pension leaders oppose 'extreme' SpaceX control structure
Not to mention that they always harp on it being supposedly unsustainable and insolvent, while deliberately not mentioning that it is solely because the social security is the most regressive tax, where the more you earn the lower your rate.

If it was a flat tax where everyone paid the same percentage of instead of a regressive tax where only working people pay the rate, then social security would be well funded.

Obviously they don’t want to pay the same tax rate as working people, so theyd rather get rid of social security instead.

kristofferR··on Louis Rossmann tells 3D printer maker Bambu Lab to 'Go (Bleep) yourself'
Found a clone here: https://github.com/unS0uL/OrcaSlicer-bambulab
kristofferR··on Hackers breach JDownloader's website to serve malware-laced downloads
What's new? Hasn't JDownloader already served malware with the default installer for years, you had to use specific adware-free installers to avoid it?

kristofferR··on The West forgot how to make things, now it’s forgetting how to code
Most software, other than Windows and macOS, seems to have gotten better more quickly lately.

Hard to quantify though, as most, other than the AI companies don't usually advertise their AI usage.

kristofferR··on Habitual coffee intake shapes the microbiome, modifies physiology and cognition
I didn't say 500ml, I said ~500ml. 500ml is quite large, but 400+ ain’t really that abnormal.
kristofferR··on Habitual coffee intake shapes the microbiome, modifies physiology and cognition
I'd say it reaches abnormal above 500ml, but there's nothing abnormal about mugs like this: https://www.ikea.com/no/en/p/faergklar-mug-light-pink-506048...

It seems people think 500ml is more liquid than it is due to how thin cans/bottles are comparatively.

kristofferR··on Habitual coffee intake shapes the microbiome, modifies physiology and cognition
Yeah, people think 400-500ml is a lot for some reason, but it’s not a abnormal coffee mug size at all. The Ember mug I have is around 430ml.
kristofferR··on Habitual coffee intake shapes the microbiome, modifies physiology and cognition
This study is Irish, so I think they likely use 170ml cups? That means a normal mug of ~500ml is 3 cups.

Perhaps they even use US coffee cup size, which is 118ml?

Honestly, using an unit of measurement that varies from 118ml to 250ml in a scientific paper brings the whole paper into question.

kristofferR··on 3.4M Solar Panels
People aren't sad about the US not winning the race, they are despairing about the US actively trying to lose.
kristofferR··on Tim Cook's Impeccable Timing
Eh, depends on what aspect of it. It's a very bad harness and is comically bad at tool calling, but as a Siri alternative and Youtube summarizer it's pretty good.

As a chatbot it's unusable due to its broken web interface.

kristofferR··on NSA is using Anthropic's Mythos despite blacklist
Not only that, but I feel there's a lot to validity of this meme from reddit: https://i.redd.it/jxfayl16q5wg1.jpeg .

Maybe not "completely out", but at least not having enough available capacity to release a model way bigger than Opus publicly.
