krimpenrik··on Kanboard: free and open source Kanban project management software
Got it synced over laptop, android phone and tablet with syncthing. Whith my home server as 'base' which also backup the vault itself
krimpenrik··on Updating my website from my iPad
I was yesterday researching options to use my tablet for upcoming extended trip and found that the Linux stuff Samsung had is sunsetted and couldn't find any alternative. Think I'll just bring a 13inch laptop.
krimpenrik··on Car thieves using tech disguised inside old Nokia phones and Bluetooth speakers
A hidden switch on the wire behind that fuse would be a lot more ergonomic, a thief would just replace the ignition fuse with any other in the panel, he doesn't need the radio to be on :)
krimpenrik··on Dutch journalist who writes critically on China targeted in intimidation scheme
Long line of fuckups without correction/ownership by the currently seated
krimpenrik··on EU Commission doesn't understand what's written in its own chat control bill
It has come to my attention as well that the more higher educated people in my circles are more blind to the power grab that is happening by government here. Topics around housing, energy, immigration, covid, EU policy, nitrogen ect are blindly followed by whatever the authority is saying and without any desire to think for themselves.

It has come to the point where debating any of above Topics is impossible and gets you stamped as "crazy, outlier".

And on a lot of these topics, the messages from government that have been sent were plain wrong, but no corrections have been made, thus the cycle continues.

Where the more 'poor' people around me seem to think more for themselves and with common sense. Those are the people that wonder why the riots in Paris are nowhere to be found in our mainstream media (Netherlands).

I wonder why this is the case and if this is unique to me. One explanation could be that the wealthier group has more to lose when going 'out of favor'. Thoughts?

krimpenrik··on A Philosopher on Drugs
This is why quantity matters. All conversations around drugs (non addictive like shrooms, LSD) don't account for quantity.

It's like talking about alcohol and assuming you shoot 2 bottles of vodka in your throat.

I am happy the microdosing community is changing this somewhat.

krimpenrik··on Chemicals released during wildfires in Australia damaged the ozone layer
They definitely do controlled burning to remove organic fuel. 4 years ago i was working at a farm in Western Australia near Albany and the sterling range mountain range they did a controlled burn which got out of hand and we had to evacuate. Spend the next week's putting out fires that reignite.

Farmers also burn down crop fields to make seeding easier and is a risk to jump in other fields or neighboring woodlands.

My girlfriend there worked as a parc ranger / firefighter. It's a big topic, farmers in the outback have their own firetrucks and teams

krimpenrik··on FreeCAD User Book (2019)
Share the same experiences as here, don't care about the outdated UI, I spend a lot of time figuring out how to build my rather simpel model, but always had to relearn stuff to make modifications. Went over to onshape and works great for my use case (free version)
krimpenrik··on GoDaddy: Hackers stole source code, installed malware in multi-year breach
I am avoiding it for decades, and it is terrible.

Better alternatives

Namecheap, ovh, digitalocean, gandi, TransIP

krimpenrik··on GoDaddy: Hackers stole source code, installed malware in multi-year breach
Share the same experiences. When godaddy comes up I feel obligated to share. Avoid at all costs
krimpenrik··on DuckDB – An in-process SQL OLAP database management system
Then I think I used it wrong, happens often. Thank you for your work. I was/am new to duckdb and since it was listed in the docs I assumed it was something like SQL viewer
krimpenrik··on StarFighter 16 inch: 4K Coreboot/Ryzen Linux laptop
Apologies then! Still hope the slide n joy guys will get justice tho
krimpenrik··on StarFighter 16 inch: 4K Coreboot/Ryzen Linux laptop
I have a weird feeling these guys are the scammers of slide n joy, the dual screen addition to laptops where they siphoned off money of buys for years, started with a Kickstarter.

Really hope these guys get investigated. From Belgium or French they were.

krimpenrik··on DuckDB – An in-process SQL OLAP database management system
Recently tried the GUI tool for ducks, forgot what's it called, something like 'Tab' and was quite disappointed. I feel duckdb needs a good tool like sqliteviewer to really take off.
krimpenrik··on Show HN: Serverpod – The Missing Server for Flutter
How do this compares to the abandoned aquaduct dart backend?
krimpenrik··on Small SaaS banned by Cloudflare after 4 years of being paying customer
Also want to be kept updated on this issue since it touches some clients of mine
krimpenrik··on Bitwarden design flaw: Server side iterations
Just got word that one of my team members runner the python script to extract the seeds out of LastPass. Excited to leave LP and move to bitwarden. Like you said, a lot of small stuff at LP is the issue, unresponsive plugin sometimes, got a update and new UI last week, now the search in the chrome plugin isn't working on my end, really don't understand how you can write such shitty software for something so simpel (the UI part)
krimpenrik··on EU votes to address loot boxes, gold farming, and gaming addiction
But on the other end The Netherlands are providing new legislation to enable parties to enter the gambling industry. Albeit with restrictions they are literally making the impossible possible with his new move. Licenses for new online casinos have been handed out the last year.

To be honest, this really hurts my heart, i have several friends with gambling addictions and recently lived in Australia where the gambling industry have free reigns and seeing all the advertising and the fact that every bar has a gambling section is against what we should want as human species.

In Australia you'll see big casino ads next to government ads advertising help lines for gambling addictions.

krimpenrik··on Spreadsheet with compute-like functions: GET(), POST(), PARSE(), ASK_OpenAI()
Works beautifully for what i needed. Also domain specific Salesforce formulas. Makes my life 100 times easier. I'll become paying user for this alone.
krimpenrik··on What Is a Wildcard Person?
This is also me to the dot. I am also trailing ADHD pills to mitigate the bad organizatio part. I am 33, and i am looking forward in my agenda planning for a week or 2. Before this would be 2 hours.

I also feel that the wildcard person is like this because of some specific characteristics, like to never want to quitte before working etc, which comes with huge downsides, couple relationships on my end.

My saying is that I can fix anything if you give me enough time.

To all the wildcards, shield yourself from abuse by your employer.

krimpenrik··on US Government demands direct police access to European biometric data [pdf]
The US should f*ck off
krimpenrik··on Windows 95 went the extra mile to ensure compatibility of SimCity, other games
That is pretty wild, imagine that support in the current climate
krimpenrik··on I worked at LastPass as an engineer
I hope LastPass wil burn. What a shitty software, besides these Security notifications, which Geels like is the 3th or 4th this year. Their software sucks to use.

We work in Salesforce so lots of logins with login.sf.com. i have to always. 1 search credentials in plugin 2. Search credentials again to copy OTP.

Most my colleagues miss setting the seed of OTP correctly cause it feels like you are done when entering but you still have to save it at the bottom.

Lots of times it asks to overwrite (update) client X credentials with client Y

In our admin cobsole, half of the usernames are not visible, just white space, so when i Need changes i need to click around and find that setting page, which is poor UI but then gamle on every whitespace to give the right permissions to user X.

Moving to BW is high on my list for 6 months plus. But too busy, will make time to my now. Bye. Don't comment a lot but truly LP is one of the only pieces of software I really hate.

krimpenrik··on Ask HN: Good resource on writing web app with plain JavaScript/HTML/CSS?
Nodered perfect for backend also has frontend tools or combine it with plain html or htmx

Opensource had community libraries and selfhostable

krimpenrik··on Your Next Smart Home Device is a $30 Used Kindle
Too bad it is a screenshot instead of Fullscreen website, then you could do buttons as well
krimpenrik··on Writing down what I do in Obsidian
Like mentioned, the excalidraw plugin is a game changer
krimpenrik··on Writing down what I do in Obsidian
I used Joplin for some years, really stable and worked well. I used nextcloud with webdev to sync.

Switched over to obsidian couple months ago and am in love, such a great piece of software.

I love the excalidraw integration, game changer

krimpenrik··on Writing down what I do in Obsidian
I use obsidian with Synthing works like a charm sync it to my phone and laptop and to my server where it gets backed up
krimpenrik··on Ask HN: How did you learn to draw diagrams?
I like to use excalidraw and do the same in our Consultancy, al my colleagues try to endlessly explain complex situations and as they go i would draw it out and it makes things a lot more clear.

Excalidraw is especially useful because of the 'rougness' you dont have the tendency to line everything up perfectly.

That said i had the same question since i sometimes add too much detail in diagrams and would love to up my skills here.

Went with excalidraw pro recently for convenience but the free version lets you do everything the same export you will have to save locally.
