krautburglar··on John Carmack on the mistakes around Quake that ruined id software
Id was technical excellence paired with artistic blindness. As the machines progressed, the value of the technical excellence faded. What was left? A test case for OS & compiler development.
krautburglar··on Leaving Mozilla
> Don't mistake being corrected about the legality

Never wrote that it is illegal. Wrote that I would like to see them all perp walked.

> What are you doing that will productively combat capitalism?

I rendered my energies to honest businesses instead of antitrust insurance policies LARPing as charities. Doesn't matter what the economic system is when the public and its agents abandon morality. Mitchell Baker will still be Mitchell Baker.

krautburglar··on Leaving Mozilla
Corporations get up to so many rotten things, most of which are entirely legal, but shouldn't be. Mozilla Corporation thanks you for the free ball-washing & PR work. If you reach out to their non-profit parent, you may even be able to deduct this on your taxes.
krautburglar··on Leaving Mozilla
Literal who has left the company that provides Google's antitrust insurance policy. That Mozilla still manages to swing "non-profit" status as they do this is outrageous.

I would like to see Mozilla's entire board leave Mozilla... in a PERP WALK.

krautburglar··on The Kaiser and a "Mediocre Man" Theory of History
Any story that rests on the disaster that was Wilhelm II, but does not make a single reference to the “Eulenberg Affair” (i.e. elite closetgay club), is an utter waste of time.

The elites in the gayclub had many ties — personal and/or blood — to Britain, and pushed Wilhelm toward moderation in his foreign policy. Once the scandal hit the papers, gayclub dissolved, leaving (forcing, even) Wilhelm II entirely to the counsel of his generals.

By “forcing,” I mean the fellow elites in gayclub were widely known to hold pro-Britain sentiments, so Wilhelm was somewhat forced into a 180 to not go down with them in the court of public opinion.

In some small way, WWI was a “beard.”

krautburglar··on Access to frontier AI will soon be limited by economic and security constraints
Altman and Amodei are both a) nasty pieces of work, b) bona fide jews of matrilineal descent, & c) treat damn near everyone as "outsiders" (i.e. goyim), so use of the word goyim is a component of the truth. You are criticizing and policing the truth. In the short-run, truth can be buried. In the long-run, it always wins. So keep shoveling. We can wait.
krautburglar··on Ratty – A terminal emulator with inline 3D graphics
Exactly this. They are slowly turning the terminal into a web browser, just for attention. We already have web browsers. If you want something at the midpoint, make it, but please don’t call it a terminal & destroy one of the few non-trojan-horse standards that we have left.
krautburglar··on Hardware Attestation as Monopoly Enabler
Exactly. The weapon is available to all, but only parasites like FAANG can afford to hire the best brains who know how to wield it. As Apple uses it to take a 30% cut of everything on their device, the “democratized” PGP features in mom’s mail client gather dust.
krautburglar··on How to turn anything into a router
Laptop/desktop wattage varies with processor and peripheral load. Unless you are pushing 10gbit and leaving the screen on 24x7, even an old box will be mostly in an idle state, with actual draw well below 30W.

Even if that were not the case, paying an extra $2.50 / mo to not do ghetto fabulous bs with rpi and vlans seems like money well spent to me.

krautburglar··on How to turn anything into a router
If you know your platform, it is set-it-and-forget-it. I use CLI OpenBSD as a router, and it has been far less trouble than any of the ready-made GUI ones I have ever used.

The ready-mades are brutally under-powered, have snowflake UIs that have to be re-learned on each revision, and have very short firmware update windows, so have to be replaced (and the UI re-learned) every few years. While with my OpenBSD thing, it's just `sysupgrade` then `pkg_add -u` -- for almost a decade now.

But yeah, if you're just copy-pasting without understanding, OPNSense is far better.

krautburglar··on How to turn anything into a router
Everything outside of power equipment -- like HVAC, refrigerator, laundry dryer, etc -- is a rounding error on most power bills.
krautburglar··on Overestimation of microplastics potentially caused by scientists' gloves
I have made an inconvenient statement, and you have asked an inconvenient question, so off to the gallows with us.

Yo dang, I hope YC is paying you enough to end up on St. Peter's naughty list, because that is where you are all headed.

krautburglar··on The Many Roots of Our Suffering: Reflections on Robert Trivers (1943–2026)
The Epstein “academics” were all running an h-index pumping citation ring — to sell narratives that would be lucrative for various industries and interests. Chomsky, Ito, Trivers, Pinker… they will all be forgotten, and the world will be better for it.

it is very simple—i will compare male to female with female to male

with greater molecular control over development we are increasingly capable of producing novel phenotypes—
more feminine men, by blocking testosterone receptors (or castration) and, at the same time, increasing estrogen
production—the one bocks male features, the second encourages female features

more masculine women—heavy testosterone dosage—incredible external effects, heavily bearded men, you
would never guess they had a female bone in their body

first kind—male -> female is 4 times more frequent than female -> male

the first is attractive—he is a woman with a cock, so that if your fantasy is to suck a man's dick, otherwise you
are completely heterosexual, it would be much nicer if the rest of the organism is female, then you get the best of
  both worlds

so many transsexual women are very attractive and easily make money which in turn they assert promotes their
prostitution since they have to pay hefty fees for injections every week, but they are sexually happy,--once you
have reached manhood even castration does not prevent the sensation of organism

contrast the poor female to male versions, they are unhappy and lonely—they are men with mum-pums, the
  worst of both worlds

if you like smelly masculine men, you want that hard cock that comes with the show—you do not want one of
nature's more complex and variable structures, the pum-pum—that is an acquired tasted—and not with a man

there are 100's of female Trans videos and websites, i have never seen a male one

BTW we are now pushing the intervention earlier--so you notice your 3-year old son has trans tendencies, so
now you intervene with hormones—i would be frightened to do that—but who knows ?
krautburglar··on The American Healthcare Conundrum
Not to hold the commercial insurers' balls here, but if I were a doctor, I'd probably demand more from them. The patient age distribution is not uniform. Most patients are going to be old. If medicare gives me peanuts, I just have to deal with it, for if I don't accept whatever crumbs medicare sends my way, I no longer have a practice. If a private insurer tries to throw me peanuts -- especially when that insurer's customers only make up a percent or two of my practice -- I can easily tell them where to shove those peanuts, so they had better pay well.
krautburglar··on Hyperlinks in terminal emulators
I hate this too, but I would distinguish between the terminal and the shell. For most of us on Linux or OSX, they might as well be one and the same, but formally speaking, they are still separate. There are many places where VT terms are deployed -- especially in embedded -- where there is no shell, and thus no security issue.
krautburglar··on Hyperlinks in terminal emulators
That's the point. The hardware stopped at a certain point, which has gifted us with a de-facto standard. I would prefer if our "woo look at me" attention-whore graffiti artists would actually create something positive and original instead of riding someone else's gift into oblivion for attention.
krautburglar··on Hyperlinks in terminal emulators
This is barbarianism. This is Babel. Too many dunces trying to turn VT220 into Google Chrome. The long-term effect: the ruination of terminals. You can already see it. Try to run newer terminal apps on classic hardware terminals. Most of the time, you just get garbage, since nobody seems to bother to even check termcap anymore. They just directly shit out whatever bleeding-edge escapes that vte/iterm2/ghostty or other barbarianisms support as of the last five minutes.

If you want something half-way between VT220 and Google Chrome, please be original and make something new, rather than wiping your butt on a standard that is still somewhat functioning.

krautburglar··on System76 on Age Verification Laws
This is not a “free speech” issue. This is an assault upon the citizenry. This is the rich and the powerful trying to put everyone’s ass on the plantation. Some want it to extract wealth from you (thievery). Others want it to control you (slavery). They are begging for the guillotines.
krautburglar··on System76 on Age Verification Laws
The prostitutes pushing for this do not deserve words. They deserve ridicule, public humiliation, and worse. The computer is a tool. Whoever would encumber it is an obvious shill for the corporations (google/apple/microsoft) who would like to attach an identity (i.e. tolls and controls) to actions prior generations could do freely and without surcharge. It is a modern-day enclosure movement. Its proponents should be juicily spat upon.
krautburglar··on We Will Not Be Divided
You have 1) stolen everybody's shit and put it behind a paywall, 2) cornered the hardware market in some RICO-worthy offensive that has priced one of the few affordable pasttimes for young people out of reach, 3) changed your climate story (lie) on a dime, and started putting the horrible power-guzzling data centers on any strip of land within spitting distance of a power plant. I hope you all go out of business, and I hope it happens French Revolution style.

Of course they were going to use it for military purposes you spiritual abortions, and there is nothing your keyboard-soft hands can do about it.

> done something in 2004, no? When all the Baltic states were added into NATO

Russians weren't happy about that either, but they were too weak to do anything other than complain. Now they are strong enough to retaliate. George Kennan was absolutely gutted by how stupid that expansion was[1].

> Stop trying to pretend that Ukrainians have no agency and are just a cardboard cutout with Uncle Sam standing behind it.

90%+ of mankind does what the signals (radio/newspaper/television/movies/music/textbooks/social media) tell them to do. Money controls the signals. Our Epstein class controls the money (global reserve currency). At least it used to. Ukrainians get the "fell for it" award. Only way to survive this onslaught is to block the outside signals the way the Iranians or the Chinese do. Europeans are slow, because they are only beginning to figure this out.

Their war would have been over before it began if it weren't for the funds and equipment we have furnished.

krautburglar··on Russia's economy has entered the death zone
> Pogroms were before USSR

I know. Beside the point. The point is that 20th c. Russia/USSR's human capital had been obliterated.

> Russia already got damn nukes.

Old technology. Suicide. West has better weapons, like twitter (arab spring), autonomous drones, and whatever sonic/microwave mystery we used in Venezuela. Russia is behind.

> Looted as in being sent food aid?

Looted as in having state bureaucrats sell national assets to western corporations for pennies on the dollar, then buying soccer clubs in UK with their ill-gotten gains, as Russia's peasants starve and their birth rate collapses.

> The problem is damn invading neighborhood country.

NATO wants to put missiles on their doorstep. How would any other country respond? We would have glassed Cuba if Khrushchev hadn't taken his missiles back. US state department had been plotting the Zelensky revolution / Russia war since the Obama administration.

I am not a tankie. I am disgusted. We are skirting WWIII to prop-up the boomer pension ponzi scheme. We started shit in Ukraine (yes, WE started it) because the Russians were selling oil to Europe, diminishing the petrodollar in the process. It's also why we've kicked people's shit in from Afghanistan to Syria to Libya to Ukraine. Doesn't matter who you voted for, (D) or (R), the child molester uniparty was going to start that war regardless.

krautburglar··on Russia's economy has entered the death zone
USSR vs 2026 Russia is apples and oranges.

USSR: kicked their educated jews out (twice -- pogroms & doctors plot), kicked most of their educated gentiles out in 1917, used up their remaining human capital as cannon fodder against hitler. Everything USSR had was gifted from the west to keep the west's military-industrial grift running (see Antony Sutton's works for details). They were a boogeyman used by western elites to extract wealth from their own taxcattle.

Modern Russia is a gas station and strip mine with decent relations to the south and the east. Not a phenomenal position, but a hell of a lot better than what they had. Building up their defense sector so that they don't get internationally looted again (i.e. the 90s) is the right move for them, and an unfortunate reality for us.

PARC. Where Papert & Kay ran experiments on children for the military. All to answer the question: how fast can we get an above-average peasant trained on our symbol-processing apparati (radars, dashboards, etc). The answer: kinda fast. If you would think about it for a moment, you won't even need this history lesson to see that GUI is mostly a weapon. Facebook: weapon. Twitter: weapon. Excel: mostly a weapon. Photoshop: mostly a weapon. Web browser: weapon...

krautburglar··on Noam Chomsky's wife responds to Epstein controversy

krautburglar··on Noam Chomsky's wife responds to Epstein controversy
From the emails I've read, Chomsky prematurely handed a big chunk of his net worth over to his children. With the new wife and the move, Noam was burning through cash at considerable speed. His kids started tightening the purse. Jeffrey Epstein came in as a financial fairy godmother to wrangle the purse strings back from Noam's kids. Given that Epstein and Maxwell were working hard for Israel, and Chomsky is a famous critic of Israeli policy, having Noam owe him one must have been a bit of a coup. Not that it would silence him, but it would at least get Chomsky to moderate his tone.

If you deal with the same people over time -- even highly intelligent ones -- you will notice the stark decline in intelligence in the later years. I didn't even like Chomsky when he had his marbles, but it's hard to get worked-up over "Old guy gets mixed-up with the wrong people and does dumb shit."

But even in 2016, even with his diminished faculties, Chomsky was not just a news-hound, but a news BEAST. This, "oh, we didn't know until 2019" is a massive load of shit.

The only HERO I've come across in these e-mails is Norman Finkelstein.
