kolev··on Inside the sad, expensive failure of Google+
Google+ did not make big mistakes. For example, their mobile experience is much better. People just didn't want to leave the social network most of their friends are on already. Same with Ello. People are lazy. But Google+ pressed Facebook to innovate. We won, Google lost.
kolev··on A Renewal Reminder
I just wonder how did these mistake happen - poor programming or, most likely, manually sending emails?
kolev··on Important Security Announcement from PagerDuty
I will, but what's interesting is that I keep getting bugged by PagerDuty sales people and today, just before I read this, I got an email with their "improved" pricing and "improved" service! Had to vent out, sorry!
kolev··on Important Security Announcement from PagerDuty
Just because you're stuck with PagerDuty and has not say to change vendors, it doesn't mean you have to downvote me!
kolev··on Important Security Announcement from PagerDuty
I'm happy with OpsGenie [0] - not so expensive, fully-featured, and now - safer compared to the overpriced PagerDuty. OpsGenie first implemented push notifications while PagerDuty was relying on people not knowing the competitive landscape and had a web-based Android app with SMS for years. OpsGenie innovates now and PagerDuty follows. Research and don't go with the flow!

kolev··on Yahoo reveals Livetext, its new silent video chat app
Yahoo! Arrow [0]?

Not available on any of my Android devices.

kolev··on Major Flaw in Android Phones Would Let Hackers in with Just a Text
Google did not update Hangouts or Messenger though. How hard was for them to release a hotfix that disables the automatic download?!
kolev··on Major Flaw in Android Phones Would Let Hackers in with Just a Text
It's known as "picture messaging".
kolev··on Amazon Aurora Now Available
They still update it, just very slowly, but I wasn't aware of this other patent troll. I guess Terraform and Fugue are in danger as well.
kolev··on Amazon Aurora Now Available
That's pretty much his job and he's very passionate about it.
kolev··on Amazon Aurora Now Available
I'm highly disappointed by Amazon for recommending CloudFormation, but always neglecting to maintain it. Aurora has been in preview for a while, adding support for it in advance would be a great thing and coordinate the launches. As a person who fell in the trap to use the "best practice", I'm always months if not years behind in my CloudFormation stack as it takes months for CloudFormation engineers to add, let's say, a single attribute.

So, based on my experience, give it a quarter before you see it in CloudFormation! I keep bugging Jeff Barr, but it seems that he doesn't have much control over the process.

The whole development process at Amazon seems broken. Everything is developed in a silo and once GA, then other teams start integrating it, unless the two products cannot operate in isolation.

P.S. I keep checking this URL [0] several times a day and I curse several times a day, because it almost never changes!

kolev··on Flickr Pro Is Back, and It's Selling Quality Over Quantity
Thanks, but no thanks! They've ruined an amazing product since the acquisition. I've been paying all the time for storage, then I was forced to stop paying, and now I'm not going back to chaos and lack of attention!
kolev··on LinkedIn quietly removes option to export contacts
Time to abandon ship!
kolev··on Announcing TypeScript 1.5
Shouldn't be a comment, but a part of the language.
kolev··on Announcing TypeScript 1.5
Yeah, that's why I liked the new release although Microsoft recommends the comment ugliness still for better IDE support, which is nonsensical.
kolev··on Announcing TypeScript 1.5
I really hate this part:

    ///<reference>
I hope JSX is native in 1.6, too.
kolev··on Dear Google Mail Team
Gmail spam filter is definitely not working well for me. Obvious spam is considered legit and emails from senders that I constantly report as "not spam" still get into the Junk Mail folder. Outlook.com's spam filter is doing a way better job for me!
kolev··on SlackerChat – Simple chat with custom rooms
The best way to learn is to share the code and let other people comment on it, suggest improvements, etc.
kolev··on Leveraging AWS API Gateway and Lambda to Build a Slack Bot
The OP forgets to mention Modulus.io they use as well.
kolev··on SlackerChat – Simple chat with custom rooms
No source, no thank you. There are plenty of proprietary alternatives already!

P.S. Outside of the above, pretty decent early version.

kolev··on Fish shell 2.2
Fish is a deviant. There are thousands of *nix projects out there, many with a much more desperate need for a web UI, but they simply don't do it, because they know that they shouldn't cross that line.
kolev··on Fish shell 2.2

kolev··on iTerm2 Shell Integration
It somehow breaks my virtualenv prompt...
kolev··on Fish shell 2.2
You guys keep beating around the bush and keep downvoting me! Is the web server built-in? Yes, it is. Why do you keep finding excuses and why do you keep downvoting the voice of reasons - a shell should not have a web server in its codebase, period. Put this into an optional package and make everybody happy!
kolev··on Our Deadliest Problem? Not Terrorism
It's obvious that I was interested in this, but couldn't do anything with it outside of getting frustrated.
kolev··on Fish shell 2.2
I was being sarcastic, but I don't really like the idea of my shell having a built-in web server even if it's just a few lines of code - feels like a Rube Goldberg machine. You can do nice TUIs in the console as well, even with graphics, but it's not necessary in this case. Configuration files are just fine for nearly 100% of the people who use Fish.
kolev··on Fish shell 2.2
It just makes Fish feel desktopy, a toy shell, and not something serious. Ask the vim crowd that even in 2015 uses vim in the terminal, even on desktops. You just don't do the things Fish does, it's that simple. Make the web server an addon and keep everybody happy!
kolev··on Fish shell 2.2
Via configuration, but it's bundled into the code. I'd rather have the web server as an optional install.
kolev··on Our Deadliest Problem? Not Terrorism
This site is about discovering and rating content and how I can rate and promote something I cannot read?!
kolev··on Amazon interviewed me about my Amazon fake reviews detection app
Agreed! Downvoting ruins everything. Not sure what HN gains from it other than leaving a bitter taste in the mouth after somebody dares to post unpopular opinions!
