Now I get to brag around the office that Steve Yegge rage-posted because of me ^_^

I am really sorry if I caused some trouble, but I was just interpreting things as i heard them, he really did say "... quitting that JOB..."

I would like to say that I totally agree with Steve. But unlike him I can't afford to quit my "job", but what I can afford is to setup my PS3 and my desktop machines to work on folding@home and World Community Grid whenever they are idle.

What we all can do is to donate our CPU cycles to folding@home or WCG projects. How many of you have your PS3 siting idle? Do you know that you have folding@home built in your PS3, you just need to tour it on :)

When i think about it - one language wont do it. When you learn html/CSS - you will know how browser renders elements on the page, nothing else. If you learn javascript - you wont know anything about server side. If you learn PHP - it will complement your knowledge of html/css nicely, but you still need to know some javascript.

So my vote goes to PHP + javascript (+node.js) + HTML + CSS

edit: i recommend Ubuntu for development, or if you own a Mac, just install xampp and enjoy.

Good luck designing one of those cssmania.com like sites (when your client ask you to) without Photoshop.

In 98% of my time i never use them (Java/IDEA IDE).

I use profiler a lot lately though (Java Visual VM).
