It's not their data. It's ours, as the users. Craigslist doesn't own anything I upload to them.
The reason PadMapper exists is because Craigslist refuses to not suck.
Here's hoping that that means my Sparrow app isn't going anywhere...
This is one of the most important points.
For the average American HackerNews reader, life is radically different from the rest of America. I am given opportunities, networks, connections and chances that I wouldn't be able to get this easily anywhere else in the World.
The genius of America seems to come from a few very key categories that exist to this day. Silicon Valley is one of them; Hollywood or Wall Street might be others.
But outside that, our average is a rather poor showing compared to a lot of other countries around the world that more collectively seem to take care of their people.
The problem, in my humble opinion, always stems from ignorance. As a culture, we're just not as aware or respectful as we should be. Other countries know more about the World than we do. That leads to more open-ness and respect.
I've always been a fan of the WakeMate. Best of luck moving forward.
The Most Patriotic Thing You Can Do: Bust your ass and get rich. Make a boatload of money. Pay your taxes.
So I certainly get the sentiment behind the article, but this is too much.
I cringed at the very end, with the blatant attacks on Singapore that made this piece seem more xenophobic than I could tolerate.
What an unbelievably unprofessional piece. I realize this is a personal blog, but I still wouldn't expect to see it on zdnet.
The fact of the matter is - whether you agree with his decision or not - Eduardo is a Brazilian who lives in Singapore, and has lived in the United States.
Who are we to decide where he belongs? Is he paying taxes to Brazil? Should he?
Maybe that's why you thought that.
Sorry no remote. No H1B.
Well-funded early stage startup focusing on simplifying online selling, especially selling across multiple platforms.
Looking for designers to make our product beautiful and useable. Looking for engineers to work on some really hard problems in payments, fraud, and creating a multi-platform network.
Small team, great culture, flat organization, meaningful equity, strong compensation, and a huge vision we can all rally behind. A perfect way to learn about building a startup from the ground up before building your own.

Kudos.
Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft and many others who are "getting profit from doing anything useful" sue each other every other month.
Terrific product. There's a lot of features that I'd love to have, but this is a much-need space.
A social-network for work. i.e. a social network that people will actually pay to use.
Who has perfected that? $142m is really the start here. Looking forward to their future.

Young strong venture-backed startup seeking first employee/s. Expect market salaries and equity.
Kout is an eCommerce version of Square that allows you to sell across multiple mediums (social networks, blogs, emails, mobile, offline, etc without any of the hassles. Comes complete with payments.
Creating the simplest way to sell online. Disrupting an industry (eCommerce and - in a way - payments) that hasn't been innovated in ten years.
Backed heavily by some of the best VCs in the valley. Email me directly (hany@kout.me); mention you're from HN.
Care to elaborate?
College is important. I plan on going back before I die. You can get involved with startups, work with them and learn from them, without leaving college. Our world is all about networking, and just like I had an amazing network in SV from my dorm room in Ohio, so can you in Eastern Europe.
I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I've made my decision and I feel convinced it was the right one. I just think some people make it too hastily. Feel free to ping me if you have any questions.
Interestingly, the solo founder and ceo Keith Teare is credited on his Crunchbase page with being a co-founder of TechCrunch
From what I’ve gathered so far, the company is building a ‘new type of social network’ that lives on your smartphone and the cloud and can be accessed from your desktop browser, rather than the other way around (e.g. what Facebook does). Basically, it sounds like just.me wants to turn your phone into the post-PC centerpiece of your social graph, and not just a tool to gain access to it.

I have 'Close Friends' that I care a lot about, then I have classmates, contacts, work friends, etc. In that aspect, a bigger social network like Facebook (or Google+) is much better than a smaller more restrictive one.
The fact that wealth-builders, and innovative startup founders that seek to create new frontiers can't legally find a way of staying in this country is preposterous.
