In mean-time, email me if you have any questions? hany@ribbon.co
Unfortunately, yes.
I'm an Egyptian national myself, so I completely understand this concern and would love to add it very soon but given regulations, compliance and financial service hurdles, it will likely take a while.
Drop me an email and I'll tell you more. hany@ribbon.co
The data proves that the kinds of companies that need a great engineering talent pool and venture capital will tend to hail just a couple of locations.
I'm not saying there aren't exceptions. There are. But in an endeavor where the failure risk is so high in the most optimal of circumstances, I wouldn't add another risk factor like location into the mix.
Just my thoughts.
Experience is awful. It is thought that BLE might be better tech that leads to a better experience.
But there are some counter examples. At least from your list, I believe Asana is doing well. I don't remember there being as much hype with them, however.
That's why our P2P payments are 100% free for debit cards and bank transfer!
How is Square valued at $4b and BrainTree can't sell for $1b?
Take payments (my industry) for example. There are countless startups that are working on something that enhances or optimizes whatever pre-existing solution we have today. That's thinking by analogy. It's faster and easier but you're constrained by the limits of whatever you're comparing to.
Then there's thinking from first principles. From scratch. Take what Dwolla is trying to build for example. "If we were to build the Visa or Mastercard network today, what would it look like?"
A lot of the new innovative systems in payments, like Bitcoins, started by thinking of first principles rather than analogy.

Ribbon is a payments company that is built on a simple premise: let's keep the buyer where they already are and make the transaction occur inside of whatever platform they're on. Going off of that, we have built integrated in-stream payments inside of Facebook (http://f.cl.ly/items/3X080L3U1e2I2Q2O3d2u/screeny-for-fb.png), Twitter, YouTube, and an embedded option to bring it back to your own website (https://www.ribbon.co/button). You can think of us as an eCommerce multi-platform version of Square. We must be well-designed on every front, from the UI/UX to the backend payments infrastructure. Well-funded and at the beginning of a very big & fun problem. https://www.ribbon.co

Email me directly & mention you're from HN: hany@ribbon.co
With this, an engineer at a startup has a worse deal?
"We’ve had discussions with Twitter in the past, and are eager to find a way to work together."
There's a couple of movie makers currently selling 2-4 GB files.
EDIT: HN won't let me reply any more to the thread. Email me directly and we can chat hany@ribbon.co
Payouts occur every two weeks, not every month. This is one of the changes we've announced today.
Many people do awful things in the past. Young people (Jody was 16 here?) can be stupid & foolish. Hard to attribute that to the rest of his life with such a simple, "fuck the dude."

The transactions occur in-stream. Make a Ribbon product, get the link, copy/paste into your Facebook, and you'll see what I'm saying.
Tell us what you think.
Looking to add to our team of five. Ribbon is building a frictionless payments and ecommerce platform that does the transaction wherever the buyer is. Imagine purchasing an item without leaving Facebook, or buying directly from within the Twitter stream, or through email. That's what we're building for consumers, businesses and developers in an elegant way with a huge focus on design. Looking for someone excited at the stage we're at: dealing with first customers, ramping up traction, figuring out new product direction and features - and also excited about the challenges we'll face, like making payments simplified for consumers and dealing with huge technical issues with fraud and building payments infrastructure.
We went through AngelPad in the fall and raised a big seed round from great investors. Awesome office in San Francisco, penthouse floor with views of twin peaks and the ballpark in soma.

Sometimes dropping out makes sense; other times it doesn't. It's based on that unique situation. Dropping out isn't a matter you can over generalize with blanket statement advice.
