klinskyc··on WeWork isn’t a tech company; it’s a soap opera
Our WeWork was so close to another WeWork that the WiFi networks interfered with each other, and caused the WiFi to drop out every hour or so. Took them a month to fix.
klinskyc··on Wework loses $5200/customer, lost $1.3B in H1/2019
The $5200 customer is somewhat meaningless, because WeWork customers spend a lot more with WeWork than Uber or Chewy custotmers do. Would be more interesting to see as a percentage.
klinskyc··on Bobby Bonilla's 25-Year Contract with The New York Mets (2011)
Fun fact -> They offered this because they were getting such good returns (greater than 8%) through Bernie Madoff, and figured they could just pay off the contract interest through that
klinskyc··on Stripe's API was down
We had a couple payments go through during the "downtime". Maybe "Severely elevated error rates" would be better?
klinskyc··on Stripe's API was down
Between Cloudflare, Google, and now Stripe, I feel like there's been a huge cluster of services that never go down, going down. Curious to see Stripe's post-mortem here
klinskyc··on Ask HN: Best Passive Income Method?
SaaS. If you're learning Python, I'd imagine it'd be tough to write an in-demand ebook, and games are more of a labor of love.

SaaS lets you leverage other skills and domain knowledge you already possess.

klinskyc··on In China, tattoos border on illegal – and they're his life's work
Ephemeral - https://www.ephemeraltattoos.com/ - is basically doing that
klinskyc··on Announcing unlimited free private repos
While understandable, this is sad to see. The amount of interesting and useful code that is currently available due to GitHub defaulting to public will likely be seriously negatively impacted by this.
klinskyc··on Early Decision
Early Decision !== Early Action. Early action is non-binding and is less popular in top-tier colleges. Early action is generally binding - https://professionals.collegeboard.org/guidance/applications...

There's also restricted early action, which restricts what schools you can apply to along side the REA school, but is non-binding

klinskyc··on Early Decision
When I read the title, I assumed it worked like college early decision, where admission is binding. This is not the case, so this sounds like a great thing for YC to be doing
klinskyc··on CEO Cost Amicus $500k
Was it normal in 2012 to not use a payroll company? This has become a non-issue due to companies like Gusto or Justworks.
klinskyc··on Programming Minecraft on the Raspberry Pi
This is fantastic. Minecraft is one of the big factors that made me want to learn Java (back when the game first came out), and indirectly spurred a lot of my own personal development. The easier they can make it, the better.
klinskyc··on Stripe Billing
How does Stripe auto-recovery compare to a service like Stunning? Does it make it redundant?
klinskyc··on Stephen Hawking has died
Aw man. I don't have anything profound, but I always smile when I read this XKCD - https://xkcd.com/799/
klinskyc··on Ask HN:Who else is getting Repository unavailable on all Bitbucket repositories?
They have updates on their status page, but down for me as well - https://status.bitbucket.org/
klinskyc··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (January 2018)

klinskyc··on Show HN: Servers.lol – Should Your EC2 Be a Lambda?
Would Lambda work for On-Prem at all?
klinskyc··on S3 was down
Seeing the "reduce your requests" error message on our end
klinskyc··on S3 was down
Thought I was going crazy. We're seeing 'Please reduce your request rate.' for a lot of our requests as well

klinskyc··on Stripe Sigma
As a current ChartMogul customer, 2 questions

1) Is it possible to easy display this data in graphs over time?

2) Can we record non-Stripe billing in it? (some customers will pay by check)

klinskyc··on Jeff Atwood on growing Discourse
Doesn't raising seed-funding stop you from being an "Indie Hacker"?

klinskyc··on Ask HN: What should I tell my cousin who wants to go to a “coding boot camp”?
On the flipside, there are more total people who want to do bootcamps. So there's definitely more noise, but also more good signal as well
klinskyc··on Yik Yak fires 30 of 50 employees
I have not used YikYak since they required me to add a phone number, it's so antithetical to their entire point that, in hindsight at least, their decision to de-anonymize it is unbelievable. Are any of the wave of anonymous social apps doing ok or well?
klinskyc··on Vellvm: Verifying the LLVM (2015)
Zdancewic's an amazing teacher and lecturer who I was lucky enough to have for an intro CIS course. Cool to see him on here
klinskyc··on Requests for Startups Refreshed
It's not going through YC, but Purple (https://getpurple.io) has done a good job, IMO, of having good coverage in a novel way (through facebook messages)
klinskyc··on What It Costs to Run Let's Encrypt
it's (8125k) 2 since there is 100% overhead
klinskyc··on Logo Pizza: Hot and ready logos for sale
99Designs has a money-back guarantee if you don't like any of the logos. Not sure how good they are about actually honoring it. You get a lot of crap and super-generic logos, but (in my experience at least), there are a few good ones
